About La Masseria

La Masseria Restaurant is inspired from ancient fortified farmhouses that in the Puglia Region of Italy are called “Masseria”. Executive Chef/Co-Owner, Pino Coladonato, grew up on a Farm in Puglia. He was forced to eat whatever was available but soon was tired of bean puree and decided to take matters into his own hands, creating new ways to use the same few ingredients. Now, with limitless ingredients to choose from, fava beans, chickpeas and lentils are still a core element in many of his entrees. Interior Designer Libby Langdon has created a warm, inviting dining atmosphere. Rustic and relaxed, with plenty of old world charm. Oversize iron sconces custom made from antique wrought iron gates punctuate the walls, and artful displays of antique farm tools mixed with various authentic Italian photographs all add to the farmhouse appeal. The 250-bottle wine list encompasses all regions of Italy with few of the best American and the rest of the world.

We stopped in for a bite after a show. At that late time there was only a few dinners and a few at the bar. The food was very good and server was attentive to our needs

Was looking for a nice Italian Restaurant after taking in a Broadway show. After checking out many Open Table reviews on places in the theater district, settled on La Masseria. It's a nice place and the service was excellent. Was impressed with the wine list as it ranged from reasonable cost per bottle to expensive. The food was very good but the place it pretty pricey even with us both having pasta entrees however I was not surprised as this was a three $$$ restaurant. Overall we liked it but probably would not go there again.

As always the chef did not disappoint. The food was magnificent as was the wine. My only opportunistic feedback would be for the server. We always go after the theater crowd leaves so we are not rushed. The main waiter (who said he was the newest member of staff, and never gave his name) seemed as if he was in a hurry. He even went so far as to tell us when we were ordering an appetizer that we should order our other food all together so it comes out faster. We told him we were not in a hurry, but he continued to ask “if we were done working” on our food. We consider enjoyment and by no means work. Of course the gentleman that was helping the waiter, was calm and helpful and it seemed could tell that we were looking for a more relaxed environment. Please note that in all the years we have been coming this is the first experience like this that we have had. We will continue to return. It still remains my favorite restaurant.

Officious maitre d’, but otherwise very nice people. Excellent waiter. Had made the reservation a month - 6 weeks before the date, so was frustrated by terrible table in front of the door (frigid NYC evening outside, and every time the door opened) and directly in the line of traffic — everyone in the restaurant would push by the table. Politely requested another table and maitre d’ said OK, 10 minutes. About 5 minutes later he said well, it could be half an hour. Very rude, very full of attitude, who needs this from a B-level restaurant?
After very unpleasant start to the meal, we had a terrific waiter and very tasty meals. Would recommend going sometime when they aren’t busy.

Food is consistently good here, but it is pricey. Some of it seems reasonable for what you get, but some seems over inflated. Our waiter seemed distracted and disinterested. That was a bit of a disappointment, as he told us generalities about the specials and both the soup and entree were not exactly what I expected. Both were good - just not what I would have been looking for. Risotto was plentiful - too much - would have preferred less at a cheaper price. Burrata app special was outstanding as was my friend’s salmon dish. Overall a good experience, I would just ask more questions next time. Enjoyed my experience at the West Palm Beach location more than this visit.

We have eaten here several times when we cone into NY for plays. The food has always met or exceeded expectations. The staff is attentive and when they know you have to leave by a certain time they have always had us out on time. You should leave at least 1 1/2 hours for the meal. We like the small restaurant atmosphere.

I was very pleased and will definitely return. The food was delicious and the staff very nice. It is more a place for a special occasion than a quick bite before or after theatre.

Don't be seated upstairs. I don't know if it was because we arrived at an off time but the restaurant should not use the seating in the mezzanine. The table was cramped, the space dingy and depressing, and the noise from the air handlers was deafening. I have eaten at this restaurant many time but now will think twice before revisiting.

We were immediately greeted at the door, that's good, but then shown past several open tables to a table next to a large, rather inebriated and loud group. The wine list was very good, on the expensive side. The food was very good, however one diner found their meal too salty. The pasta dishes were quite expensive ($22.50 for a simple pasta with tomato sauce). Overall very good, but would proably try my luck elsewhere next time.

We picked LaMesseria because it was close to our hotel. But we were so happy with every aspect of our meal that we all agreed it will be “our restaurant “ for our NYC trips. I had the pasta with cherry tomatoes and basil. Excellent. I also ordered the broccoli rabe as a side dish. It was perfect. Service was excellent. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed a relaxing lunch before a matinee and tried the Buffalo mozzarella special (good but cheese was a little cold), risotto of the day with lump crab, and a special with cheese tortellini with prosciutto. All were very good.
Not being familiar with the many Italian wines, we went with a bottle of the Italian style chardonnay and it was great and reasonably priced.
Service was excellent. It was a very cold day, so I had a cup a coffee upon arrival and mentioned I would probably have one at the end of the meal. What a nice surprise for the waitstaff to remember and, before I could ask, bring me a steaming cup of coffee. We did not have room for dessert - but definitely go back!

La Masseria is the very best restaurant around for pre-post theatre, but we’d go there anyway! It’s a very pretty space and the food is always excellent.

Would have given a much better review if it weren't for the service. My mom and I made a reservation and were seated in the loft area. As our server began telling us the specials whole we ate our bread and drank our wine, thge manager quickly came and interrupted him saying we needed to move. He actually then proceeded to gather our things to get us out of the table faster. Seeing the appalled look on my face, the couple next to us told our waiter to please put drink for us on their tab. Of course the restaurant did not apologize or offer us anything. We did have a nice evening at our new fable and enjoyed the food.
