La Grotta is tucked away in the heart of the Buckhead residential district and overlooks the lush gardens of the condo courtyard in which it is located. La Grotta literally means "the cave" in Italian and was named such for its cavernous and warm setting. The La Grotta staff is also well known and regarded for its vast knowledge of its customers, the food, diverse knowledge of languages (our staff speaks Italian, Spanish, French & German) and attention to detail. The menu specializes in Northern Italian cuisine with seasonal changes to reflect freshness of ingredients with a focus on locally grown produce.
Ambiance, service and food were all outstanding. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
This restaurant has been around for 40 years - we have gone off and on over those 40 years and the high standard has never slipped. The atmosphere is lovely, warm and welcoming without being pretentious. Very high quality ingredients prepared to showcase the food. Never disappoints
Well prepared food. Wine list way too expensive.
My overall experience was disappointing. My reservation was for 8:45pm and I had to wait for 30 minutes before I could get a table. After I got a table I had to wait quite some time again for my order to be taken. Based on their website I expected a more culinary 'high end' experience but the risotto, though very expensive, did not meet my expectations. The salad was alright and the bread was good. My ice cream was served in a very plain way, again, it makes no difference to the taste but in a restaurant that claims to be that classy? I was warned that the ambiance would be quite 'lively' which proved to be true. In fact it was very loud, so loud that I could hardly understand the waiters. They were polite by the way.
The valet service was quick so no complaints there!
All in all I don't think I will visit La Grotta again.
Very noisy, yet nice and confortable!
Excellent and efficient waiters. Prompt service.
We had a reservation at 8:45pm, arrived on time but had to wait for our table over 20mn without any explanation or apologies!
Too bad as the food, service and waiters were excellent!
We spent our 10th anniversary at La Grotta. Great people, wonderful food. Staff was amazing. Juiliana was our waiter and picked our food for us. Amazing. My wife is a huge fan of quaint throwback Italian place and she was blown away! Smiled for days. We had our kids with us (8 and 9) and they were really kind and accommodating. The kids actually behaved and enjoyed the experience. Met the owner and family. We will definitely be going back soon.
An Atlanta classic that never disappoints! Best risotto in town and the martinis are perfection- perfect place for a special occasion or date.
La Grotta was perfect for my birthday! Food was wonderful. We both had a special starter...tomatoes, mozzarella cheese with prosciutto. I had the veal scallopini with mushrooms and marsala sauce. My husband had their beef tenderloin dish. Both were excellent! We split a bottle of Amarone. They have an extensive wine list that would be sure to offer something special for every guest. Service was top-notch. We would definitely recommend and will return.
Danny our waiter was spectacular
As always a job well done
Simply one of the best restaurants in Atlanta. Ambience is lovely and you can actually have a conversation at your table. Service is outstanding (shout out to Juliano, my favorite) and the food is always expertly prepared. Try the Dover Sole, or duck breast or any of their housemade pastas. This is one of my go to restaurants and I have been going there since 1999. Love the place
We had such a wonderful dinner.
Walter and Billy were personable and guided us through the menu with ease. Walter suggested a Riesling which went well with my whole meal. Billy recommended the stuffed quail when I inquired which of two would he suggest. Dessert was panna cotta for myself and ricotta cheesecake for my husband.
The ambiance and soft jazz playing in the background was such that I felt taken away from the workaday world which was especially a treat since today is my birthday.
We celebrate my wife's birthday every year at this restaurant. It's the closest food we've found compared to eating in Italy.
I was very excited for this restaurant. We had just returned from living in Italy a year ago and wanted a little reminder of our previous “home”. The menu and wine list was very promising. But the waiter left me with a bad taste in my mouth. We asked him for a red wine recommendation and told him what we intended to order for dinner. He briefly asked us what our preferences were and then promptly pointed out a bottle of wine without asking a price range. The bottle was $130 and a blend of 4 wines. The next was a $180 bottle of 3 blends. we had intended to pick a bottle we wanted, something special or different perhaps. We would have spent more than the prices he listed if we truly wanted the wine. But for the waiter to simply start off there? I feel it wasn’t professional. I pointed out a region I liked, the wines were much cheaper and I wanted to see if anything would change if that’s what I picked. Sure enough, I felt we weren’t given as much attention. Granted the room had lots of groups so perhaps that was why. There were two other waiters who made up for it. I wish I had gotten their names but they were working the evening of January 5th. They helped us with dessert options and drinks. Always filled our water. We were thankful to have such nice guys keep an eye on our table. The special appetizer was amazing. Asparagus with crab and hollandaise sauce. I had a caprese salad. My husband ordered the duck and loved it. I ordered the salmon but it was okay. Cooked nicely but lacked any true flavoring. The dessert and dessert wine options were nice and a good variety.
Everything exceeded our expectations. Although a bit noisy, the size and ambiance made up. Service was very attentive. The food is great too. The caesar salad is great. We enjoyed veal parmigiana and a veal chop with white truffles. Both wonderful. Both the crepe brûlée and tiramisu were delicious. Tiramisu is a house specialty and we can see why- try it for sure! And our cappuccino was very hot, just the way I like it as well. Highly recommend!
Wonderful food and service! We were celebrating a birthday which they recognized.z
Great service. Very tasty food.
We were here for our anniversary and had a marvelous meal and wine.
Absolutely nice setting and amazing food. The waiters were a bit pushy for my taste.
The food was absolutely delicious and our server, Bill knew his stuff! I trusted him with my wine selection and although it wasn’t quite right the first time, he made it right. He made sure we had enough information on menu items which in turn helped us make the best decisions on what to order...even though I would say he pretty much figured our order out for us haha. Amazing wine selection, the dishes got better and better as we transitioned from appetizers to our entrees. Wish I had something to say about dessert but we had no room, couldn’t even think about taking another bite! Enjoy guys.
I was never fond of eating in the basement, but, that being said, the ambience, other than the dishabille of the clientele, was excellent.
Service, by a seasoned pro, was impeccable, and the food reliably good.
My reservation was for a later time, but (because it was a special occasion), they accommodated us at an earlier time. As always, the service and food were spectacular. The Beggars Purses and lamb were exceptional! This special place will forever be on the top of my list!
Chef did a great job to accommodate vegetarians
If you’re looking for a fancy dinner out with a small group of friends or a significant other, this place is amazing. It’s a small restaurant that’s been around for around 40 years with great food and a huge wine list. Highly reccomended for people who know and love their wine! I had their grilled duck in a reduced balsamic sauce with vegetables (pictured) and I loved it. Everyone else in my party of 6 enjoyed their food as well. Great service too!
Make a reservation by phone vs via internet was kind of problematic. Excellent service attention. As Italian I was excepting more pasta variety.
Birthday dinner for my wife was outstanding. The staff is awesome and the food is incredible!
It's always such a treat to enjoy a meal here. Food was delicious and substantial. Service was crisp, attentive and expert. Wine list was robust but not intimidating. All around, a delightfully authentic, old school dining experience.
Several in our group of 5 stated it was the best Italian food they had ever eaten. Growing up in San Francisco, I could not argue with their assessment. Both the Beef and Tuna Carpaccio were very good and my wife raved over the Escargot. My Scaloppine Di Vitello Antonio was like something from my youth. Having "Einstein" as our waiter help take the evening over the top.
Holiday celebration. Amazing experience.
Dinner was excellent! Billy and his wait staff were terrific. We felt like VIPs. Always a great choice for dining out. An experience to remember.
La Grotta is or special place for celebrating special occasions. It never disappoints us. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staff are the best!
Went for my husband’s birthday with a group of 11. The service was impeccable. Never a moment did we want for a thing. Our waiter Billy and his team made our night even more enjoyable. Our food was absolutely incredible. We came for the alba white truffles and were not disappointed. The sachetti is DIVINE. We are going back this week. Our new favorite restaurant.
Loooooove EVERY MOMENT THAT IVE EVER HAD AT LA GROTTA
Best Italian restaurant in the city! Don’t skip the Saccheti!
We had wanted to go to La Grotta for a long time. Finally, for our anniversary we made the trip from the burbs into Buckhead. We were not disappointed. We had a truly memorable evening. The food was outstanding. I had a veal chop with truffles. My wife had a scallopini with wild mushrooms. The staff made us feel so welcomed. What a gem of a restaurant.
Still probably the best restaurant in Atlanta. Fantastic food with great staff. They accommodate any reasonable request you may have and the food is consistently excellent and has been for almost 40 years. a truly wonderful dinning experience with world class food.
Enjoyed a wonderful evening celebrating my wife’s birthday. The food was excellent and the plate presentation was beautiful. The Chef stopped by our table and thanked us for choosing La Grotta for this festive occasion. We will return again soon. WilliamH
The food here is excellent but the noise level is so high that it is difficult to have a conversation.
The food and service were excellent. I have dined there several times and have found this to always be true. One of my very favorite restaurants!
The calamari app and the veal scalloping a la grotta were not the best this time.
I love to take friends to La Grotta. Very consistent...Great service...terrific food.
