La Griglia Ratings and Reviews
I was in New Jersey this past weekend. I finally had the opportunity to dine at La Griglia. From the moment we arrived we were met with the valet. We entered and were asked if we wanted to check our coats, which was funny to me coming form South Florida.
We went to the bar, and were greeted by two happy well prepared bar tenders. I ordered a vodka gimlet, and my sister a very dirty martini. My gimlet was prepared with fresh lime juice and a splashed of roses limes juice. This happens to be one of the best gimlets I have every had. The martini was exactly made as asked.
We went to the dining rooms where our servers introduced themselves to us. They were always available to us but not in our faces. I must say, the bread service was worth every single calorie.
We started with a purple and golden beet salad, then ordered the swordfish while my sister had with risotto. Veal Osso Buco was fall off the bone tender, and her risotto was amazing. I thought it was great, and I usually dislike risotto.
All I would like to say, is thank you Steven for making our evening so delightful, and when I am in New Jersey again, I will definitely have dinner in Kenilworth again.
Restaurant called to confirm reservations and I mentioned that I did NOT want to sit upstairs. Had two drinks at the bar and then the hostess sat us upstairs! I’m not one to complain but it did not look like there was any reason we could not have sat downstairs.
Walter the waiter introduced himself, never asked us if we wanted a drink, never came back to our table until I called him over after 20 mins. He did the same again after dinner. Not very pleasant to us. The bus service interrupted my conversation constantly to fill my water. Previous occasions, very pleasant.
At LG no matter what you order on the menu you will not be disappointed. My favorite is the Dover Sole and the bone in filet. LG is know for their signature crab cakes, which are rich and broiled to perfection. They are a must try item. The endive salad is splendid, if you like Gorgonzola, a creamy Dijon dressing and candied walnuts. Sometimes they offer unusual options like marinated Blowfish tails. We were adventurous and tried them, but my preference is still chilled oysters. La Griglia has a vast wine selection, offering options by the bottle, quortina and glass.
Best meal and value in years. $24 Prix Fixe menu is extensive. Short Ribs, Red Snapper, Salmon, Swordfish Caesar were a few of the choices. Cabernet bottle was one of the special wines at $30 and was terrific. Service was impeccable. Valet parking provided. They have it down and provide a great business lunch.
The service was superior. The food was quite good.
Though we booked through Open Table, the restaurant could not find our reservation, though they were quick to seat us anyway. Later that evening Open Table sent me an email asking why we had not shown up. Clearly a small glitch.
Great wine list with many Napa and Italian wines. Food and service spot on with wait staff ever present to keep water and wine glasses replenished. We always enjoy the Dover Sole and Mediterranean Branzino, but do not pass up the bone in filet with potato galette. LG is known for their broiled crab cakes( appetizer) which you must try at least once. Always a great meal with thoughtful service!
The food was beyond incredible; the drinks were phenomenal; and the service was outrageously good. I came for my birthday with my family, my fiancé, and his family -- it was a big moment and this restaurant rose to the occasion. Seriously, this place is so fabulous I can't say enough. VERY fine dining right in Kenilworth. Worth every penny.
The lunch was excellent. We had had the fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and fresh basil as an appetizer. It was out of this world. I Had the short ribs which were sweet, tender and full of flavor. The salad my friend had was large and quite tasty he said. The service by Chris our waiter was top notch and very attentive. I would highly recommend dinning here again.
Very enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere. A nice menu, very good variety and specials. I did order a pasta dish and sadly the chef forgot to put the broccoli rabe in, but it was great and I didn't realize it until I left. I will go back and I'm sure they will be eager to take care of me as was evident by everyone's politeness and enthusiasm during our meal.
Disappointing. Stale rolls, 3 tiny pieces of butter for 4 diners, tuna tartar that was warm, mushy and flavorless, the 2 smallest soft shell crabs I have ever seen. Do I have to go on?
This used to be my go to place to meet friends from north Jersey. No more. What happened to this once wonderful restaurant? Maybe the tired decor has rubbed off on the kitchen ( or management )? Too bad.
Our dining experience at La Griglia is always top notch. From the moment we are seated we are treated like family. The service is very thoughtful and the wait staff is always at hand to assist with any request. We had our usual oysters and seafood salad followed by endive and Caesar salads salads. The portions are plentiful and seasoned well. Entrees were bone in filet mignon, Dover sole and soft shell crab. Every dish was excellently prepared and beautifully presented. Our evening was so enjoyable and that is why we continue to dine at La Griglia.
A wonderful seafood salad and endive salad to start, both chilled and seasoned to perfection. Entrees were soft shell crab over sauteed spinach with a beurre blanc sauce and a grilled bronzino Mediterranean style. Each entree was presented nicely and each had wonderful flavors. We shared a pistachio dessert special with coffee and cappuccino. The service was very thoughtful, with water and wine glasses filled, the table crumbed, and empty dishes taken away in a timely fashion. I have an aversion to sitting in front of empty plates for any length of time. This does not occur at LG. Staff honors special requests with in reason and the wait staff and management are always seen tending to the patrons. Always a relaxed dining experience.
Had the crab stuffed zucchini blossoms and the beet salad. Delicious. My husband had the prix fix menu. Stuffed mushrooms, pork chops with hot pepper and creme brûlée. Delectable! Great dirty martini with Gorgonzola stuffed olives. Always a great meal and service!
Waitress is aggressive, rough on the edges.
Suppa de peche order came without pasta and
When pasta was asked- pasta came too late!
On the way out, saw a table with order of same dish with pasta-
Waitress aggressively said - I should have asked for pasta when I placed the order.
Her attitude left a bad taste in the mouth- my husband took care of the bill and was good in the tip after all. I would have done it differently.
