Finest French restaurant in the country!
La Grenouille is one of the great restaurants of New York City, old school French, a throwback to more elegant days. But old school doesn't mean heavy. The food here is, simply, divine: light, beautiful to look at, bursting with flavor. And it is served impeccably, in a room so festooned with gorgeous bouquets and huge vases of flowers that you'd think every day was Spring, or maybe full lush summer. To eat here is to experience heaven. There is no compare that I can think of. You must not miss the experience. But please--the food is elegant, the staff is elegant, the room is elegant; dress accordingly! Make your presence the equal of the experience.
Luxurious room, classic décor and menu and impeccable service. A treat in every way.
Great French culinary experience. I highly recommend.
La Grenouille must be one of the most beautiful restaurants in New York City. The flowers are deserving of the accolades received from its inception and the service incredibly warm and efficient. Food is of course perfect in the french style. Certainly an uplifting experience in these troubling times - as long as diners check out cost beforehand.
Dining at La Grenouille is very special because of the elegant, yet warm environment, made so by the mellow lighting, magnificent flower arrangements and wonderful food. The staff is pleasant and gracious. It all adds up to a pleasant dining experience.
All aspects: service, food, ambiance and cocktails were impeccable!
Long time favorite
In my top three of all nyc restaurants
One of the most beautiful dining rooms in NYC and near perfect professional attentive service except the food is not outstanding.
Quenelles were leaden and tasteless. Rest of meal was good but not outstanding.
This beautiful, almost magical restaurant was a highlight of our trip. Each course was phenomenal. We couldn’t choose our favorite. We were extremely impressed and can’t wait to return. It was very apparent that the restaurant is well run with extreme professionalism and attention to detail.
THE WAITERS & THE SERVICE, APPETIZERS, DESSERTS, AMBIENCE, THE ROOM & FLOWERS WERE ALL SUPERB. HOWEVER, THE ENTREES WERE TOTALLY MEDIOCRE AND DISAPPOINTING.
MY BEEF BOURGUIGNON WAS JUST OK.
MY FRIEND'S BOUILLABAISSE WAS A JOKE. WHEN IT APPEARED WE WERE BOTH SHOCKED!!!.......IT REALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN SENT BACK TO THE KITCHEN FOR SOMETHING ELSE.
IT CONSISTED OF ONE SMALL SHRIMP, ONE SEA SCALLOP, AN OVERCOOKED 2 OZ. PIECE OF SALMON, AND ANOTHER SMALL PIECE OF SOME KIND OF FISH.........PLOPPED ON TOP OF A FEW GRAINS OF RICE AND SOME SAUCE. NO CLAMS, MUSSELS, SQUID, ETC.........ALL CHEAP SEAFOOD ITEMS. LOBSTER???? FORGET ABOUT IT!!!! WILL NEVER HAPPEN HERE. WE THOUGHT WE HAD MISTAKENLY BEEN GIVEN AN APPETIZER PORTION BUT OUR WAITER SAID IT WAS NOT SO. AS A LONGTIME FISH DEALER MYSELF, I'M PARTICULAR ABOUT MY FISH.........BUT THIS WAS JUST A BAD PERFORMANCE. ALL OF THE ITEMS THEY USE IN THE DISH ARE NOT EXPENSIVE. SHRIMP IS NOW CHEAP. SO IS SALMON. THE SCALLOPS THEY USED WERE THE ONES THAT ARE SOAKED WITH PRESERVATIVES SO THEY HAVE THE CONSISTENCY OF WALLPAPER PASTE. THEY NEED TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE SEAFOOD QUALITY AND GIVE A LITTLE MORE ON THE PLATE. IS ANOTHER DOLLAR OR TWO IN THE FOOD COST GOING TO BREAK THEM??
BUT TO BE FAIR.......THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT. THE APPETIZERS & BREAD WERE VERY GOOD.
THE DESSERTS WERE EXCELLENT AS WELL. IT'S JUST THAT SOMETHING HAPPENED MID-STREAM WHICH WAS A DOWNER. WE PROBABLY WON'T BE BACK UNFORTUNATELY.
We celebrated our Anniversary . We have traveled extensively in France and wanted luxurious country inn ambiance so we chose upstairs near the fireplace. Pierre was very helpful with the wine selection. Roger was perfect with our food choices. All together a memorable experience.
Excellent classic French food with very good service, but extremely expensive and probably not worth the price. Our dinner for two, with a $120 bottle of Chablis [most of the wines are much more expensive] and tip was $640.
It’s only happen once before in my life but when it happens I know it quite well. Actions by the manager lead me to believe me and my wife (Chinese descent) was discriminated against. Other than the food was marvelous
The food is amazing and the service is impeccable. Frog legs, the beef, lobster ravioli, and pistachio soufflé were better than some of the top Paris restaurants. Wine list has a lot of gems. 5 stars.
I met my husband in 1990 at La Grenouille
I not only adore Philippe , I knew his mother
the personal touch is what I appreciate most !
its consistant by far the BEST restaurant in MANHATTAN
Dr Asbell and wife Greta Welkhammer
Prices notwithstanding, this place ranks between acceptable and below standards. Throw prices into the equation and this place will live in my lore as the worst ripoff in the dining world. If you feel you’re getting $188 per person worth of value here you haven’t been out much. The canapés are at best ordinary and tiny, the pate was good. My wife had borscht, which was ok. I had cold oysters gratine. I ate 2, returned the plate. They microwaved the lot and gave it back, minus one oyster (presumably because they had to do their own quality control). My wife had ok chicken, and I had 5 frog legs. 4 minuscule pieces of cheese that they serve while pronouncing with a French accent et voila! $188 thank you very much. If that wasn’t enough the servers are snooty (except a few, who shall remain nameless in case they get fired for making everyone else look worse than they are, if that’s at all possible. As a favorite dish, je suggère the exit door a la Provençale. Get over yourselves folks. #pretentious
Look forward to this wonderful experience every year !
This is our favorite restaurant in NYC. Great service, great food and romantic atmosphere.
Such a great place! Great service and food
Impeccable service and delicious food. Loud enough to be private, quiet enough to hear your companion. Wonderful experience.
The last amazing haute cuisine French restaurant. The last oasis in New York where people dress up for dinner, where the food and flowers and ambiance is perfect for the special celebration. Hope that it will stay in business for a long time
Food was not what it has been in the past.
Decor: just stunning! It really is as beautiful in person as in the pictures. During the holiday season, this is especially welcoming. The flowers, the colors, the lighting: all just perfect!
The food was also very good! No complaints there at all. This is very classic cuisine done well. For the $188 price tag, it would have been nice to have had a table-side cheese cart with options to choose from rather than pre-selected cheeses just put in front of you. That said, they were still quite good if a bit less daring than my dining partner would have selected from cart options.
One complaint is about the wine service. When I asked to see a list of wines by the glass the server quizzed me endlessly about wines we like. Maybe he was just trying to be helpful but I know wine and I really wanted to see the list so that I could chart my own progression from that list or, alternatively, assess whether to purchase a bottle from the outset. Still, I got strong-armed into a French burgundy to start without seeing a list. It was delicious but when I learned that it was the most expensive glass available it felt coerced. We finally procured an actual list when our main courses came but, by then, it was too late to consider a bottle. The options by the glass were ultimately terrific but, next time, just bring the list when asked at the outset!
Other than that, again, we just loved the restaurant and the scenery and food. I tipped well and would definitely go back again for a special or festive occasion.
As much as I hate to broadcast it, always a wonderful experience to dine at La Grenouille.
Wonderful experience and food
The price was pricey and a little too high. I didn't know about the two different kinds of tips for waiter and captain. That wasn't informed ahead of time. However, the food was spectacular and it had the right amount of the portion. I love the wine!
La Grenouille has been a New York "mainstay" for decades. Everything is excellent.
We have written a positive comprehensive review on TripAdvisor.
In brief we really enjoyed the total experience.
Even though I put on the reservation request that was for our 18 wedding anniversary, no acknowledgement whatsoever, even asked me twice for the name on the reservation, some regulars don't like to be seated upstairs and made it clear, cannot mingle with the rest .... service slow, food nothing really special, dessert better, too much sweets and very little food, aside from the baguette.
Always reliable. I hope they never close or change what they do so well. Classic without being stuffy. Such a joy to come here.
Very difficult to get waiter’s attention. Very disappointing
I wasn’t blown away by the food (my chicken was actually quite dry), especially considering the price, but the ambiance and service was wonderful.
Absolutely excellent food and service! Highly recommend!
Still a spectacular experience to be savored all year.
Yes, a throwback to a more refined time, but elegant, beautiful and delightful.
A beautiful experience! A delightful meal from beginning to end.
Absolute perfection. Looking forward to another wonderful 58 years
Exceptional Old World Service. Cuisine and Wine Exquisite. Outstanding in Every Way! The perfect spot to celebrate the Holidays! ❤️🥂🎁🎅🌲
Excellent old school French resturant. Impeccable service and food. Great ambiance with a lovely working fireplace upstairs. A pleasant surprise in today’s restaurants, you can both talk and be heard without overhearing others. Rare in today Restsurant world. Le Grenouille is a classic.
