Beautiful restaurant and excellent service - food is even better. La Grotta is a well-planned, cozy and intimate restaurant that still feels bright and expansive, with large windows and glass walls separating the dining rooms. Service was friendly and very professional. We went here for Restaurant Week and the entrees were very large and exquisite. We will definitely be back.
Great meal, lovely ambiance, excellent service. What more could you ask for?
We had a fantastic dining experience at LaGrotta to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect.
Outstanding in every aspect. Food was wonderful and our server Oxana (spelled incorrectly) was extremely knowledgeable and made some great suggestions. The wine pairings and pice fixed menu worked well for our group.
Fantastic as always. The chef himself delivered our meals and we all cleaned our plates! We always enjoy going to La Grotta.
Everytime we have eaten at this restaurant it has been an amazing dining experience. Great food, service and value.
enjoyed the atmosphere and especially the bar tender who was very nice. I enjoyed my food but my wife's was outstanding
The pasta dishes were light but had so much flavor. The pasta could tell was made in house. Sauces were delicious and complimented the pasta dishes well. Had the tiramisu which was also made in house and was terrific. Wait staff was very pleasant and attentive. Overall experience was very enjoyable. We would go again if staying in the Richmond area.
Awesome meal. Loved the quail
Fantastic, authentic Italian food. It rivals any restaurant I have dined at in Italy. We had the five course meal, asked for the chef to select each course and we were astounded how good it all was.
Everything was delicious!
Dinner was excellent, service was superb. Great location, high end inside.
Pleasant atmosphere, attentive service and delicious food. Good value.
Very noisy and tables were very close together. Lots of people there before Symphony Pops that night.
We had dinner before the symphony. Waiter staff was very knowledgeable and the food was outstanding. We did the three course wine dinner. We'll likely dine their again next symphony season.
This was our first visit to La Grotta's new location. It is centrally located and easy to get to and you can use the valet parking for ease. The waiter was very attentive, and explained the menu to us. Our meals came out quickly and all of of us LOVED our meals.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants authentic Italian food. We will definitely be back again!
Could have been good but seating leaves a lot to be desired. Restaurant is mostly empty and they sit you right beside other parties so you have no privacy. There were plenty of other tables available with more space between the parties.
Quite simply delicious. Fresh ingredients. Home made. Excellent Italian cuisine for lunch and dinner menus.
We were seated in the corner with a nice view of the street through the large glass windows.
From the initial greeting, to getting our water glasses filled, answering questions about the menu and getting wine suggestions the service was awesome. We really enjoyed dinner and plan on going back. The food was excellent and the price was reasonable and felt for a dinner for two it was well priced. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a romantic date night out.
Seated on time for our reservation. Pleasant server. Mediocre food. The seafood special was delivered below room temperature - supposedly rockfish with mussels, scallops and shrimp. The rockfish looked more like tough monkfish. $35 entree. I had one mussel and the entire dish was lukewarm. I was celebrating with a friend and didn't want to create a scene so I just dealt with the mediocre food. In comparison to Edo Squid or Filemona in Georgetown - both of which I visited with friends over the past week - this was a total bust.
The food was excellent and the service was outstanding.
What an exceptional dining experience! The food was delicious, the service prompt and attentive and the ambiance pleasant and comfortable. The menu included a variety of "unusual" and tasty entrees, along with usual standards, all well prepared. The location is well suited to dine pre or post theatre, and staff are able to meet that request without rushing the dining experience. We will be back.
Lunch after conducting other business downtown.
Parking is the issue, not sure where to park when all public parking are full
The meal specials were over priced and we weren’t informed of the price. The lobster ravioli was average with average presentation.
My mother and I went here after going to the VMFA to see the terracotta warriors. Although there was parking all around the restaurant, it was all filled on a Saturday night. However, we found a spot and found out you can reserve a parking spot through a parking app. Good to know for next time! We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was loud, but in a family get together kind of way. We had a very nice bottle of wine and a four course meal. All the meals were prompt, presented like art, and were prepared perfect. Our waiter Andre was very attentive to us, regularly filling our wine and water glasses. I really fell in love with this place.
Very good food and solid service 😃
Amazing food and good service. The server came off a little snobbish, but overall a great place.
This was the first time I had been to the new location. I liked the old building location better. Overall we had a good time and the food and wine was very good.
The food was good, but not the usual over the top good. We ordered fried calamari and it was under cooked. A lot of garlic in the gnocchi. The hostess checked on tables around us asking how their food was, but ignored us totally.
Not worth the prices. Food was average. Service was great.
We were seated right away when we arrived for our 6pm reservation. The service was good, maybe not great, but pleasant. I asked the waitress for a better description of one of the specials, and she didn’t explain the dish. Our calamari appetizer was not a standout. Good, but not particularly special. We ended up with 2 of the evenings specials. His lobster with fresh pasta was good. The pasta was cooked well as was the lobster. Interestingly, my boyfriend did not finish his dish. I don’t think he liked it very much. I had the braised veal cheeks -the dish she did not describe to me. Absolutely delicious. The veal was extremely tender and flavorful. We finished with a strawberry grand mariner cake and coffee. We actually had to track down our server at this point to get our dessert and check in time to get to our show at the Altria Theater on time. Overall, this was a great dinner in a nice setting.
As always, the food was delicious and we had perfect timing to make it to the opera on time
Excellent food with good size portions. Extensive wine list. Great for larger groups as well as an intimate dinner for 2. Perect for dinner before a Carpenter Center show...only a block away.
As always, La Grotta is our favorite restaurant in Richmond. Excellent Italian food, very nice atmosphere and a first class waitstaff. Highly recommend!
It is hard to find authentic Italian food in the Richmond area. La Grotta definitely fits the bill. The sauce was equally tangy and robust. A little pricey but worth every penny
Excellent food and friendly service, owner came out and went above and beyond
They could use more help in the hostess’ stand when welcoming and seating guests. It was a bit chaotic and stressful there. But the food was very good!
