La Isla Restaurant - Uptown
After nearly 20 years of local cult status and high critical acclaim at a tiny location in downtown Hoboken, La Isla has expanded into a brand new 100 seat space near the city’s uptown waterfront at the Maxwell Project.
With acclaimed Chef Owner Omar Giner at the helm in a state-of-the-art facility, the new restaurant aims to capture the character and charm of the original with the same sense of authenticity and high value in a setting that would be at home in South Beach.
The new restaurant also features a full bar with over fifty wines by the glass, a large selection of fine rums, original tropical drinks and a dynamic offering of craft beers and spirits.
Come and experience the warm heart of the Cuban people, the fast beat of our music and the surprising character of our cuisine!

Nice atmosphere. Cozy. Friendly and personable staff. Excellent food with nice presentation. The salmon was outstanding as was the ropa vieja. Will definitely return.
Food and service were amazing! The cocktails were so delicious. The environment it self was a little loud but what can you expect when everyone is enjoying their food and company? Will go again,
Server was a bit rude and odd to us. We were not allowed to switch seats when we asked and the seats were very cramped together. One of our servers was nice but overall the ambience in the building was odd with all the workers standing around as you’re eating.
The seemed to have forgotten my Entrée
Delicious food, perfect maduros. sangria tasted more like a spiked punch than wine. Excited to come back and try more dishes!
Disappointed. Not enough help.
Positive: Great drinks and enjoyed my shirt steak.
Negative: There was a very large bug crawling on the inside window right next to us while ordering and the waitress didn’t acknowledge it or try to help us. My boyfriend found a bug in his water and had to ask twice for a new one. I found a bug in my water later on and told the waitress while paying and she said “they’re just around” which was alarming.
Amazing food. Great drinks. Staff was incredibly nice & welcoming! 10/10 recommend!
Good food, sometimes too salty!
Amazing food & atmosphere, just wish the waiter was a bit more attentive but I also understand it was busy. Overall, great restaurant!
Great food with great service!
Food excellent. Service good.
The wine I desired was not available, but a delicious substitution was offered.
Waiter hardly stopped by our table and the restaurant was not at full capacity. We would have ordered two more rounds of drinks but since we were not checked on, we didn’t. Additionally when the waiter did come over they didn’t clear any plates or refill waters without being asked.
The food was delicious. But it was SO hot in the restaurant. Uncomfortably hot, and the service wasn’t as good as usual. We had to ask for water 6 times before we got any, and we needed water because of the temperature in the restaurant.
La Isla never fails. Uptown and downtown are two gems in Hoboken. The food, the drinks, the service all outstanding.
Try it. You’ll love it.
love this place. A repeat customer. The food is always great.
The food was the best Cuban food I had in a long time. Plus $5 brunch drinks that were amazing and not weak or watered down. How can you beat that?
I was expecting better a part of me wanted to turn around and go somewhere else but we were already there . If I were alone I would have . The tables are tiny and it was the three of us . I wouldn’t go back
Food was amazing! This place never disappoints! Already planning on going back!
Amazing food and great ambience
It was good. They didn’t have the bottle of wine I wanted but I had a martini instead. Would go back.
It was a great experience for us
It was 95 degrees and the restaurant had not air conditioning or fans. It was so uncomfortable and very hott. Made the whole experience horrible.
All of our food was served cold.
Our server was extremely slow and not attentive at all. When we asked for our bill (for the 3rd time) he said he needed a minute, but continued to go to other tables and take their orders. We eventually just had to go to the front to pay our Bill.
We went for brunch with our kids and we had a wonderful meal. Can't wait to return soon. Environment is trendy yet family friendly. Peach bellini ♡
La Isla has consistently very good food. Service was good - the waiter did the best he could, as they are obviously understaffed. Drinks are very good as well.
went to La Isla for an early dinner, and had such a great time! we sat at the bar and our bartender Brian was super nice. The food was amazing too- we got the salmon and oxtail stew and it did not disappoint!
great waiter and excellent food
Service was great and food was excellent as always! Red Sangria is the bomb!
We love the brunch at La Isla
Great food and service!
Great food all the time
I was not aware that the restaurant had a prix fixe menu for Mother’s Day which was not a problem. My meal along with mom and dad were delicious! Will go back on a regular day and chow on their regular menu.
Happy Mother’s Day Breakfast but they wanted you to order a 3 course meal. I asked if I can order a few appetizers instead but, they forced the issue that the Mother day 3 course meal had to be ordered for both parties at 10am. We paid for our drinks and left. Makes no sense to eat a 3 course dinner at 10am and I asked the waitress twice about ordering appetizers and sandwiches instead and was denied. Only after I requested for the check, she wanted to accept our order. By that time, I was upset. I just wanted breakfast
Food and drinks were excellent. The atmosphere is fun and music was great. The dessert was not as good, but we will definitely be coming back more often for the food!
Really fun and great food/drinks! Highly recommend
Staff was great! Food was a bit dry but the guacamole was amazing!!! Definitely order!
Staying in the neighborhood and have already been there twice. The food is authentic Cuban and the prices are very reasonable considering the uptown area. Had empanadas, black beans and rice, ropa viieja, then Saturday brunch. Cocktails excellent. The servers were so friendly and attentive. Wry cute outside seating.
