La Grotta Ratings and Reviews
The menu, wine list, decor and service recreates the top of the line Italian restaurant experience from 30 years ago. The food is excellent and well-sauced and cooked perfectly. That's why it's our choice for very special occasions like Valentine's Day and why you always need a reservation. And they have outdoor seating.
This was my first dining experience at La Grotta; I was not disappointed. The service was excellent! With three waiters / servers taking care of everything you need or want, you're table is never emptied of anything; The food was OUTSTANDING!!! I had the baked quail, stuffed with Italian sausage! DELISH- PERFECT!!! My wife had the fish of the day; Grouper pan seared; It was tender, flaky and juicy wit exquisite flavorings; We had a bottle of the recommended Oregon Red Pinot Noir. It was perfect also. Finished up with two Lemon-Chellos and a slice of their Tiramisu!!
This romantic, local, Italian restaurant is my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. There isn't anything I don't love about La Grotta. There is a wide variety of offerings on the menu to suit any taste, including vegetarian. Try anything with truffles...you will not be disappointed!
I've lived in ATL for 21 years and tried almost every restaurant in town: old staples, new openings. I eat out a lot.
I had a small table at La Grotta on a recent Tuesday night for my birthday with my children and two friends. We had an outstanding meal matched with superlative, knowledgable and friendly service. La Grotta is the best Italian in Atlanta, hands down, argument over. The location and scene are unlike anything else. You may spot an ATL celebrity there, not because they want to be seen, but because they know where to eat.
You can try Italian elsewhere, but will not enjoy a meal like you can at La Grotta.
Hostess asked us to checkout at the bar and move to our table. We did that and gave up our bar seats only to be told our table had been given to a white couple. Had to stand around for additional ten minutes to be seated. We were the only blacks in the restaurant and felt discriminated against. The waitresses were great but had a horrible experience overall.
We went there for my wife's birthday. Everything felt rushed. We ended up not ordering a first course so the entrees were out within 6 to 7 minutes of ordering, but the problem was they didn't get them right and they served one of our guests the wrong entrée. So we had to wait and our food got cold. Would have preferred they took an extra few minutes to get it right the first time. They were also very anxious to clear the table -- so much so that have our party was still eating as they were pulling plates away from in front of them. I guess they did not view us as a high dollar table since we didn't order a first course and only ordered a $55 bottle of wine, so they wanted to turn the table and get us out of there. We left hungry and went to another restaurant for a second dinner that night and a much more pleasant experience.
My husband and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary here last night and WOW. Everything was incredible.
Appetizer: We did the grilled portobello topped with goat cheese and pine nuts. It was served with a baby spinach salad and it was delicious.
My Entree: I'm a vegetarian so I got the sacchetti filled with cheese and black truffles with a creamy Marsala sauce. We paid the extra for the black truffle shavings on top and it was 100% worth it.
My Husband's: The Veal loin scaloppine with wild mushrooms and creamy Marsala sauce. He also added the truffle shavings.
Dessert: tiramisu and creme brûlée, both were amazing.
We both had craft cocktails and they were very good and reasonably priced.
The service was outstanding and everyone who served us wished us a happy anniversary. Even got complimentary champagne with dessert. Will definitely make La Grotta our go to spot for celebrating special occasions. We can't wait to go back.
My Dad started an accounting firm around 1982 and Sergio, who had just opened La Grotta, was one of his first clients. So La Grotta was always my parents favorite. I went a couple of times in the 90’s. It was always good. Became a foodie and frequent trendy restaurants but went to La Grotta last week. It was fabulous. Great food, cocktails, wine and the atmosphere was fabulous. I’ll definitely be back regularly.
La Grotta never disappoints! The servers are at the top of their game (no amateurs here!). They are sensitive to price questions and budgets (this was a business dinner). Food is always meticulously served (even large tables get their food at the same time). Delicious, just like the old country...
We have dined at La Grotta on numerous occasions. This one was for my wife's birthday. As expected the service was impeccable and the cuisine delicious! The waitstaff paid us great attention and saw to all of our needs. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoys Italian cuisine.
The wild mushroom rissoto with truffles was just perfect, and the appetizer portion was surprisingly generous. A great selection of wines by the glass gave me a chance to try a wonderful A marine. The only regret was that I was driving and couldn't visit their really well stocked bar. Next time I'll Uber.
It was exceptional, as always. It can easily be said that this is the best restaurant in the US. We travel a lot and go to the best restaurant everywhere we go. The only other place I can put on the same level is Le Bernadin from New York. Eric Ripert is a phenomenal chef there but the atmosphere at Le Bernadin leaves a little extra to be desired and service is very stuffy.
So there it is. La Grotta is the best of the best of the best.
I’m sure all of you reading this will agree.
The ONLY complaint I have is where the hostess sat us on a Saturday might @ 6. We had reservations and it appeared we were one of the first few parties at LaGrotto.
She sat us at the table next to the bar facing the kitchen. I asked her if we could have a table away from the bar and kitchen. She politely refused our request. she said those other tables were already reserved. I didn't persist, but I was NOT happy. There were multiple tables that weren't yet occupied : there were only 5 people in our party: It seems to me that she should have accommodated our request.
Otherwise, the food, service, and atmosphere??? EXCELLENT
It was superb food - we had a great view of the christmas tree outside. Everybody (including my 18 month old son) loved the calamari with pesto and the mussels for the appetizers. For entrees, we loved the wild mushroom risotto with truffles and the catch of the day. Their side pasta was also excellent. Great food and amount for the price - would go there again!
