La Isla Restaurant - Uptown
After nearly 20 years of local cult status and high critical acclaim at a tiny location in downtown Hoboken, La Isla has expanded into a brand new 100 seat space near the city’s uptown waterfront at the Maxwell Project.
With acclaimed Chef Owner Omar Giner at the helm in a state-of-the-art facility, the new restaurant aims to capture the character and charm of the original with the same sense of authenticity and high value in a setting that would be at home in South Beach.
The new restaurant also features a full bar with over fifty wines by the glass, a large selection of fine rums, original tropical drinks and a dynamic offering of craft beers and spirits.
Come and experience the warm heart of the Cuban people, the fast beat of our music and the surprising character of our cuisine!

It was my Bestfriend’s early bday dinner and I chose this place since they had nice menu Options as well as the ambience was exactly what I was looking for. But the directions for the area where you parking was a bit confusing since there was more than one place to park across the street to make sure we get validated for the parking. I even called to make sure I was in the correct lot and the hostess clearly did not know. She asked and reassured me I was in the correct area and she was absolutely wrong we didn’t find out until we asked for the validation. I am thankful that the management did try to work with us to help with the inconvenience so I appreciate that very much. The server was nice but not very attentive he was gone for quite a bit of time and we had to ask other workers for things we needed for the table and the bill. It was a bit odd since it was not even that busy for a Saturday night. Also they squeezed us in a corner area right before the steps when you first walked in where there was table that was already seated took it upon themselves to move their table so Ww all were able to sit comfortable. I did mention as well on the reservations that it’s a bday celebration that didn’t seem to matter much I guess so not sure why it’s asked. Other restaurants that I’ve gone to makes the experience more personal. I’ve been in the restaurant industry so these little gestures help. The air was extremely cold you had to leave your entire coat on and hat even some staff had there coats and beanie hats on not to sure what was going on with the temperature here. It felt like there was no heat even in the bathroom. The food was outstanding when it finally came out but the drinks are extremely bitter and so strong that I had to ask for nectar juice just to drink it. The bartender either forgot an ingredient and or was just heavy handed that night. With this all being said it was a nice first enjoyable meal here just wished they were a bit more attentive.
Our host Enrique was phenomenal, excellent recommendations and service. Delicious food, it lives up to its hype amongst locals.
Our go-to spot! Everything on the menu is fantastic but the tuna appetizer is one of my top dishes of all time
Warm and gracious service in a beautifully decorated restaurant in a convenient location with fantastic food! Try the sangria…….the half pitcher is more than enough.
Love everything about La Isla: food, wine, ambience and staff. A fun and delicious experience every time.
I love this place and have been here a few times. I decided to drag my friends across the way from Manhattan. I was very disappointed. My food was cold and even after a second time, warm. The food really had no flavor. I hope the haven't changed chefs. The drinks were good and dessert 🍨 even better. The highlight of the place was our waitress Betsy. She was very accommodating and tried to make us all happy. She's an asset to the place. I might try one more time.. but I doubt it.
I had another awesome dinner!
Must go! Food is absolutely amazing! The ambience is perfect.
Appetizers were barely lukewarm and skirt steak was raw.
Granted we were not charged for coffee Cubano which was delicious.
Great food.. great service
Always great food and service. Excellent value.
Server Adriana C provided the worse service Sat. 10/30 I’ve experienced at this location before. She never checked back and had to ask for everything most of the time by others.
Eaten here many times and the quality is reliable. Food was fantastic last night. Dining room was moderately crowded and the service was prompt. Menu has been slimmed down recently. Would like to see the tomato and avocado salad returned.
Convenient parking in the underground garage next door. They give you a voucher so parking is only $5.00.
Ambiance is warm and friendly. Service was excellent with a lot of smiles and just the right amount of attention. Food was excellent.
Have been looking forward to Omar’s Stuffed French Toast. All 4 of us had it and absolutely loved it! Definitely want to go back again. Thank you for helping add to a great birthday in New York/Hoboken fir my wife.
Delicious food and great service! Would definitely recommend!
Never had such a rude experience with two waitresses. Laughing in my face from across the bar because I sent my food back because it was cold. The supervisor said they were laughing because my eggs were cold. The actual potatoes were cold. We didn’t have to pay for anything but a joke. So disgustingly treated. Never ever ever again!
The food was delicious. The atmosphere was lively and inviting.
It was a great meal!
Very friendly excellent service from apps thru several courses. Every dish was perfect, different, and terrific.
The service was ok not enough of waiters and helpers. The food took almost and hour to be served and when it arrived it was cold. The churrasco was not as expected. To small for the price!! The appetizers was to expensive for the amount of guacamole served. They didn’t have three leches cakes. My family and I will not go back to that restaurant.
Overall we had a good experience. The staff was very pleasant, seems as though they may have been understaffed but many places are. Food was good and we would return.
Always a good trip to La Isla!
The food is not as excellent as before( still good)
The ambience was nice, but the food was underwhelming. We had the Cuban sandwich, which was very dry. The guacamole was good, and the ropa vieja was okay. Went to the Cuban a week before and would recommend that over La Isla
First time dining here, we loved it and so did are 2 1/2 yr old toddler. Looking forward to our next meal.
A great little restaurant with wonderful food that actually is cooked perfectly. Service is a little slow but it's mostly because it has the environment that you would enjoy spending time in. The staff is very attentive and very kind.
Hostess was rude extremely rude food was mediocre and waitress was ok. Wouldn’t hurt if she tried to smile and be pleasant. I’ll never be eating there again and would never recommend it.
Great Food, drinks and Service.
Nice food, nice atmosphere, service so so
Awesome as always…and Brian is the best, as always!
Great food & service. We arrived early and they were able to seat us.
Food and service was excellent! It was my first visit and I will visit again!!
Nice atmosphere. Cozy. Friendly and personable staff. Excellent food with nice presentation. The salmon was outstanding as was the ropa vieja. Will definitely return.
Food and service were amazing! The cocktails were so delicious. The environment it self was a little loud but what can you expect when everyone is enjoying their food and company? Will go again,
Server was a bit rude and odd to us. We were not allowed to switch seats when we asked and the seats were very cramped together. One of our servers was nice but overall the ambience in the building was odd with all the workers standing around as you’re eating.
The seemed to have forgotten my Entrée
Delicious food, perfect maduros. sangria tasted more like a spiked punch than wine. Excited to come back and try more dishes!
Disappointed. Not enough help.
