La Isla Restaurant - Uptown
After nearly 20 years of local cult status and high critical acclaim at a tiny location in downtown Hoboken, La Isla has expanded into a brand new 100 seat space near the city’s uptown waterfront at the Maxwell Project.
With acclaimed Chef Owner Omar Giner at the helm in a state-of-the-art facility, the new restaurant aims to capture the character and charm of the original with the same sense of authenticity and high value in a setting that would be at home in South Beach.
The new restaurant also features a full bar with over fifty wines by the glass, a large selection of fine rums, original tropical drinks and a dynamic offering of craft beers and spirits.
Come and experience the warm heart of the Cuban people, the fast beat of our music and the surprising character of our cuisine!
We love the ambiance, food and vibe of this restaurant. Delicious and unique drinks.
We have always been fans of the downtown location. This was our first time uptown and from the moment we walked in it was a wow. Casual chic. Great beers on tap. Nice cocktails. And the usual excellent food. And driving here is easier because of location and there even is a lot a block away. We come down from north bergen so this is on our list of places to repeat again and again. P.s. we also just tried RazZa in Jersey city. Wow
I was downtown but still great
The food was great and the restaurant is very nice but the service was exceptionally bad. We will not be going back due to that particular issue. It took over 30 minutes to get our first order of drinks. Due to the slow service our dinner for four took 2 hours.
sat at bar, drinks were good and so were the appetizers. I had chicken and my friend had flank steak both of which were generous portions and done very well. Definitely recommend as a casual night out.
Love the location and the decor. Food was great and service was good!
Great spot, great food, and a great night.
Such a delicious change of pace for brunch. My son and I shared the stuffed french toast (rich, sweet, very unique) and the rice/beans/egg/hangar steak dish (so good, but can't remember the name.) Every bite was awesome! We also tried one of their shakes, which was yummy and not too sweet.
Great food. Had their burger and fries plus a mojito. Everything's tasty. Key lime tart for dessert. Really delicious and visually beautiful. It's a favorite spot to meet our son who lives in Honoken.
I drive an hour for La Isla, it is that good! Very authentic. This time around the Lechon Asado (pulled pork) was a little too salty. Hopefully that's not the norm for future visits.
Had a nice dining expetience for my bday! Excellent food and service
My girlfriend and I had lunch, which we enjoyed very much. The location is great and the ambiance was fitting. However there was a young child around 2 to 3 years old that had a temper tantrum that was very distracting and quite irritating.
Good food, good service, nice ambience, reasonable price
Great service and great food. One of the best values in town.
Food was good Service was good but our waiter didn’t understand us at times. Overall very good
Nikki my server was amazing! Food was very good , authentic and hot (which is very important to me) The only thing is that my steak was over cooked. Otherwise, check it out! I highly recommend The garlic shrimp, it was unbelievable! Absolutely delicious in a light cream sauce with large shrimp, not the small ones 🍤 very different from any garlic shrimp I’ve ever had.!
Food was cold and they didn’t give me the correct entree
The food was always -- amazing . Service needs some improvements-- we needed a place setting for one of our table mates--- after waiting for the setting -- food was at the table -- we had to go and take it from another table. When the dishes were served -- the missing place setting should have been taken care of.
Other than that --- everything was great .
We went for Sunday brunch and it was absolutely delicious. Omar's Stuffed French Toast was a highlight! Will definitely be back.
Went for Sunday brunch. The food was so delicious- it was authentic, very tasty and satisfying! My friend had a coconut mojito and it was also delicious! La Isla did not disappoint and I look forward to returning again in the future.
New Year’s Eve Family Dinner
Overall, a great spot. I only gave 4 stars because although we had reservations, the hostess initially seated my 6'8" husband and I at a tiny table in the front bar area. When we asked for a table in the main dining room, we were only offered a high top cocktail table, even though there were many empty tables ("with reservations" , which is what WE had). Disappointing.
We enjoyed everything but our favorite was the mango coconut cheesecake! That was an amazing treat. We will be returning very soon!!!! Thanks for everything.
I had an omelet which was delicious, the only issue I had was the home fries were cold!
Food is always amazing! Great service! Very clean restaurant!!
I loved this place. The staff was so friendly and served my table well. The food came out in a timely manner and was delicious from apps to dessert. I will definitely go again.
The service was surprisingly poor today, the waitress seemed to keep forgetting about us, lost our order and we had to request things like creamer for the coffee, or a coffee refill multiple times.
Average food with extremely lousy service. We had a table booked for four people at 1030 in the morning for Brunch. We had to wait over 1 hour to hrt our food and when it finally arrived we did not get what we initially ordered
Felt rushed because it was busy and the waitress seemed confused (mixed up orders, had to keep asking what we got)
Excellent Food and great ambiance, nice area and good crowd.
Service is good as well and the food is excellent.
Thank you and it is a must
This is the second time we ate at La Isla and we weren't disappointed the first or the second. We went for lunch the first time and loved the black bean hummus, this time we went for brunch on Sunday, we had a reservation and was glad the place was packed. Everyone loved the meal, the empanadas, Cuban sandwich. Highly recommend.
We’ve been fans of La Isla for a long time. The uptown location was disappointing. The tables are so close to each other there is no privacy. Service was unacceptable with a spilled drink, no sauce for tostones and no steak knives. Probably won’t go back; except for the downtown location. We expected much more!
Great food, a serious wine collection, a fun atmosphere, great service. Much more spacious than the downtown branch.
Great first time experience catching up with a friend. There’s a parking garage on the same block, which is cheaper than the one across the street.
Food was ok. Service was very mediocre. Waitress acted like we were a bother to serve.
Delicious brunch with my sister. She had huevos rancheros minus several ingredients and they did not mind accomodating her. I had the stuffed French toast. We both enojoyed our meals and I look forward to returning.
Love the original La Isla. The uptown spot is very different, yet still just as wonderful. Highly recommended.
Food is very good. Atmosphere was a bit loud, tough to have a conversation.
The food arrived lukewarm and bland. Neither my date nor I enjoyed our meal. Later, the waitress asked how we enjoyed the meal - I told her the truth, and she just nodded her head and walked away.
I won’t be recommending this place to anyone, and that’s my honest feedback.
Delicious authentic Cuban food! Such attentive service! Thank you La Isla!
