Got caught in Restaurant Week... regular menu was not available. A bit crowded but the wait staff handled the situation well.
Food was very good. We went for restaurant week @ 2pm on Sunday and were told they didn't offer the lunch deal on the weekend. Thought they should have let us know prior to arrival. Will definately recommend to others and come back..plenty of choices..ample portions.. the tilapia was fabulous! Staff were pleasant ....and tolerant of a large energetic group! The BYOB helped keep the cost down.
BYO restaurant with very good food. Although we chose our meals from the prefixed Restaurant Week menu, we had a great meal. We perused the regular menu and found many good choices for our next meal.
I've been to La Fontana before but this was a completely different experience. When we arrived for our reservations they were running about an hour behind. While this is annoying, it is understandable considering it was restaurant week. Our issue was with the unprofessional staff & the inefficient way everything was handled.Although we checked in with the hostess, she was not using the electronic list I could see she had at her station. The staff came outside(there was no room to wait inside)asking for people by what they looked like instead of by name.Groups with reservations after us(we know because they told us themselves)were seated before us. The hostess lacked answers and another waitress stated "What do they expect? They went outside."
They over booked and then proceed to lie and tell us our table would be ready in 5 mins. 1hr and 15 min later we sat down. Went up to ask how soon and they said we were next. They sat another group of 3 down at a table of 4. I asked them about that and they said it was a table for 3. It was because they knew the group. So if you know them, you will be seated first. Food was good, so if you want to go. Check in and then tour the city for an hour and then you might be seated.
At La Fontana we enjoyed the food but felt rushed by the staff almost from the moment we were seated even after asking the waiter to back off. We overheard the hostess telling a waiting group that they would be getting our table when we finished (this was before our desert was served) so we also had five women staring at us. When we did get up to leave, the busyboys came to the table before we even stepped away and the hostess shoved our coats at us in a pile! The food was worth a second visit but not the service.
I had a great dining experience. Great atmosphere, staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. Great place to for dinner with friends
Very attentive waitpersons and a bit overly fast courses. Not the fault of the restaurant. I let them know when reserving that we will be going to the Phila. Orch. concert at 8 pm.
Still a great go-to place for excellent traditional comfort Italian cuisine. The gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce is always fabulous. The management and staff is very welcoming. We just ate there for restaurant week and the menu was great value and delicious. While I love the place , it does get noisy and I wish the bread could be a little more crusty. We'll be back.
Good spot for pre-theater dining. Excellent service, and they were mindful of the time so we could leave for our concert timely. Wonderful calamari.
Had a wonderful dinner before seeing a show at the Academy of Music....Very nice atmosphere...good food...and an excellent server.
Our group enjoyed eggplant rolletini, orchiette primavera, and salmon (menu version.) We liked having several vegetarian choices. Food is consistently delicious. I come to this restaurant frequently and bring different friends to introduce them to it.
This was the first time I had been here for lunch but I have been here many many times for dinner. It's the same menu. My friend and I split the orchiette barese with red sauce and a salad. We loved the orchiette but the arugula salad was much too stemmy and we couldnt eat it. Usually I order the caesar salad which is delicious.
Love the food, and the service is always amazing. Always greeted and served with a smile!
Nothing spectacular here, but consistently good and well-presented food at very modersate prices -- plus the fact that it's a BYO -- keep the regulars coming back.
Unsatisfactory bread which is difficult to undserstand.
This was our second year here for Xmas dinner. Nice that the full menu is available. The staff is cordial and accomodating, attentative but not overly. The food is excellent, nicely presented, properly prepared and plentiful. I had the pasta bolognese and my wife the gnocchi. Among the best we have had. This is a great place to go for any occasion that you wish to make special. Being a BYOB, the bill is gentle. Leave room for dessert.
Thoroughly enjoyed this visit and will definitely return. Wait staff was very pleasant and accommodating, and the deserts were outstanding! Got the right table this time.
Good food for neighborhood restaurant. I forgot to BYOB.
We always love la fontanta but this time we were really rushed. We were there for an hour and a half and had 3 courses. Our plates were cleared while we were still eating our entrees and then as soon as we finished dessert they basicly told us to get out becaue they needed our table. We will be back but if we have another experience like this I am not sure the food will be enough to keep us coming.
I have been here many times and the food and service are consistently excellent. This time I brought friends who have never been there and they loved it. Veal piccatta, eggplant rolletini, and pasta with seafood special - especially delicious! There is no loud music - just people enjoying dinner and having conversations in a congenial attractive setting - the way a restaurant is supposed to me.
Disappointed this visit, restaurant was very busy. Will try again in the future.
It had been a long time since we went to La Fontana and it will be a long time before we go again. The place was packed with many large parties and the atmosphere was frenetic and unpleasant. Food was ok and portions were large but there are lots of places to get ok food. The highlight of the meal was the antipasto. The pastas (one a special) were just ok. Service was rushed but attentive.
BYOB, but the food is straight out of italy. Its one of my all time favorites
The eggplant rolletini appetizer and the orchiette primavera with white sauce were oustanding. The white sauce had just the right amount of garlic. The housemade gnocchi was not the best - a bit to heavy. Rack of lamb was tasty but too much sauce. Cannoli and tartufo for dessert were light and good. This was our Thanksgiving dinner.Turkey was an option but we declined. Overall the food here is delicious and we have enjoyed many wonderful dinners here including holidays.
I made a reservation for 8:45pm. My 3 friends and I showed up at 8:30pm and still were not seated at 9:10. We had a show to go to so we ended up leaving and not find any where else to eat beside Qdoba. To say the lease it definitely put a damper on our night. It was clear that they overbooked the place since everyone there was waiting for reservations and there were at least 20 of us waiting outside for over 30 minutes.
Lots of big groups this time around. The restaurant had several larger parties but didn't let that get in the way of a terrific meal and timing for our pre theater dinner. Food is always delicious.
The staff at this place is wonderful! So friendly and accommodating. The food is also delicious.
there were 6 of us. 4 of us liked our dinner the other 2 claimed it was very salty.
I thought it would be a little romantic, but may be Saturday is a wrong day for that. It was very loud (hard to talk), staff was moving chairs back and forth carrying it over your head.
oversize portions tasted good, but it was too much. BYOB compensates for the shortfalls. I may try it again.
when we arrived we were taken to our table which basically was in the basement. 5 or six tables in a very small area. we had three in our party and we were seated next to to very large groups. the food this go around was only fair. the only bright spot was the service. our waiter was terrific. not sure if we will return.
Had awful experience. Food terrible. Had risotto. Which was dry white rice. With sauce over it. I spoke to manager he saiD well enjoy. And walked away. Another person came over and started arguing that this was best imported rice. Nothing taken off bill. No offer dessert. Bot staff made it clear they where rushing for us to leave. They started removing everything off table while we were still sinking coffee.
Food was delicious. And our waitress was outstanding - attentive and funny!
Was attending AVA concert so selected LFDC for the location. Had been two years since last dining experiece and the food is definitely not as good as it use to be. Food quality mediocre...entree was drowning in sauce and it was salty. Wait staff indifferent.
Food was great - portions were fair. Bonus that it was restaurant week. Great BYOB
I'd like to try this place again when it isn't Restaurant week and scope the menu. Bruschetta was great, pre-entree pasta (particularly gnocchi was awesome) Entree was kinda basic...chicken with cheese on top of it in a lemon sauce (eh..) Dessert was AMAZING - Tartufo was just phenomonal. Loved that its BYO,but didnt realize they tack the 20% onto the bill automatically (for a party of 5, i thought that unusual, but again, maybe just because of Restaurant Week). I'd give it another go another time, but I'm not putting it before trying a new place.
We had passed by this place many times and decided to try La Fontana della Citta for Restaurant Week, and we had a very nice dinner. Our server was friendly and conscientious, and other servers did a fine job keeping glasses filled, etc. The room is quite lovely -- high ceilings and chandeliers, with paintings of Italy on the walls. White table cloths and waiters in pressed white shirts, ties and pants made for an elegant experience, and seating is available outside though, as it's situated at a busy intersection, we decided to eat inside.
The food was a mixed bag: the bread (which came with olive oil) was bland, and the appetizers were not great. The entrees and dessert, however, were very good.
Went for a girls night out. Quiet and delicious!
I've been to this restaurant twice now and it has not disappointed. Amazing and authentic Italian food and great service. Couldn't ask for more!
First time here. Food prep excellent, although someone should proof the menu. Service great. Very noisy. Coffee weak.I've dined frequently at the Sea Isle and Stathmere locations. Food and service comparable; noise level higher.
