About La Maquette
La Maquette is one of five Berkely Events venues located in Toronto. It is housed in a two-story, art-deco style building with a gorgeous solarium upstairs and a beautiful side patio that faces out to the city's famous sculpture garden. La Maquette is ideal for semi-private dinners, corporate events or weddings of any style and size.
The food at La Marquette is handled by Berkely Events and Catering. There are two different menus, depending on the event. One is a corporate menu that is ideal for business lunches and events, while the second is a social and wedding menu for parties of all kinds. Hors d'oeuvres are a key part of the menu, and there are a multitude to choose from. The most popular include lobster arancini, Philly cheese steak bites, parmesan meatball skewers and white prawns in a curry broth.

La Maquette Ratings and Reviews
We went thinking that we had booked for a 'Winterlicious' menu. But low and behold, however the web site advertised we missed the date so were confronted with the standard menu. We're not big drinkers so a glass of wine each, a shared starter and no desert ( the meal was very filling) and only the main course (which was very tasty and well prepared) for $100 + tip was excellent value. Lovely gentle live guitar music in the background. A relaxing night. Actually cheaper than had we gone for the Winterlicious menu!
I would avoid this place. Service was crummy. Our order was messed up, then not put through. We waited over an hour for our appetizers, followed by more than another hour for entrees. When the food arrived, it was basic banquet food... Just way overpriced. Way way way overpriced. We were expecting decadent French cuisine. We got banquet food. Ambiance was bad as well. Poorly cleaned and dated.
Toronto is an amazing city with so much to offer. This is a pass. No brainer.
Came back to La Maquette for Valentines Day 2016 after having a very enjoyable experience for Winterlicious in 2015. As always, the atmosphere was perfect as my fiancee and I had a seat in the very, very romantic solarium which had live music that night. The staff were very friendly, courteous and very enjoyable to chat with. The food was on another level. Great portions with excellent variety, plating, colours and flavours. What more can you ask for on a date night?
This restaurant has become a favourite of ours and we will be coming back. Consider us customers for life!
My husband and I enjoyed Valentine's Day Dinner here. They had a prix fix menu as well as a la carte. Everything was absolutely delicious. From my super refreshing and tasty salad to my perfectly cooked lamb and to top it all off the dessert was delectable. My server also took the extra steps to make sure my order was 100% correct and to my liking. Good work all around.
Food service was absolutely great during an evening during the winterlicious programme.
And the food did not disappoint either! I had walked by Maquette several times over the years but my first experience will not be my last . They had a talented guitarist near our table and the ambience was so good we closed up the restaurant, we just didn't want to leave.
On making a reservation, I inquired as to whether the full menu was offered and was reassured that it would be during winterlicious. However, when arriving we were only offered their limited winterlicious menu with three dishes to choose from. When asked if we could get the full menu, we were told that they are particularly busy right now so could not offer us the full menu. The kicker was that the table right next to us was offered the full menu and when we confronted our waitress about this, she said that they know family at the restaurant and that they ordered their meals yesterday (which makes no sense as they were choosing their meals right in front of us). Despite the limited menu, we stayed for the underwhelming meal consisting of an incredibly bland tasting risotto. The arugula salad to start consisted of just dressing, with no attempt made to add any other ingredients to the salad. Incredibly disappointing experience, and would not come back because of the poor food quality and the lack of transparency by the hostess, waitress, and manager.
Service was sub-par for the first time, likely due to the Winterlicious promotion on a busy Saturday night. We were never asked if we wanted another drink with our dinner, or coffee with (or after dessert), and we could never catch the waiter's eye to ask. It also took him a very long time to bring us the bill. It's a good thing we had no plans after dinner because the four of us were there for 2.5 hours. If you go during Winterlicious, order everything up front, if possible, and don't expect to be in and out in less than 2 hours for dinner. But it was still a good experience, as the food and ambiance were wonderful. I'll definitely go back.
I was told I would receive asparagus. The wait or came back and said thy didn't have any. He offered alternatives, including broccoli. When I got the food, I questioned why I didn't get the broccoli. His reply was that they were giving me Bok Choy. I told him that I had asked for broccoli. He rolled his eyes and left. I was served very hot undercooked broccoli.
We greatly enjoyed our meal, the taste was excellent and we enjoyed the atmosphere.
Looking forward to try your courtyard next summer.
The wedding at the second floor was louder than we liked it.
We found the portions a bit larger than we wanted to have, but could not stop ourselves from everything on our plate.
First of all, we were emailed saying that our reservation was cancelled. Then then called and said that they made a mistake, and the reservation was still OK. When we arrived, there was a wedding reception upstairs. If we had known that, we would never have shown up. We couldn't even hear ourselves speak. They never should have accepted a reservation when they were holding an event at the same time. We expected a nice romantic evening, and ended up having to shout to make ourselves heard.
We are big fans -- got married here and the food & service continue to be as top-notch as they were the day of our wedding. The restaurant was not very crowded, which makes me worried that others are missing out on this gem because it's not a "hot spot". Wish there were something else we could do to make sure La Maquette stays in business a long, long time.
Went here for summerlicious with my coworkers, and what an amazing experience. The staff were super nice, and the restaurant was very classy and beautiful. There were enough options in the menu for everybody and everything tasted great and presentation was on point. I would recommend this place to friends and family and will be returning again in the near future.
Everything from the food to the service was fantastic! We were seated by a window with a view of the courtyard. There was a man playing classical guitar pieces for the entire restaurant, it added such a great ambiance to our night. The server/bartender were amazing, and the owner was very welcoming and caring. She's owned the place for 33 years!
Try the Halibut or the Lobster!
Food was wonderful , rich French cuisine, the mains especially - lamb bourguignon and duck confit were lovely; deserts were somewhat lacking but it was a winterlicious lunch experience so it's understandable there's some corners cut; waiter forgot my pepper and my water even though there were only 4 tables of 2 in the whole reataurant. I definitely noticed service was better for the "older and well-off" patrons who ordered wine.
I always bring family here around Christmas time - staff are truly accommodating to older patrons, the service is usually excellent and the food well above average. Though much of the seating is on the second floor at this time of year, with only stairway access (quite dramatic but a challenge for those with mobility issues), the restaurant has always been able to deliver a ground floor table which is perfectly acceptable. We were challenged on our last visit to get our meals without having to rush somewhat to get to an event, despite having provided prior notice of our deadline and being assured we had more than adequate time to receive all three courses, but that was a `first' in several years of coming here. A great place to have a very good meal and a good conversation.
