La Grotta is tucked away in the heart of the Buckhead residential district and overlooks the lush gardens of the condo courtyard in which it is located. La Grotta literally means "the cave" in Italian and was named such for its cavernous and warm setting. The La Grotta staff is also well known and regarded for its vast knowledge of its customers, the food, diverse knowledge of languages (our staff speaks Italian, Spanish, French & German) and attention to detail. The menu specializes in Northern Italian cuisine with seasonal changes to reflect freshness of ingredients with a focus on locally grown produce.
Impeccable service. I recommend the calamari as an appetizer and the veal chop with black truffles as an entree. The tiramisu and crime brûlée are as good as I have ever had.
The experience was wonderful from start to finish. From the service to the food, and rose to my wonderful lady upon departure,m. Thank you for the wonderful time.
This is my favorite restaurant in Atlanta and it didn’t disappoint this time. My husband and I went to celebrate Valentine’s (the day after) and everything was wonderful. I got the risotto - delicious! As always the service was superior which is the main reason we keep going back.
Amazing experience. As someone who’s visited and lived in Italy this was the closest thing I’ve had to a true Italian experience. Will be back again when visiting Georgia.
Valentine’s Day, packed house but everything done right!
We have liked La Grotta over the years for special occasions and expected the usual top-rate experience for Valentine's Day. Unfortunately the entree we both chose, the chicken picatta, was a disappointment, both in flavor and preparation. The combination of ingredients and undercooked chicken breast was for us, inedible. Everything else was fine, and we were attended to royally with concern for our dissatisfaction, ultimately receiving an adjustment on the bill. We consider this an anomaly on their part
and will surely return at another time on another special occasion.
Food Was outstanding. Our server was very knowledgeable and made some great recommendations for us. The food is extremely well prepared, pricey, but worth it.
This place is truly a dining experience!
I have been going to La Grotta for over thirty years for many special occasions and business dinners. It is one of my favorite restaurants in the country.
Always the best food!
A wonderful restaurant that has been at the top of their game for many years! Our server (Billy) was amazing and the food outstanding! I've eaten at this restaurant multiple times over the years and it has always been excellent. I highly recommend it!
Fabulous, best evening ever
Waiter. Was amazing funny attentive just a great dining experience
Great service for anyone. Very welcoming and a lovely place to dine at. This is a great place to enjoy a memorable evening.
Impeccable service and cuisine
One of the best restaurants in Atlanta after all these years! Surprising since Atlanta is very competitive!
My wife and I revisited after a 15 year absence. The experience was as good as we remembered with all aspects delivered at a very high level.
Celebration for office meeting goala
This is an amazing place to enjoy your meal with family or friends. It's clean and lovely and I had the best birthday dinner here!
This was my second dining experience at La Grotta. My first experience was VERY disappointing. This time, I enjoyed the evening. We we're promptly seated. The service was good as was the food. Our waiter checked on us regularly. The restaurant was not busy while we were dining as compared to my first experience. That may be the trick at La Grotta: only dine when they are not really busy. I did not however think the food was commensurate with a $100 tab per person.
It was our first time, we'd heard so many good things about La Grotta and it didn't disappoint. Great service and great food...
This was my second time dining at La Grotta and it was as awesome as the last. I have not eaten better. Thanks, La Grotta, for making my daughter's birthday fabulous every year.
It was great from start to finish. An example of how a great restaurant should be.
3rd time to this restaurant and everything was perfect!! Would recommend to anyone wanting to have real Italian Food. My wife was with smiles the entire time.
My favorite Italian restaurant in Atlanta.
Such an amazing restaurant!
If you haven’t been, please go soon. It is like traveling someplace special. The food and s always fantastic. The service is old school wonderful.
I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Probably in the Top 3 anywhere!!
Best Italian in Atlanta!! Always, always, always just outstanding!
The food was absolutely outstanding...my wife, who had never been, was a bit worried walking in as the restaurant is in the basement of an apartment/condo complex, but she was absolutely sold walking out remarking it was the best Italian food she's had. La Grotta, in our opinion, is materially better than the other Buckhead Italian restaurants.
After paying the bill, the maitre de came to the table and advised that he had forgotten to add the dessert to the bill. By the way the dessert was not made to our satisfaction. Additional $23.00 plus gratuity. Very unprofessional.
Ambiance, service and food were all outstanding. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
Great location and food for a business dinner. Not happy with server however 'up selling' me on the wine after given my budget. You mean there really is not a descent Italian red for $100? A bit awkward in front of my clients.
This restaurant has been around for 40 years - we have gone off and on over those 40 years and the high standard has never slipped. The atmosphere is lovely, warm and welcoming without being pretentious. Very high quality ingredients prepared to showcase the food. Never disappoints
Well prepared food. Wine list way too expensive.
Very noisy, yet nice and confortable!
Excellent and efficient waiters. Prompt service.
We had a reservation at 8:45pm, arrived on time but had to wait for our table over 20mn without any explanation or apologies!
Too bad as the food, service and waiters were excellent!
My overall experience was disappointing. My reservation was for 8:45pm and I had to wait for 30 minutes before I could get a table. After I got a table I had to wait quite some time again for my order to be taken. Based on their website I expected a more culinary 'high end' experience but the risotto, though very expensive, did not meet my expectations. The salad was alright and the bread was good. My ice cream was served in a very plain way, again, it makes no difference to the taste but in a restaurant that claims to be that classy? I was warned that the ambiance would be quite 'lively' which proved to be true. In fact it was very loud, so loud that I could hardly understand the waiters. They were polite by the way.
The valet service was quick so no complaints there!
All in all I don't think I will visit La Grotta again.
We spent our 10th anniversary at La Grotta. Great people, wonderful food. Staff was amazing. Juiliana was our waiter and picked our food for us. Amazing. My wife is a huge fan of quaint throwback Italian place and she was blown away! Smiled for days. We had our kids with us (8 and 9) and they were really kind and accommodating. The kids actually behaved and enjoyed the experience. Met the owner and family. We will definitely be going back soon.
An Atlanta classic that never disappoints! Best risotto in town and the martinis are perfection- perfect place for a special occasion or date.
La Grotta was perfect for my birthday! Food was wonderful. We both had a special starter...tomatoes, mozzarella cheese with prosciutto. I had the veal scallopini with mushrooms and marsala sauce. My husband had their beef tenderloin dish. Both were excellent! We split a bottle of Amarone. They have an extensive wine list that would be sure to offer something special for every guest. Service was top-notch. We would definitely recommend and will return.
Danny our waiter was spectacular
As always a job well done
Simply one of the best restaurants in Atlanta. Ambience is lovely and you can actually have a conversation at your table. Service is outstanding (shout out to Juliano, my favorite) and the food is always expertly prepared. Try the Dover Sole, or duck breast or any of their housemade pastas. This is one of my go to restaurants and I have been going there since 1999. Love the place
We had such a wonderful dinner.
Walter and Billy were personable and guided us through the menu with ease. Walter suggested a Riesling which went well with my whole meal. Billy recommended the stuffed quail when I inquired which of two would he suggest. Dessert was panna cotta for myself and ricotta cheesecake for my husband.
The ambiance and soft jazz playing in the background was such that I felt taken away from the workaday world which was especially a treat since today is my birthday.
We celebrate my wife's birthday every year at this restaurant. It's the closest food we've found compared to eating in Italy.
