La Marmotte Ratings and Reviews
Experience did not match the high price. The restaurant was very warm, and densely seated. Our waiter became surely when he did not like the way we ordered our wine. The duck seemed under cooked, and my son did not like his French onion soup. Would not recommend it.
New Years Eve dinner. The restaurant is considered to have a French cuisine profile......with a creative twist. The problem is the "creative" part. If you have culinary sofistication, please find an other place to spend your money. Overpriced and over hyped place. The service is great, but can't make up for the lack of food quality.
Charming cosy restaurant with character and outstanding staff. Food was excellent as was the choice of wine. Only restaurant in Telluride we were not rushed through and out the door in an hour. Highly recommended if you like great food, good wine, friendly attentive staff and time to enjoy the evening.
La Marmotte has been a family favorite for many years. I have never had a complaint and this Thanksgiving dinner was scrumptious and perfectly low key. There is something very comforting to walk in the door and see so many local faces both dining and working here. It is truly a special place!
After we were seated we sat a good bit, and, in fact, watched other tables seated after us get cocktails and apps ordered. Our waiter explained the menu and recommended the duck highly, which I ordered. We have no complaints about the waiter other than the duck recommendation - it looked like he was covering the whole floor. I ordered the duck cooked as the chef recommended - medium rare. But, this bird was rare and nearly inedible. By the time the waiter came back to check it was way too late, we had already eaten my partner's dish and were ready to get out. This is the 2nd highly rated Telluride restaurant (Allred's the other) that was pretty mediocre.
Wow the food here is great. Lots of creative locally sourced options, including small and large plates. We ordered lots of appetizers (local tomato and mozzarella, wild boar sausage, fish tacos, oysters) and big plates. Great wine and alcohol options too. Best meal I've had in Telluride.
La Marmote is quaint and cozy. Minimalist in decor which works with space and nice ambiance for acrobats tic dinner. I have dined there over the last 20 years and was very disappointed in this experience. Like others mention below our service was terrible and did not compare to the other diners. There were two of us and 3 other tables of diners. The food was mediocre. My appetizer was inedible yet staff never inquired why it was barely touched. There were few interactions It was very slow The manner in which the food was staged was illogical. It was almost as if orders were forgotten. Salad served after an entre. The most glaring faux pas was that we were inadvertently charged 13$ more for the entre than the menu price. We brought it to the waiter's attention and he apologized and adjusted it accordingly. I have dined there before and had better experiences. This was a huge disappointment. There are many fine dining options in Telluride and based on this experience , this is no longer one of them.
- Music is too much Xmas
- NO vegetarian entree on the menu. We need choices!
- no GF bread
- booked online. 6.30 or 8 pm were only options....but restaurant was near empty at 7pm
- male servants need shoes to fit black pants
- servants were 'distant' in serving
- my ordered desert never came
- wine was good
- overall way too much money for the value
We both felt our dishes were pretty bland and uninspired. I have been to La Marmotte a half-dozen times in the past, and this round we were just not wow'd at all. Our server was great, the wine was excellent, but the food was just really kinda blah...maybe it was just an off night, because it has almost always been really good.
We were very excited to come back to La Marmotte for dinner after having a wonderful lunch there last year. Unfortunately linch appears to be where this restaurant shines, dinner was a total let down. Disappointing especially since it was our anniversary.
Our waiter was extremely inattentive, which was impressive since we were the one of only 2 tables for most of our meal. He never once asked how we were doing, or attempted to engage in any conversation other than getting our order. He had plenty of time to chat with the other staff however.
The oysters were very good, and our salad was as well (the second one, the first one we got was incorrect but I wound up eating it since no one came by for 10 min). My New York Strip entree was bland and something I'd expect to cost $17 not $42. Part of this issue might be that I'm fairly certain someone forgot to put in our orders and then they got rushed. We waited 20 minutes (no one came by in this time, my wife's drink sat empty) after we were done with our salads, and I heard yelling about it coming from the kitchen.
Overall experience would have been fine for $50-75 meal, but for $200 I expected to leave wowed. Wound up getting out of there and heading elsewhere for desert.
Fantastic. So good the first night we made another reservation for the next night before we left. My wife and I absolutely loved it. We ordered completely different meals the second night and couldn't believe it was how really great it was. What a great place. Service was terrific as well.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Ate at the bar 2 different nights. Cozy ambiance. - only 6 seats at the bar. Great food. Braised food is great there. Lamb shank and Coq au vin - both awesome.` Hubby had steak frites one night and pork chop the other. Again, perfectly cooked, flavorful and great portion sizes.
Ambience is lovely. Our group of 7 sat outside. It was busy but we had an open table reservation and arrived on time. The service was just not good. First we asked what fish he would recommend and it was such a funny response. He said well they are really " moving" a lot of salmon. We ordered two nice bottles of wine which he delivered BUT DID NOT OPEN. They sat there until we had to ask several times to be opened. Later during the meal he poured wine into a diners water glass. WHOA that's a big mistake but he didn't really take it too seriously. We ordered another bottle but it wasn't comped. We've been coming to Telluride for 25 years and this has been a favorite but recently the service is less than optimal . And food also not as thoughtful,
It had been over 18 yrs since my last dinner at La Marmotte. The evening was lovely as was our fabulous server. She was pleasant and professional yet had a great smile and lovely conversation with us.
We were in Telluride for 5 days. We ate dinner at 4 separate restaurants. La Marmotte was by far the most fabulous in ambiance and food. Our bottle of Bordeaux was so yummy and brought back memories of our visit to France last Fall.
