Always a great neighborhood stop for us. Their calamari steak is very good, highly recommend it.
They were shorted 2 staff on serving in the dining room due to COVID this evening. Although the service might extended in waiting for our meals, the quality of our food were wonderful, worth for the wait. It was packed on the Christmas Eve dinner.
Always delicious good and great service
We had a 5:30 dinner on a Wednesday with visiting friends who were apprehensive about dining out because of the Omicron spread. They were put at ease when they saw that La Lanterna has placed plexiglass between all booths and diners were comfortably spaced out.
My husband enjoyed the squid ink pasta so much on our last visit, he ordered it again, and I did too. It did not disappoint, the al dente pasta with a rich red sauce and a generous serving of prawns and clams was delicious. Our friends had the penne pasta with mushrooms, and loved it.
We ended our meal with a delicious bread pudding topped with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.
Great service and pacing allowed us to have a very relaxing and enjoyable meal.
Everything was fantastic. the food was fresh, delicious and the wait staff was right on top of it. I’ll definitely go there again. Easy reservation, romantic setting..7
Christmas Eve! Our favorite neighborhood restaurant did not disappoint! Dinner was wonderful
Staff there is always welcoming and accommodating. We love going there to celebrate special occasions.
Food was just ok. Need to have more clams in the clam chowder. Wanted to have the lamb shank on the daily special. But was told they ran out (at 7:15?). If no item, just don't show me the special menu. Switched to salmon and asked it to be made medium. But they still managed to overcook it. Hope next time the food is better.
Awesome food and great service!
Very enjoyable dinner. Food was very good. Noise level is low. Service was excellent.
Great food and service!
Nice variety of entree choices, good service, and nice booth space for more privacy.
Overall my experience was relatively good. I personally thought my dish was a tad too salty for my taste, but my husband loved his. The appetizer was delicious though!
Our original server was rude and in his own world. Didn't pay attention to what we were saying. He was replaced my a more senior person who was wonderful
Great place and will return. My one complaint is the price of wine. Smith & Hook Cab is a $19 bottle and they charge $42. Others were priced the same way. Feels like a ripoff.
We LOVE La Lanterna. The service is always excellent - Merrick is our favorite but everyone is great. The food is always excellent as well. We have never had a bad dish here, from appetizers to salads to entrees to desserts. You just can't go wrong!
Celebrated birthday with a wonderful dinner at our favorite place. Food and service is great. Plus it is quite so we can talk and visit without having to shout. Great place.
La Laterna food quality and service is very high and consistent. The Pollo Florentina was excellent (except for rather overcooked veggies), and the salads are always excellent.
Enjoyed the calamari and bruschetta for appetizer. We ordered from the special menu of the day and everyone liked what they ordered. The risotto with salmon, ravioli with portobello mushrooms and the petrale of sole were very good. Service was attentive. Will go again!
Second time at the restaurant and will become a favorite.
We had a wonderful meal last night, yet again at this neighborhood favorite of ours. I started with the burrata appetizer, which was generous and delicious. I'm doing keto and they obliged me with replacing potatoes with sautéed spinach, which was so fresh and good and my salmon was grilled perfectly. My husband started with the polenta, always fabulous with it's cheesy goodness and had the linguini vongole which he prefers in a creamy sauce which they accommodated. Great food, great service and chill atmosphere makes for a delightful evening.
Consistently an excellent and enjoyable dining venue. Last nights petrale sole special was outstanding, in presentation and taste. My wife's special risotto was outstanding as well. Nice to see a restaurant busy and doing well in today's challenging Covid environment.
Hadn’t been in years. Don’t know why but will go more now for sure. It was wonderful in every way!
The squid ink pasta with assorted seafood was fantastic, the pasta was perfectly al dente with a generous amount of seafood. It was my husband’s, but it was so good I kept dipping into it. I loved my lamb shank prepared with a lovely light sauce, so tender, I was able to cut it with a fork. My husband also ordered the Caesar salad which was large enough to serve two. Service was outstanding. We’ll be back soon to sample other menu items, but we’ll definitely be having squid ink pasta with seafood again. Kudos to chef Ramon Lopez!
We had a delicious dinner of the calamari breaded and in a light wine sauce with garlic mashed potatoes and delightful sauted veggies. Wonderful service, socially distanced indoors. We also shared a caesar salad which was the perfect size.
The evening was bustling with 3 large parties. Our service was attentive, as always, and our food arrived hot and delicious. La Lanterna is a neighborhood favorite!
Outstanding food! They were very accommodating about our schedule too. Got us in and out quickly so we could get to the theater on time. Would definitely return.
One of the best Italian restaurant in the peninsula.
Great food, ambiance and great service. Great time out
and yes we will return again
Service was terrible. Slow, and we had to ask several times for additional wine glasses, butter, etc. when we( party of 6) we’re through with our main courses, had to ask twice for take home containers, and waited 10 minutes for 1 take home container for dessert. The Risotto was excellent as was the Linguine and clams. It appeared that they were short handed with a private party going on but the waiting times were inexcusable.
One of the most consistently great dining experiences in San Mateo. Can’t wait to go back!
La Lanterna has been so consistent for many years. A true pleasure able dining experience!
Our food was excellent, and the staff was attentive and helpful. Had the calamari appetizer, entrees were snapper and tortolloni, and we enjoyed everything. We shared the apple strudel for dessert. It was a taste of autumn in a wonderful pastry shell. Overall, a great experience.
Uniformly fine food, attractively presented. The place is an appealing family run establishment.
Friendly servers, very good food, great service, not rushed at all. All in all a very nice experience.
Yummy! We love this restaurant so much we went back while on a recent road trip and the food, the presentation and the wait staff were everything we remembered from our prior visits. Consistently excellent! It's worth going out of your way for.
The food here is absolutely delicious!
I had soup (lobster bisque) and spaghetti. Ordered cookies and ice cream for dessert (biscotti and spumoni). Everything was delicious. I’m definitely going back.
Calamari was crisp, squid ink spaghetti was terrific.
