La Grotta is tucked away in the heart of the Buckhead residential district and overlooks the lush gardens of the condo courtyard in which it is located. La Grotta literally means "the cave" in Italian and was named such for its cavernous and warm setting. The La Grotta staff is also well known and regarded for its vast knowledge of its customers, the food, diverse knowledge of languages (our staff speaks Italian, Spanish, French & German) and attention to detail. The menu specializes in Northern Italian cuisine with seasonal changes to reflect freshness of ingredients with a focus on locally grown produce.
Food and service was outstanding! It’s a little on the pricey side but still worth what you spend. It seemed crowded when we were there and it was quite noisy which was a bummer but once it emptied out, it was really a great atmosphere.
Everything was excellent!!!
Always great - food and service never disappoints. Tables are a little too jammed together which makes the noise level high. But still one of Atlanta's best
Nice experience. Waiters understood when not to interrupt conversation. Food was good
I emphatically recommend this restaurant. An Atlanta classic! Eat here and you won't see a reason to go anywhere else. Food exquisite, service exceptional, just terrific all around. Best in Atlanta by far.
Great food as usual. Wait staff is very experienced.
Superb as always. Food, service, everything first rate.
First time here and it was absolutely amazing!! Highly recommend for special occasion or for a really nice dinner! Our waiters Billy and Tony were outstanding!
First time dining here. Everything was superb! Love the old world and authentic feel of this place. I get so tired of renovated warehouse dining and this was a welcome change. Excellent wine list. It was hard to make entree choices because the entire selection looked amazing. We are definitely coming back on the next trip.
Great place for a celebration with fine food and great service.
One can never go wrong with any item on the menu. We have been dining here for more years than I can count!!! Go! You will not be disappointed
Always the best food ever and wonderful service. The waiter recommended the bolognese and it was fantastic!!!
As usual an exceptional evening at La Grotta!
The best Italian food in Atlanta
From beginning to end or Soup to Nuts this is the best place for date night, foodie fun and great atmosphere. Bring your friends and have one of the best meals of your life! Yummy
Great ambience and service. Food of course was amazing.
My only complaint is that we had to wait 20 minutes for our table to be ready even though we had a reservation (a late one at that) and then it took a while to order once we were seated. Once we ordered everything was great just wish we didn't have to wait so long.
You'd never think a fine northern Italian restaurant would last 40+ years in the basement of a condo building, but La Grotta has the secret sauce. A little pricey in aggregate but each dish is perfectly prepared. Very attentive service. The room can get a little cozy, but the large round that materialized for our party of 8 made for a perfectly convivial dinner together!
Fantastic food and service!
This is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city.
Absolutely one of our favorite places in Atlanta. Unique setting and superb service. The cuisine is amazing.
Way to loud for a good dinner conversation but still a very good old line Italian restaurant.
This was our first dining experience at La Grotta. Food and service(Damien and Billy) were excellent. We both love middle/northern Italian food. I particularly appreciated that they had good wine by the half bottle. Deanna & John
Exceptional food and service in a quiet and romantic setting. Will absolutely return!
Everyone was first class!
Amazing service and food!!
Eduardo was a great server. Tex not so much. He didn’t walk us through the specials, as he did to the table next to us, was very dry and unwelcoming and made it pretty clear he didn’t want to be serving that night. He disappeared and then Eduardo, who he was teaming with finished up strong. Food was good as usual. Bottled red wine served a bit too warm.
Every single visit to La Grotta is filled with fantastic service, exceptional food and an overall excellent experience. Can’t say enough good things about this restaurant.
This was our first visit to La Grotta, which has been a staple of Atlanta and especially of the Buckhead establishment for decades. Situated on the bottom floor of an apartment/condo building in Buckhead, the restaurant offers free valet parking. The service is top notch, and the food was delicious. We started with the grilled calamari, which was so flavorful from the basil (pesto) sauce in which it was served. I like that it was not fried, and the kitchen split our appetizer so that my husband and I had our own servings. He had the lobster pappardelle, and I had the shrimp cappellini, both of which were fabulous and just the right amount; so many restaurants serve portions that are way too large. Of the two dishes, the lobster pasta was better, but it’s hard to compare because the cappellini was so light and flavorful. I was just so impressed with the amount of lobster and the light sauce, and I hate it when my husband outorders me. Ha! Their bread tray is delicious too, and they offer butter, oil/balsamic, and olives along with the olive loaf and bread that is soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. We knew we had to have tiramisu for dessert since we had read so many good reviews about it, and this dessert was fabulous. I asked Vince, who visited our table to make sure everything was going great, what was crunchy in the dessert, and he told me they used amaretto cookies in addition to the ladyfingers. Top scores for the tiramisu! Overall La Grotta is a very nice restaurant with a lovely ambiance and great food. Of all of the positives, the people watching was probably our favorite ; )
Wonderful food with great service
Too much noise. Spoils the purpose of the meal.
The service was outstanding. Our waiters were very attentive. We were there to celebrate a college graduation and they brought out four glasses of Prosecco for us to enjoy.
Hidden gem! Fantastic service and food was excellent.
Met up with a good friend and had great conversation, great food and great service!
La Grotta is by far our favorite restaurant!
I don't know how to start, but we went last Tuesday, I will not say that the waiter was rude, just arrogant! much to say about the service, nothing good!
The food we order
Carpaccio All'Italiana not even close to being a good carpaccio
Burrata di Mozzarella Fresca nothing special, 3 weeks before we went to Colletta excellent burrata
Ravioloni con Caprino: excellent ravioli, very good
Penne con Verdure, Salsicce e Salsa al Gorgonzola : nothing special
2 Risotto di Funghi with truffles, the waiter told us about the best risotto, I think I thought we had never eaten risotto, very wrong, one of our favorite dishes very sad, not even close to being at least good, and for the absurd price,I dare to say that if the chef tasted the risotto, he gives me the reason, no mushroom flavor, much less truffle.
Torta di Cioccolato Rustico very good, the best of the night!
I don't know, if it was a bad day in the kitchen also a bad waiter but with the excellent review that the restaurant has
I leave the impression that the Grotta is a restaurant of many years and history but already overrated
Christian continues to run the best restaurant in Atlanta!!
Excellent food and service.
We go every year around the first week in December and always make it a point to go to La Grotta. The white truffle risotto is a must.
Best Italian restaurant in the South Highly recommend
