La Grotta Ravinia is an Italian restaurant in Atlanta. It has been serving authentic Italian meals to the city since 1978 and it offers an elegant and intimate ambiance and views of a courtyard garden from the dining room. The kitchen at La Grotta Ravinia uses only the freshest ingredients in its dishes and strives to make hearty rustic meals from scratch.
Start your meal at La Grotta Ravinia with some cold antipasti, such as the classic beef Carpaccio or shaved prosciutto with melon. If youre looking for something warm to start, try the seared calamari or sauted snails. Larger dishes range from handmade pastas to seafood specialties like Dover sole and pan-roasted fish.
Was a busy night. Short-staffed meant everything took longer. Had to repeat request for a tea. Music was very nice and food was excellent.
Apatizers were ok. Nothing to write home about. The risotto was salty and served in a pond of sauce rather than being moist. Veal was good.
The tiramisu was good.
We were a party of 5. At such price I expect higher level of cooking.
My experience at La Grotta was fantastic! The ambiance was very laid back and the servers were super friendly. I requested a seat by the window when I made my reservation and they gave me just that! Customer service is very important when it comes to a restaurant and I would like to say they did their very best! Exceptional service and food!!
Sad to say this location is closing today...great food great service will be missed in Dunwoody!
My wife and I were prior customers and loved the restaurant's food and the service was great. Overall we had a wonderful experience and would gladly return, unfortunately they are closing the Ravinia location.
This is our favorite restaurant in town for a romantic dinner.
Food was good not great, a bit overpriced in my opinion and the drinks were served in very small glasses.
If you are expecting la Grotta buckhead type quality, wait it out and get a reservation there. Food was mediocre at best. The chicken parm was ok, but it is hard to mess that up. I sent my entree back. Gnocchi was disgusting and was not traditional gnocchi. It was more like gritty cakes that were burned. Shrimp was overlooked and fishy. Frutti de mare had sandy scallops and sauce was underwhelming. The ambiance is very nice and so was the waiter. Wine list is better at 9 out of 10 other restaurants. We eat out a lot and I would never recommend this place to anyone.
Great food and great view of the restaurant.. I wish I could say the same thing for our service.
Three out of four entrees were good. One was poor.( the braised beef.) Awful texture. none were outstanding.
Restaurant also refused to substitute pasta for potatoes for our one diner who medically cannot have potatoes.
Unreasonable.
Waiter, a gentleman from Peru, left us hanging several times during the evening. Not very attentive.
We have dined here many times before and never encountered a problem. This evening was really not great.
Disapointing.
The wait staff were all very nice, attentive and quick. We went for an occasion but also to try a new place during Dunwoody Restaurant week. Everything was good but not spectacular. The salmon was the best dish. Would love to see more creativity in their dishes. All pretty basic dishes. Very good wine. Great setting overlooking a natural area and a lovely place to go for a stroll after dinner.
We have lived 3 miles from the restaurant for many years and kept saying we were going to try it. We went to dinner for a 20th anniversary and the setting and the food were outstanding for the price. We will definitely go back.
Solid but ambiance lacks like ptree location
I hadn't been to this restaurant in at least 20 years (we had moved to Vegas) so was delighted to find that it was still around and the food still really good. I took my boss and a client and we had a nice window view of the bridge and foliage. The restaurant was more quiet than what you get in most restaurants these days which allowed all guests to actually have a conversation. the wait staff was attentive without being annoying and did not rush us at all. The food was delicious and everyone seemed really happy with their appetizers, main courses and desserts. I would definitely go back!
Overall the food and service were excellent . The only glitz was a 30 min wait past our reservation. The matron'd could not explain and did nothing to help us out. Finally the waiter acknowledged and lightened the air with some humor plus free desert.
It was a nice Mother's Day indeed!
Mother day buffet menu was limited and the service was terrible and the traffic flow tot he buffet was much to crowded. I'd suggest ditching the buffet idea . . .the dining room just isn't set up well fro it
Went to Mother's Day Brunch Buffet. Was over charged by 1 person, not enough variety, very crowded. Cocktails were nothing special. Will go somewhere different next time.
We looked forward to our first time at this restaurant, but were disappointed to find the food to be just ok and the service to be lacking. The table we were given by the window had a most fantastic view, but upon being seated we were not offered a wine list or menu. My husband had to find a manager to get a wine card and order drinks. Not what we expected for fine dining on a special day.
Overall most of the food was very flavorful. With one exception all hot food was hot and cold food cold. We went for Mother’s Day brunch, and while I thought it was a bit pricey, most special days are. They should have stuck to what they know, Italian food. Everything tasty except the pancakes. The pancakes had no flavor and cold. Not to worry as this was not my first choice off the buffet, but the kids were disappointed.
Always great
We have always enjoyed the original Buckhead LaGrotta and haven't been to the one at Ravinia for many years. What a mistake! With traffic getting worse by the day in Atlanta we needed to find a replacement nearby. Although there were a couple of large events taking place on that Saturday night, self parking underneath was no problem at all, especially nice since I almost always eschew valet parking. The caeser salad was the best we've had in a long time and both our veal entrees were wonderful. Service was friendly and plentiful, and the sommelier Eric was outstanding. If you live in the NE quarter of town there is no reason not to go here for some great Italian food...and the view into the Ravinia garden/woods area is spectacular, definitely not the typical restaurant view.
Food & Wait Staff was wonderful, as usual. Even though we only visit about once a year, with a friend from out of town, we always have awesome service, the wait staff remembers us & our choice of wines, along with food. (who does that now days??)
La Grotta Ravinia is a beautiful restaurant with great food and great service. It made for a truly memorable marriage dinner with 4 people and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants delicious food, a romantic setting, and great service.
Food was great, menu had a very good selection. Wait staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Very good experience for us.
We have been dining here for years and always enjoy it. Love the view and warm service.
We have been dining at La Grotta for over 20 years and never a disappointment in any way. We will eat veal ONLY at La Grotta because it is so tender and tasty. No one else comes close. Always a warm welcome and special surprises for our special occasions. Our favorite restaurant. Beautiful views of their private park with woods and gardens.
The food was excellent As well the service.. Our server great too...
Unfortunately we were the only party in the restaurant on a Friday night from 7:30-9:30pm. Very sad. Has always been one of our favorite restaurants for fancy, important occasions. Food was not as good as usual.
My spouse & I enjoyed a nice, quiet early evening dinner at La Grotta, Ravinia. We'd shared a similar experience at their Peachtree Road site some years ago, and were delighted to learn of the Ravinia location since we were re-visiting Atlanta & were lodging in the Dunwoody area (plus it was raining!). Food was excellent, rivaled only by the attentive staff & overall ambiance! I highly recommend any of their veal dishes- both of our menu choices were superbly prepared & presented!
A great value - food was excellent as it has been for 10+ years I have been going here
I took my wife to La Grotta for Valentine's Day because it was highly recommended by one of my co-workers. However, I regret to say that I was disappointed. This is not a knock on the wait staff or management, as they were very friendly and attentive. However, the food left much to be desired. Although, I did enjoy the bread and my appetizer (crab cake), the salmon entrée was a not up to par as it was overcooked and lacked flavor. Considering this was the main course and the amount of money I spent, I expected much more. My wife had a similar experience with her entrée, but I think she enjoyed hers slightly better than I did. The deserts were pretty good, but they did not knock my socks off. The only reason I gave this two stars is because of the service and ambiance, and I was disappointed that the food didn't at least match those two categories in quality.
Food was average. Service was unacceptable. The food and service at La Grotta Ravina is unacceptable. In contrast, La Grotta Bulkhead is EXCELLENT.
The ambiance was amazing, though my inner foodie was underwhelmed by my rather bland chicken piccatta. The fingerling potatoes and bread service were also "rock garden" hard in nature. The crab cake, romantic setting and service were indeed the highlights.
We went the evening before Valentine's Day. The website said nothing about a special Valentine's Day menu, which would not have been an issue, but they were unwilling to accommodate any items from the normal menu. They were understaffed, which resulted in one waiter looking after a slew of tables. We ended up being there for approximately 3 hours. The food was unimpressive to say the least, especially for the exorbitant cost. I would not recommend going here, and would instead try the other Italian restaurants in the city.
Very disappointing after such good experiences at the original La Grotta. Both the food and the service were mediocre, the wine list is hardly befitting an upscale Italian restaurant and the waiter knew nothing about available single malt scotches.
La Grotta, a longtime favorite was not up to its usual level, all 5s. This evening, a holiday evening, we were forced to order for a fixed price menu with a smaller number of entrees. The appetizers were a longtime being served and the not served at the correct temperature (soup warm, not hot). The entrees were delicious and correct temperature. Desserts were dry and underwhelming. We will rethink holiday dining
This was our first time at La Grotta AND it was Valentine's Day weekend. We dined early and the restaurant was not full, so we expected more. Our server did not even introduce himself and it took forever to bring our bottle of wine. The veal Marsala was different from any we'd had before--sauce did not have that "Marsala" flavor. The lemon ricotta cheesecake was very good. Creme brûlée was good, not exceptional. We may give the place a second try...
Everything here was fantastic!
Came in just before closing. Wait staff would have preferred we didn't stop in. Food was good though.
