Love their patio, love to support local owners. Our food was good. Our waiter was kind and friendly, but two separate times we had to go chase him down because he forgot things... not sure what this story was. He apologized, but they weren't overly busy- he forgot to bring the chips for our app and then forgot to bring my wine. Hmmmm. Otherwise, like this place a lot!
Delicious food; excellent service. Will definitely return.
The food was outstanding as was our server Heidi! She did a great job!
Wonderful, imaginative (food) creations with an Latino twist- and beautifully presented!
Food was great! Wonderful server..able to suggest foods to try and recommend certain choices. We will definitely be back!
An hour for drinks, 90 min for our two tapas plates. Food was alright, nothing to cry home about tho. Servers were unskilled and unacommodating. The smaller plate offerings were cumbersome and difficult to eat.
Did not enjoy the experience at all. Food was more French fusion than Mexican. So if you're craving Texas mex,, Mexican, country/soul food. Seek another establishment.
Used to love this restaurant but the service was so bad last night I would hesitate to return & can’t recommend it. Took 30 minutes to get a drink & over an hour for good. Decided to pay cash after waiting 15 minutes for the check.
It was a surprisingly quiet night at La Fresca. Not sure if everyone was up at the cabin or what. We started off with Ceviche De Huachinango and Mariscos Con Calavacitas which were both excellent, especially the ceviche. For the next course, we had the Huachinango (snapper) and Camarones Al Tequila (shrimp). The snapper was very tasty, but the shrimp, although good, was kind of bland. A little more spice would have been nice. For drinks, we had Sangria. That also was very good.
This is not your traditional Mexican restaurant. It’s certainly Mexican flavored inspired dishes but you won’t find any burritos here - not a bad thing, it just caught us off guard walking past when we saw a Mexican restaurant. The guacamole is phenomenal and the carne asada (aka tenderloin) with asparagus and potatoes au gratin was delicious. Most of the entrees are seafood dishes though so if you’re not a fish person your only other protein option is steak - I couldn’t see any chicken on the menu. Wonderful service and a beautiful patio environment.
Tres leches dessert was a definite disappoint. It was a dry white cake with no leches.
Love this restaurant! The food was delicious (as usual) and they now have a full bar, which is nice if you want a margarita to compliment your meal.
We were at La Fresca on a Tuesday night (half priced select bottles of wine Tuesday-Wednesday). We had hoped to sit on the patio, but the weather wasn't very nice so we ate inside. Not busy that night. Outstanding service from Heidi. We've been here several times because it has fabulous fish preparations. We weren't disappointed! Both halibut and red snapper dishes were excellent. Highly recommended.
I live a block away from this restaurant and have been proud to recommend it as a great neighborhood gem. Our experience with my family though was really quite sad. We were really looking forward to their typically excellent food and service after our work week and last day of kids school. Unfortunately we experienced neither of these.
We arrived promptly for our 6:30 reservation. A few employees were bustling about on a busy summer evening. None of them acknowledged our presence as we stood in the entry area. No "we'll be with you in a minute" greeting of any kind. A hostess finally inquired about a reservation. We were hoping to sit outside, but none were open. Fine, we'll wait at the bar and have a drink until a spot opens up. We weren't able to secure a drink for about 10 minutes. Ok, not off to a good start, but we're pretty patient. They are busy and we can acknowledge that.
We were able to get seated. Minute after minute passed by without a server coming out. After 15 minutes or so I decided to ask the guy who poured our drinks about service. 5 minutes later the hostess asked if anyone had come out yet. Still no. 10 additional minutes clicked by before we finally had to move on and find dinner.
I find no joy in writing this review. Maybe this was just an off night. Maybe someone called in sick, etc. I understand that staffing these restaurants are a real challenge today. Not filling all the tables might have made sense on a night where they couldn't handle it. Either way, there needs to be some communication with your guests. I believe the owner has recently opened up another new location. If its at the expense of your other existing restaurants, then it may be time to dial it back.
UNUSUAL AND TASTY FOOD. Definitely worth a visit to try to various offerings.
This is one of our favorite places to eat. One suggestion I would make - if serving a shrimp dish with the shell, tail, etc. still on the shrimp, it might be good to give someone some warning so they know they have to peel it themselves and also provide a warm wet towel so they can wipe their hands afterwards. My entree was delicious but it took some time to peel the shrimp and my hands were stained and sticky with the red sauce and my nails filled with bits of shrimp. I made a joke about it when the waiter asked how our entrees were - wish he had thought to offer me a towel but then I could have asked - just decided to go wash my hands. If this is my biggest problem I’m doing pretty good but does take away somewhat from an otherwise lovely dining experience.
Quaint, good food and great service.
Delicious food, outstanding service and overall beautiful culinary experience.
This is. A great neighborhood spot for dinner and Drinks. A family favorite!
It was a Friday night. By the time I made an online reservation we couldn't get a table until 8:15. We showed up 45 minutes early and three bar seats miraculously opened up, so we took them. The service was slow to come around, but the place was packed and they were working hard. The food was spectacular, beautiful to look at and flavorful. We all oooohed and aaaahed at every bite! Yum. Next time we will go on a weeknight.
Waited 20 minutes past reservation. Entrees and appetizers came 5 minutes apart.
Really enjoyed the new (to us) tapas-style food choices. We had several and loved them all. The remolacha (beet salad) and the queso fondido (poblano pepper fondue) were especially good. Service was slightly slow - only one server on duty when we were there - but very friendly and knowledgeable. La Fresca is not as trendy as some newer spots, but the food cannot be beat, and prices are more reasonable, too. Great value.
Outstandingly creative and fresh. Wait staff knowledgeable, available, but unobtrusive. Small intimate ambiance encourages conversation. Pleasant outdoor seating overlooking residential neighborhood with limited traffic. Parking is a challenge. One of our go-to places when visiting the Cities.
The carne asada was particularly good.
Did the wine pairing dinner and it was excellent as always.
Very nice wine and food pairing! Thoughtful and creative food. Will be back!
four of us each ordered fish and they were beautifully prepared great seasoning
Cute little neighborhood spot, very homy and welcoming. Very attentive and friendly service by both the waiter and host. The food was delicious and fresh, true to their homemade claims. It's small, so space is a bit tight but didn't feel uncomfortably so.
The waiter, Zach, was very friendly and efficient, but not intrusive. Great food overall but guacamole was lacking flavor. Comfortable atmosphere. We had a great time and will return!
La Fresca had been highly recommended to me, but it still surprised us when my wife and I finally dined there. The food was outstanding; carefully prepared and presented using fresh ingredients, and everything served to us was simply delicious.
This is definitely nouvelle Mexican cuisine, as the restaurant proclaims, with ingredients that were beautifully combined. Service was informal and very friendly; we genuinely felt welcome.
The only disappointing thing was that the restaurant was so quiet on a Wednesday evening--it deserved to be busy!
Another great experience. Fresh and lively menu. Great fish. Upbeat atmosphere. We love to come to La Fresca with friends.
Always excellent! One of our favorite places!
I love La Fresca! I brought guests from San Diego who are the first to tell you how snobbish they are about this cuisine. They loved it, too. Your guacamole and ceviche are stand-outs.
Service was lovely, table was small awkward for two people. Food was fresh and interesting. Portions small but adequate. Will be back. It was quiet and perfect for conversation .
The food was delicious! Our server added to our wonderful experience.
Service was fabulous!
Dan was a great server. We had delicious food.
La Fresca makes the most authentic Mexican food we have ever encountered in Minneapolis. We have traveled in Mexico quite a lot and our extended family had a Mexican housekeeper who was a fabulous cook. The food at La Fresca is wonderful!
Really great small plates. Loved the guacamole-and the duck empanada. However, both entree fish dishes were a bit over cooked (dry). Waiter was very attentive if not a bit too familiar (we didn’t know him, but he acted like we were old friends).
Very creative dishes, wonderful presentation, very delicious and great service. Also charming environment. We very much warmed to our server Juan. He was so gracious, even helping us w/ our botched Spanish. Highly recommend. Will definitely return.
the food was fabulous as usual; the sound system was a bit loud for 5:30 in the evening and was more suited to a bar setting with 4 on the floor bass (during our quiet birthday dinner)...always a favorite spot
