The service was great! There was never an empty glass or bread bowl. The food was all amazing! High recommend the linguine with sea food in either the red or white sauce! Will definitely be coming back!
reasonable prices for center city phila, make them bring it out HOT! BYOB
I booked this place for a last minute bday dinner for 6ppl on a Saturday night. We were all running late and the hostess called me 10 min after the reservation to make sure we were still coming. I told her we were all running late and looking for parking and if she could please hold our table and she said of course, that's why I called. I was so grateful, a busy Saturday night and she was so gracious. When we finally arrived there 35 min after our reservation, they led us to our table. The whole restaurant was filled. I was so appreciative. This just marked the beginning of a great dinner. Service was excellent, food was scrumptious. I definitely recommend this place for group dinners! There were 2 parties with birthdays, including ours, and they turned off the lights for everyone to celebrate the birthday ppl. Also, not only was the staff amazing, so were the other patrons. When they left, they gave us their bottles of wine they hadn't opened. Needless to say we all left tipsy and very happy. BYO.
Excellent. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and excellent service.
BYOB is great!
Went there last week for dinner. Very solid Italian restaurant. The sauces were fantastic. The mark for good sauce is that it's not watery, and you could tell they really simmer their sauces and it's the good stuff. It's BYOB. My date had a red sauce pasta dish which was terrific and I had the fettuccini Alfredo which was also excellent. Their desserts were also good. It's a very good restaurant and entrees are mostly up around just under 20 dollars so it's a great value for the quality of food you're getting. Service is nice, it's run by real Italian people and they really care about making the experience good. I will return.
The food was delicious and presentation beautiful! And top notch service. Great place for any occasion!
for a Sunday night dinner my girlfriend and i choose this wonderful little gem near rittenhouse square. We brought our own bottle to split over dinner (~2 dollar corkage fee). Fast service and delicious food. I got the arugula salad to start followed by the linguine alla something (had clams mussels calamari and shrimp). Very tasty! My girlfriend had the Caesar salad followed by fettuccini Alfredo. She was pleased with how light and non greasy it was. Finished the night with a canoli and coffee. Couldn't be happier!
We have eaten here before. I love the food and the ambiance is lovely. There were large parties of young women there and it raised the decibal level to extreme. It got worse as time went on and we were happy to leave!
Branzino was delicious
Me and the wife went there last night we had an excellent meal she had a veal Parmesan and I had that fish special present now very very good way to be friendly quick service if the room here we had dessert and cappuccinos
Food was fine, good not great. Mussels sweet, simple and enjoyable. Bolognese was much too dark red South Philly tomato saucy rather than a brown veal and carrot meat sauce. Not very good and much better in South Philly. Langoustino was $50 . Pricey! But I couldn't get past the wine glasses. They had the stumpiest stemmed Libbey barely juice glasses that they were using for wine glasses. I found them unacceptable and not up to the glasses used at other center city BYOB's. Heavy rolled edges and thick stems, ruined my nice wine for me.
Won't be back.
Good food; busy Saturday night but we felt everyone was celebrating hubby’s birthday! Our favorite byob!
Neighborhood gem--we love this restaurant. The food is delicious and all of the employees are so friendly. They treat us like family. We highly recommend this restaurant.
We had never been to La Fontana before, so we decided to try it for Restaurant Week. Everything about the meal was excellent. While it was clear that they were trying to move customers through, to maximize the seatings that night, we never felt rushed. In fact, the courses came surprisingly quickly, but again it wasn't as if they brought a course before we were finished with the previous course. The RW menu was a terrific value: four courses and lots of selections for each course. I'm not a desserts person, but the tiramisu was one of the very best I've ever had. In particular, the service was really good; friendly and efficient. We will come again and recommend this place to others.
Dinner was delicious. The gnocchi Gorgonzola was fabulous and The cannoli was phenomenal!!!
Went for lunch during Restaurant Week and will definitely be returning frequently. As we’re new to Philly we’re pleased to find a really good Italian restaurant with a nice selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts. The mussels as an appetizer were delicious, and I’d highly recommend the tiramisu for dessert.
Loved the pastas. My veal was just okay as was the Caesar salad Muscles good ,dessert great
A wonderful meal and service!!!!
Took my two college daughters for lunch and we all had a fine time. Service was outstanding, very attentive. Ambience was noteworthy . Would go back soon.
Four former co-workers went to lunch here during Restaurant Week. The menu was one of the best and most expansive I have seen for the $20 fixed price. Everything was very good. The mussels appetizer and gnocchi gorgonzola pasta main course I had was ample and excellent. The service was great, wait staff attentive and charming. Even though one of our party did not eat dessert, we were still given four desserts and we all relaxed over coffee. The restaurant is in a wonderful location, the whole experience was delightful, and since I made the reservation, my group showered me with praises and thanks, which rightly belongs to the staff and management.
Restaurant Week is not our favorite time to go out for dinner in Center City, because some restaurants do not put out their best menu at this time. But friends from out-of-town wanted to come in that week and try a place they had never been to before. We suggested La Fontana Della Citta, because we eat there often for dinner and love everything about it. This time, however, we ate there for lunch.
Everything about this restaurant is wonderful. The service is absolutely perfect and very friendly without being overbearing. We don't feel at all rushed either.
But it is the food that keeps us coming back. The Restaurant Week menu was more extensive than at other restaurants taking part, with enough appetizer and entree selections to satisfy everyone. One of our party got the seafood soup, one got the caprese salad, and two had the Caesar salad, and everyone loved what they ordered. Two of us had veal parmesan as our entrees, and the only complaint is that it would have been nice to have a bit of pasta or some vegetables as an accompaniment to the perfectly cooked veal. I forgot what our friends ordered as entrees, but after we finished, they both said they thought the food was amazingly good. Dessert were tiramisu, coconut sorbet, and Italian chocolate chip ice cream.
Portions were generous. The noise level was lively, but with the high ceilings to absorb the sound, it wasn't annoying, as it is in many Center City restaurants.
Check out this restaurant the next time you're in Center City. I know you'll love it as much as we do.
Went for restaurant week. The selections for the courses were excellent. Soup, homemade gnocchi and ravioli was delicious. Had the shrimp risotto-delicious. Hats off to Artie our server. Very friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to go back.
Outstanding service and great food. The menu for Restaurant Week was perfect.
Love this place!
food was fantastic!
Food was just ok
Food was good. We felt rushed, in and out in under an hour and they dropped the check off without asking if we wanted dessert.
We had heard good and not so good things, but we were headed to the theater, and this seemed an obvious choice. We were greeted/seated in a fairly perfunctory way. I let the maitre'd know it was my wife's birthday, he didn't seem to notice that.
As in other reviews, it seemed as if the staff didn't want to be there. The specials were recited so fast, that we forgot about it and stuck with the menu. For starters we had fried calamari, tasted just fine, but I miss the tentacles. A few places give the whole squid, most don't. The marinara was pretty good.
Luckily, I knew it was a BYOB, so be forewarned.
Our mains were Jekyll and Hyde. My Risotto Pescatore, well, the rice was a poor imitation of risotto, with a soupy watery texture, and not stirred in prep. I'm not a snob, but the rice simply did not come off. The fish were some clams, mussels, and shrimp. Some mussels did not open during cooking, and they smelled a bit funky.
However, to end on a good note, my wife had Veal Scallopini, and was very pleased. It looked good, and I enjoyed my taste.
My wife had a slice of cheesecake and coffee. I'd say we were rushed as they started to get more tables. In fact there's a "Rules and Regulations" list at the top of the menu which specified (among other things) that you better scram after you're eaten!
I think it can be a pretty good place if you stick to basics, and don't expect much in innovation and basic table service. It's a pretty enough place, but needs a new carpet and good cleaning. Still, not bad, but there's no reason to return.
Food and service were both great. Atmosphere was perfect for our little group.
We went on what I imagine is normally a quiet time of the week (Wednesday night). Food was good and the place was quiet which was perfect. We had a good time and appreciate that it is BYOB.
Three of us went for dinner, and I was completely underwhelmed by the service. My meal was great, but the servers were inattentive, we were rushed through all of the courses despite it being half-empty, and it made the experience disappointing. Normally, I’d be willing to sacrifice poor service for great food, but with all of the other options for great Italian in Philly, I’d recommend one of those. All three of us said we’d never go back.
Perhaps unfair to rate it on Christmas Day. Very crowded. What I disliked most about it was no accommodation for just a couple. Tables all crowded together. Food was OK but, nothing special. Wait staff was very friendly and efficient.
Dined here for Christmas
Very crowded but the staff was very friendly
The food was delicious
Their tomato sauce was a welcome change
I could taste the sauce and the food
instead of the usual garlic fest
Truly enjoyable Christmas Day dining experience. We plan to make LaFontana our go to Christmas dining destination
Was excellent except for except for two things. First it’s a BYOB restaurant yet I can’t find anything on their website saying that’s the case. Second, the bread was not as fresh. Minor but for these two things to was a wonderful dinner.
Delicious food and good service with friendly atmosphere.
We went there for Christmas dinner. We had the first reservation and when we arrived there were two tables set. We were sent to the upstairs room where the servers sat around and talked No other patrons were sat there. Ambiance was horrible. I ordere the risotto and it was not cooked still crunchy.
Not a very merry Christmas dinner.
BYOB spot - didn't realize that. Service was OK - was a noticeable amount of time before anyone came to my table. Waiter did provide me with a complimentary glass of wine which was nice. Food was just OK - I had the chicken parm - very very saucy.. The pasta itself was good - cooked perfectly but just way too much sauce for me.
Food and service are good but it seems to take forever to be seated. I think this is because the restaurant constantly over-books reservations to maximize capacity, which results in frustratingly long wait times.
Great restaurant, great food, great service
