La Galleria 33 Ratings and Reviews
We waited 1.5 hours for our average tasting, overpriced North End dinner. The waitress never acknowledged our entrees taking an hour to arrive (two appetizers and a pasta), but bought my husband a glass of wine while I was in the bathroom.
The manager/hostess rolled her eyes at me as we were leaving and I asked to speak to her.
Having managed restaurants in NYC for many years, I was shocked she would be so rude before I said a word about the miserable service.
I understand being short staffed and overwhelmed and tables getting lost. I don't understand not speaking to the table to acknowledge the screw up and being rude when a 'guest' approaches the host/manager. She said she had no idea our order was lost, but open kitchens are very revealing, even if you've never worked in the industry.
I hope that if you read this you spend your money and time elsewhere.
Making customers feel like a nuisance at 8pm on a Saturday night is not a way to do business.
I wouldn't be writing a review if they were remotely professional or the food was amazing. No one said sorry, no one cared. This place is a mess.
Selected your restaurant due to the Gordon Ramsay show but mostly wanted to meet the two owners who seemed so authentic and determined. The fact that they are still opened is a tribute to their desire to succeed. The staff and food were fantastic and do not regret our selection. Came all the way from Québec City, Canada for this and would do it again in a flash.
We had a reservation, but our waiter wasn't all that interested in us when he learned we were ordering just a few small plates rather than larger more expensive entrees. He rushed us through taking our plates very quickly each time. Never asked if we wanted a second glass of wine. When we ordered dessert he didn't offer coffee or anything else other than the check. While we were putting on our coats, they were clearing the table. If you're looking for average food, rushed service and unfriendly wait staff then I suppose you'd like this place. I didn't and would not go back.
I chose this restaurant because my favorite pasta dish is cannelloni with white sauce and it was on their menu. Although the menu said white sauce and tomato sauce, I asked the waiter if the red sauce could be left off, and he said it was no problem. My order came and it was delicious! I also had a Caprese salad and it too was wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant!
The pasta was excellent, the bread was fresh and warm. The food came out relatively fast and it was cute and romantic. Relatively fairly priced for the North end. Centrally located, easy to get from one place to another, not far from north station. Everyone in my party greatly enjoyed their meal. Will be returning.
I have been to Galleria 33 many times however my recent experience has left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that I will never be going back there and will make sure to tell everyone that comes to visit me on Salem to NEVER visit this restaurant. I have never experienced such rude and bad service in my life. We gave our order for 3 pasta dishes then waited and waited... after an hour past we pulled out waiter aside to kindly ask what was the hold up and he VERY rudly in a nasty tone responded "I don't know what to tell you it's a Saturday (it was Friday)" then he just walked away from us. Note that he did not come back to check on us for a full hour. We all immediately got up and said we were leaving we explained the situation to 2 servers because no manager was working... not to sure why since it was a Friday night. Our server John kept coming over and staring at us rolling his eyes and making snark comments to our face. He then continued to give us a bill for $17, we gave him our card and when he returned we saw he charged us $36. WORST EXPERIENCE. Thank god for Ernesto's down the street, it's a pizza shop... they gave us 100 times better service than we would have gotten at Galleria and cost us a whole lot less to. My recommendation, never go. It will only cause a headache. Maybe if they fire John I will consider going back some day... probably not.
I have been an avid patron of La Galleria 33 for several years now. However, this was the first time I had been back to the restaurant in a year. I've always had great service and exceptional food...until my last visit. It seemed as if the place was in chaos. It took 25 minutes for our table to get water which was served in Sam Adams beer glasses. Our bread plates were so cracked and chipped that we could hardly use them. To top it off, the restaurant ran out of bread. I actually went next door to the bakery to buy a baguette for my table. While our waiter was nice, he was complete overworked and very stressed. We hardly saw him during our time there. The service was horrendous and it appears as if the place has definitely gone downhill. I won't be going back.
Food was delicious but service was not great. We got our appetizer quickly and our entrees were out in another 15 minutes. Far too quick. (At 8pm on Saturday night) We had to wait to eat our meal because they had run out of silverware and hadn't brought us any. We had to ask for bread and got it with the meal. The table next to us also had to ask for bread. Waiter barely checked on us but was very quick to bring our check and run our card. A nice meal but the service brought the experience down.
I heard about it from kitchen nightmares and I have to say it was some of the best food I've ever had the risotto was good and even the bread had this white bean sauce that was to die for totally would recommend to anyone.
Amazing dinner food! I had the seafood ravioli and both the ravioli and the sauce were delicious. I wanted to bottle up the sauce and bring it home. My husband got the lasagna, which he loved. It was a simple, basic lasagna but it made him happy. The two other people in our party ordered the chicken parm and raved about it. Again, simple but delicious. Came with a side of penne with sauce. Nothing was overly fancy, and I would say the cuisine was a bit "american" compared to some of the surrounding restaurants, but that is not something that we minded at all, and we enjoyed our experience very much. We would definitely go back.
Two things that we wished were different: many other restaurants on the street had open windows and doors, this restaurants was closed in. The bread that was brought out wasn't warm and there was no oil on the table to dip in. They did bring out a bean spread for the the bread, but 2/4 people in our party don't care for beans, so they ate their bread plain. Would have loved some oil! But, overall a great experience and delicious food with great service.
We were disappointed by Galleria 33. The decor is ordinary and the place is a little dark. Food wise, my wife and I shared the rizotto as an appetizer and it was very good. For the main course, we had the Linguine Vongole and the Veal parmigiana. The Linguini Vongole were OK but I counted 6 clams in the Linguini. As far as the Veal Parmigiana, it covered the whole plate and it came with penne pasta on the side. American portions I assume. It was enough for 2.
The food was AMAZING! Had the pappardelle and it did not disappoint. I wish I could say the same about the wait staff. Perhaps it was a language/personality barrier, but it appeared that each time I asked for something, she had a less than pleasant retort. I believe I even witnessed her making a comment to the other staff, in reference to one of my request. Despite the fact it had amazing food, the experience and the feeling I left with overshadows it.
If you don't mind being greeted by a disinterested hostess, and then being seated at a table that wasn't set and are happy to sit for over 15 minutes without a hello or smile or even an acknowledgement by the serving staff then this is the place for you!!!
Fortunately we were able to leave without being noticed as the staff was consistent in their lack of awareness.
