La Mar by Gastón Acurio Ratings and Reviews
Everything here was fantastic. There was a small delay getting us seated as it was storming outside and outdoor tables were not available but we had some great cocktails at the bar and were seated by the time we finished. The bar/wait staff were very knowledgeable and informative. We had quite a few dietary restrictions that needed some attention but were easily accommodated. Everything from start to finish was delicious and prompt. We will dine here every time we visit Miami.
Felt like I was in a singles bar.
I had read other reviews about there being a noise problem here, but I wanted to take my wife to some place special with a waterfront view for our anniversary. Best thing I can say was that our waiter was extremely kind and professional.
Food was no different than any other Peruvian restaurant in town - just three times the price. Sent back an appetizer because it was too salty. Replaced it with a ceviche that was merely ok. Main course was also merely ok. No wow factor to it. Decided to get out of dodge and not risk dessert. Drove to Versailles Bakery for coffee and dessert.
Awesome experience!!! I will definitely recommend it to everybody I know. Service, food, parking, ambiance all is awesome!
The only issueis that I requested 15 days before to be seating next to the ocean unfortunately it was impossible even After confirming my rreservation before coming.
But that was an incredible experience that I forgot about it
Thank you La Mar!
My second time here. The appetizers alone are worth the visit, in particular the scallops, the grilled octopus and the tuna. They are spectacular and the reason why I came back.
The ambience is vibrant, but the noise and music level is quite high for a fine restaurant, more like a sports bar in terms of volume. We couldn’t reserve outside, which is too bad, but could have waited 30-45 minutes for a table outside. We chose not to.
The service this time was irregular, spotty, and the appetizers canne out within 5minutes and at least 25 minutes before we got our drinks. Even though we said to slow down, yet another appetizer we were sharing showed up shortly again. There doesn’t appear to be any coordination between the servers and this made for any annoying experience. It took almost 1/2 hr before we did get our drinks, and though very good, all the pacing was wrong.
One of the main course’s was fried snapper and was beautifully presented.. see photo below. It was OK, but heavy on the fried. The salmon dinner was good, though not as spectacular as expected. Dinner for 4, including a non drinking minor came to over 400$. For that price, it could have been a better experience.
After reading some of the reviews and menu, I was very disappointed by the appetizer and entree. In the crab caucas appetizer, the mashed potatoes greatly overwhelmed so you could not taste the crab. And it's never a good thing when you have to put salsa on top of octopus to intensify the flavor. Both dishes were failures. However, the wait service was superb and the sweet potato and pumpkin fritter dessert was delicious. Maybe it was the cuisine itself, but I did not find it enjoyable.
I don't like writing bad reviews but in this case I just have to.
We came in for dinner for my boyfriend's birthday. We were seated outside as requested. As soon as we sat down I realized that the music was terribly loud and completely out of place for this restaurant. We asked a waiter that passed by to let us sit at a different table, right by the water. He was supposed to relay our message to the hostess but that never happened. Within about 5 minutes she seated 2 other parties at the table we wanted and the next one. There was only 1 table left by the water and my bf went inside to get the hostess and gave her seat us at that table. She came over, took his menu off the table while completely ignoring me and not even saying a word and moved just that 1 menu to that new table. We had to take our water over there ourselves.
It took another 10 min or so for us to flag down a waiter so we could place our drinks order. The food was ok, nothing special.
After we had our bthday dessert and coffee we wanted to order an additional dessert but couldn't get the waiter to even glance in our direction.
We were rather shocked and pretty disappointed to receive such kind of service at a place like that. Some stuff didn't speak English, most paid no attention. Most likely will not visit again.
