Opened in 2001 La Garrigue is a 2 AA Rosettes French restaurant located just a stones throw away from Edinburgh's famous Royal Mile and minutes away from Waverley train station with stunning views of Calton Hill.
The restaurant is themed around the culinary specialities of the southern regions of France offering hearty dishes such as Roquefort Cheese Soufflé, Fish Soup, Traditional Cassoulet and using the best of local produces as well as French ones. Everything extremely tasty, attention to details, accompaniments all perfectly prepared and seasoned (the bread was excellent, although we hadn’t appreciated it was an extra charge). The soufflé was outstanding, magically light and proper cheese flavour. I enjoyed the hearty flavours of the cassoulet and my fellow diners raves about the vegetables with their fish. Highly recommended, I had not been for a long time, and it was as good, if not better than I remembered. A note to the exemplary service, friendly, efficient and well paced.

We enjoyed an excellent Valentine's Day meal during our visit to Edinburgh. All of the courses were of the best quality and the service was faultless. There was a good choice of wines by the glass and half carafe, which was perfect for the two of us.

Our "go to" place for a return to France. Morgan and Jean-Michel radiate pleasure in offering great French dishes, beautifully presented and, even better, just delicious. To be honest, if we lunch anywhere else in Edinburgh we wish we had obeyed our instincts and gone to La Garrigue. The staff change from time to time but (and I don't know how this done) they become Garrigue people very quickly. We count Morgan and Jean-Michel as friends, but that doesn't affect our judgment - where else would we lunch? Yesterday the celeriac soup was a great combination of taste and texture, with toasted hazel nuts. The venison osso bucco was balanced with polenta and as tender as I am. The wines are a speciality - we have been to some of the vineyards featured - we know the tales on the labels are true. Obviously, being French, the puddings are parfait. We will be back soon.

We chose this restaurant for lunch having been here before, we arrived early but were quickly shown to our table. We ordered two glasses of Kir which were lovely, not always the case in some places, for our starters we ordered the scallops and the vol au vent, both were delicious. Our mains arrived very quickly after our starters and to be honest, we felt a little rushed this time. However, the salmon filet and La Lotte, a monkfish casserole were superb, really tasty and good portions. For dessert we chose the Tarte Tatin and the chocolate mousse which were also excellent. They have a varied wine list, good value and with an interesting selection, I chose the Domain de L’Hortus white, delicious. Overall this is a fantastic restaurant serving delicious food and with polite, efficient service. Highly recommended but make sure you reserve a table as it is very popular, for good reason.

A French Bistro style restaurant with a south of France ambiance. Service was good and not too overly attentive. Wine menu is difficult to read though they do have reading glasses to borrow which aids the task considerably. The Arrogant Frog offerings are good value The food was excellent I would recommend the Roquefort soufflé.
