They chose La Malinche, the name given to a historical figure who has been at the center of controversy for centuries. The noble Mexican woman was enslaved and given to Hernán Cortés, a Spanish conquistador. She became his interpreter and confidante. Their son was viewed as the first mestizo, a child of mixed blood.
Many Mexicans consider La Malinche or Doña Marina to have been a traitor, but today, she is also honored as the symbolic mother of the country’s mixed-race people.
At La Malinche, all of the starters, vegetables, meats and seafood are served as Spanish tapas, called botanas in Mexico.

The food is always fresh and exceptionally well prepared. Two in our party of 3 had never eaten there before and they raved about how good every dish was. Consistently perfect — fish and beef tacos, lamb chops, ceviche, asparagus wrapped in jam on, and the cicha la malinche!
Fun atmosphere, good food, and service was friendly and reasonably timely given how busy they were. Chorizo omelet was outstanding, other entrees were good, though we didn’t detect any sweet potato taste/color in the sweet potato pancakes.
Empanadas, shrimp & tilapia ceviche, and the scallops with corn salsa were among our favorites. Tried two of the several sangrias, both delicious as well.
Love everything about this place. The food is fantastic, the waiters accommodating, and the music pleasantly alternates between festive and relaxing. I had the Gambas a la Cazuela (Sautéed jumbo shrimp white wine and garlic and chili flake served with toasted bread) and it was fabulous. And so convenient if you are catching a film across the street at the AFI Silver Theatre.
Very good bottomless in SS. Can be a little slow when crowded but the food is always fresh. Price and value are unbeatable!
Nice variety of Spanish inspired Tapas; seafood, meat, vegetables, and deserts.
The food is really good, and so is the service. The only issue we had is that we were eating outside and it was too noisy, but it is not their fault. I strongly recommend this restaurant.
Good food. Good prices. We ate at an outside table and had to go in a couple times to find the waiter. Other than that, a pleasant experience.
Third time there and I cannot say one bad thing about this place! They NEVER disappoint!!
Excellent service, quaint environment. Tapas is top notch! And the jalapeño margarita definitely hit the spot. Will absolutely return. One of Silver Spring’s gems!
I’ve been here a bunch of times, food was great as always & I loved the outdoor dining area they were able to have.
This is a well kept treasure in Silver Spring. It has an intimate and casual atmosphere featuring delicious food and professional , friendly service. I had another great time.
Yummy and affordable food and drinks.
Great brunch! The food and drinks tasted good and were a good value. I will definitely come back soon. The service was great as well.
Seated and served very quickly. Our first tapas dish came out 27 minutes after placing order. Server did not come to check on us during our dining time and didn’t refill our water at any time during our dining. All the tapas dishes ordered tasted okay and the mango and hibiscus margaritas were good. Overall, each tapas dish took more than 15 minutes to come out and tasted just okay after ordering and service from waiter was subpar.
Awesome food, everything was really tasty. Great atmosphere and good service.
Food is delicious and service very good.
Great food. Can’t wait to return
Great food, vibes & service. You get plenty of bang for your buck. I’ll be back.
Absolutely delicious dinner on Tuesday nite 4/27. We started with Catalana appetizer then my husband had Pollo Acapulco and I had Steak Fajitas. Our meals were hot- mine was sizzling. I had sangria and my husband had a 🍹margarita. The portions were big and we required doggy bags. We were too full to try desserts. I highly recommend this restaurant. Ambiance was nice.
Nice to be back in person at one of our favorite neighborhood haunts!
Always reliable. Excellent tapas in Silver Spring.
Love the unlimited brunch! Great food and drinks
Incredible food and great drinks! Friendly service. I would love to return for brunch at La Malinche!
This is my favorite restaurant in Silver Spring! I've eaten outside here several times during the pandemic and ordered delivery several times too. Highly recommended.
Everything was delicious! The best guacamole we’ve had in. DMV! Chicken, shrimp, and chicken Fajita was fresh and grilled to perfection. Shrimp tacos were delicious. Gambas a la Cazuela was exquisite! We loved the sangrias too. Service was friendly, helpful, and timely. This was our first time, and servers were extremely helpful with recommendations. Excellent meal for reasonable prices. We will be back!
Always a great experience. Food is consistently good.
I had the fajitas and my wife had the octopus and the lamb. All were excellent.
The portions were pretty generous for tapas and we were vary happy with the food and the service.
Great place for Brunch, friends family fun environment
Great food and service! Definitely I'll recommend this place
Enjoyed everything at brunch. We did bottomless and it was definitely worth it. The bacon wrapped dates, empanadas and pancakes were amazing!!
The food was amazing! Salmon done to perfection and seasoned really well.
Place use to be 11-3pm but now there's a 2 hour time limit. Kind of caught me off guard
Excellent food and service at brunch. We reserved an outdoor table a month in advance, only to have truly dreadful weather on the day of our visit. They had been kind enough to save us a table inside so we could choose when we arrived. We all ordered the bottomless brunch and every item we chose was delicious. This brunch includes drinks, and they were not stingy with them at all. Drinks came fast, and were not watered down at all, as they often are in the "bottomless" situation. We tried all of their sangria flavors, the Cava was our favorite. Everything was prepared perfectly and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Will definitely return.
We ate at one of the outdoor tables. The food was good. The service was fine.
Food and sangria are always delicious....kind waitstaff.....all around great experience.
The brunch is an excellent experience. A number of native dishes to choose from along with bottomless mimosas, sangrias and bloody Mary’s. Outdoor seating is close to Colesville Road sidewall but tucked away enough to not be a distraction. The food is delicious. We’ll definitely be back.
Good food. Paella is worth the wait, not crunchy on the bottom, but very tasty and nice assortment of meat and seafood. Small place, but adequate seating and covered outdoor dining. Servers wear masks. Full bar. Enjoy!
