They were very helpful and receptive for our party of 10. Food was good, not great, but clearly a food value in the neighborhood. The pasta was fresh and the small plates wonderful.

Food is consistently good but not worth having to wear my coat while eating because no one would close the outside door when the temperature was in the teens.

Don't know if owners or chef changed but very disappointing. Had to send bottle of wine back as well as one entree which was prepared wrong. Chicken parmesan was basically a chicken nugget with tomato sauce and service was very poor. Used to come often but not likely to return.

I was skeptical when we foud this place at 8pm during the holiday season and they had plenty of tables available. But the pasta was homemade and delicious. They offered 5 small plates for $39 but the "small" plates were huge. We especially enjoyed the calamari, meatballs, salmon, spinach and the Tagliatelli Bolognese.

I ordered the lamb shank and my husband ordered the chicken parmesan. His pasta was way overcooked so it was like eating mushy noodles, and the chicken had no flavor. The lamb shank was okay, but needed more flavor. The meat was falling off the bone like it should but it could've used more salt or something. It was definitely much tastier than the chicken parm though.

My girlfriends and I have been coming here every couple of months for a few years now for brunch and dinner and the food is always amazing. This past time it wasn't very busy so the manager (?) came over a few times but it was almost inconvenient and obnoxious, as well as one would think with it not being busy that the service would be great but it was a bit awkward and we had to ask for a few things more than once. I would definitely go back still because it is very easy for my girls and I to meet there but this particular visit was subpar. Again, food was amazing- just a strange atmosphere.

Excellent service. Friendly owner. Good prices. Food is high quality, good portion sizes and delicious. Not a high end restaurant but a great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews of this place. I've eaten here 4x in the past 2 months and have only had great experiences. I'm becoming a regular. Also Love their Sangria deals, as the Sangria is delicious too.

Restaurant staff tried hard to make dinner an enjoyable experience (the host/manager was particularly sweet and accommodating), but effort just can't overcome bad food. There are way too many inexpensive and tasty Italian restaurants in NYC to bother trying La Giara again.

A delightful dining experience, starting with an Aperol Spritz, a popular Italian cocktail, which brought back happy memories of a recent tour in the Vicenza region. I tried a trio of artisanal sausages, which turned out to be a very new feature. It's a winner. I had a wild boar, a lamb, and a "toulouse," which turns out to be a French pork sausage. I sampled just enough of my wife's roasted pear to recommend it highly. To close the meal, an assortment of crunchy Italian cookies came with a little pot of warm chocolate. What a great touch! To make the meal all the more pleasant, we had a charming chat with one of the owners. We were well-fed, well-tended, and unhurried. A fine night out, and we will be back.

I've been to this location for brunch many times & it's never a let down! I was at first disappointed that they were offering sangria instead of mimosas for the unlimited brunch, but I have to say that the sangria was great & a nice change from the typical mimosa at every other brunch location. They let us stay for hours & kept filling our glasses because they saw we were having a "great conversation". The food was absolutely delicious as well. I'll be back!

The reason I picked this restaurant was to make my own bloody mary. Most places the mix is pre-made and it is too spicy. Here they give you a glass with ice and vodka. I asked for Grey Goose so it wasn't bottomless. Then you are given a bucket with all of the essentials to complete your drink. I would go back. They even made me something for brunch that is no longer on the menu.

I've been to LA Giara before and the food and prices never disappoint. On this occasion, though, the service was dreadful and the waitress heavily pushed a wine that was past its due and full of sediment. It wouldn't stop me from going back, but being more mindful!

When we arrived on-time for our 8:00 reservation, the area of the restaurant around the front door was packed with a slew of people standing around waiting for tables. When the host brought us to a table in the middle of this mob, I asked if we could be seated in a quieter section where there were two adjacent tables-for-two that could easily have been pushed together to accommodate us. The host refused, saying that he had to save those tables for parties of two. So we left and went next door to Cafe Cinema, where we had a very nice meal. We will not be back to La Giara.

Fresh food, great service and always an excellent meal. I try to get to La Giara once every few months when I'm in NYC. I live in SF and always crave an authentic Italian meal. La Giara always delivers! The pasta is made fresh daily, there's always a fresh fish on the menu and a great meat dish. It's a comfortable place to dine alone, with your family or a small party. They also deliver in the neighborhood.

Came here for the 'bottomelss brunch', and they were very good about refilling my bloody mary- but after the first sip I knew it wouldn't pack a punch. Plus I think it is just tomato juice. When I asked for tobasco they gave me a big bucket of bloody mary seasoning- old bay, pepper, salt, horseradish, etc which was fun- but tiresome after the 3rd time. The food was good, and I really liked the wooden wine box wall accents

This place gets an overall score of 3 stars purely because it was a girls brunch! When the server came to take the order, on the menu one of the omelette options was "goat cheese, mushroom and spinach", another option was "tomato and mozzarella cheese." I asked the server if I could simply have an omelette with mozzarella and spinach. He told me the chef does not make anything that isn't on the menu. I then told him I would like the goat cheese, mushroom and spinach omelette with no mushrooms and please sub mozzarella. He told me no. I tried again, he said no again! Finally, I told him to ask the chef. The chef agreed to make my order! and did a good job! The AC was barely blowing cool air throughout the place, It was a little sticky.

I found that the staff were rude. My friend is a vegetarian and there were only 1 option in the omelette section, she kindly asks for no mushrooms and to just have tomato and Goats cheese, the water pointed and said order whats there on the menu, she explains that she is allergic to mushrooms and doesn't like spinach. He points again, and she kindly said, can you please go and ask the chef please, and he ignores her. We should have walked out, but we were starving and it was to celebrate my birthday as well. He finally heads back and by this time we had been waiting 20 mins for the order to be taken. Our food arrives 20 mins later. The bread basket you have was awful too, the bread was stale, and drinks were rarely filled. Poor service.

I was looking for a lower-key, inexpensive place to take my parents for dinner during a weeknight and La Giara was the perfect restaurant. We went on a wednesday night (made the open table reservation about 3 hours beforehand), and were pleasantly surprised! The ambiance is humble, feels homey and the food was delicious. Big portions, tasty sauces, and they served us great bruschetta and bread. Half-off bottles of wine on Wednesdays were a nice surprise as well. Note, there was a big party at the restaurant during our meal, and though it was a little loud, the servers and owner were very attentive, checking in on us every so often to make sure we weren't disturbed by the party. 5 stars for this service!

I had a longstanding reservation for 7 girlfriends for Sunday brunch at 11. No table was set for us. The place was empty and the music was blasting. I asked the waiter to lower the sound and he refused. Manager wasn't there and supposedly couldn't be reached. This made conversation difficult. The place eventually got busier and he lowered it a tiny bit. Food was decent, but nothing special. It was modestly priced, which was important. Note that while mimosas and bloody Mary's are $7.50 with unlimited refills, if you order one and switch to the other, you get charged again. Bread basket had some good choices. Bloody Mary bucket of fixin's made spicing to taste easy. I recommend looking elsewhere to find better service.

This is the second time I've been to La Giara, and I was satisfied with both visits. The staff is friendly, the food is affordable, and the music is great. The portions left me feeling comfortable. Brunch did not feel rushed at all because the staff gave us our space, but made themselves available to us when we needed assistance. I would recommend La Giara, especially for Sunday brunch.

We were a large group of 11. On the overall, La Giara was perfect for what we were looking for. The staff was attentive, the prices very good, the food was very good, & you can't go wrong w/free mimosa & bloody Mary refills. My only issues were my Belgian waffle, & the eggs of a friend's daughter. My Belgian waffle came as waffle pieces. Add to the fact that they served me a totally burned waffle on one side & tried to pass it off by serving it good side up. Don't you think people will wonder if they can't cut the waffle? A waffle like that should NEVER have been served. The eggs of another person were served in a small vessel & only eggs. nothing else. at least give toast & potatoes!
