About La Fontana Del Mare
La Fontana Del Mare was first opened in 1998 by Bujar Daku, the head chef and Gani Daku. It is a landmark restaurant, only a block away in small town Strathmere (midway between Sea Isle City and Ocean City). It is a place where diners by the sea can get a splendid taste of Italian from the City of Brotherly Love in a round-about way. The restaurant offers adjusted menus for all kind of diets, therefore making the place open to everyone. We are also accessible to those with disabilities fulfilling the ADA requirements.

La Fontana Del Mare Ratings and Reviews
Although located off the beaten path and somewhat out of season, La Fontana was packed on a gorgeous Saturday night. Providing both indoor / outdoor seating , a robust menu and 5 star food , La Fontana gives patrons a consistent delightful meal on every visit. Inside seating at this BYOB can be a bit noisy so opt for outside (covered) if the weather permits.
Our love affair with La Fontana is OVER. On our most recent visit, we arrived at 7:35 and checked in for our 7:45 reservation. Directed to wait in their overcrowded parking lot with. I seating, we joined a group of very unhappy guests. We watched as people arrived after us and after a friendly check on with the host, were seated before us. The hungry, disgruntled crowd became unruly watching this happen. The waitstaff were valiantly trying to keep up with this obviously SEVERELY overbooked restaurant. The food was ok but we were so upset about the conditions of the wait for a seat and delay on getting our meal, we couldn't enjoy it! Unfortunately this is the second time I have had a bad experience with this former gem. Alas, while the
food is generally good, the stress of the lack of a reservation system and subsequent stress on the kitchen and waitstaff , unduly long wait for the food means I will not be returning!
Restaurant was hot because they said AC broken. Waiter opened windows then shut them when another group was seated and complained. Veal Parnes overlooked and pasta tasted left over. Was charged for for sodas and only had water??? Also was expensive, over 160.00 without tip for four people. Very dissapointed. Have been going to all of the Fontina restaurants and always liked them.
Our reservation was set for 8:15. We were still thrid in line at 9. I called the Maitre D to let him know that we left and he yelled at me for leaving. Before he HUNG UP on me he shouted that I have NO idea what it is like to do his job.
I've eaten here many times in the past and always enjoyed my meal. In fact, I was there ten days ago and my meal was very good. Saturday night was disappointing on all fronts - the food was not good (I'd had a similar dish in Buona Vita that was far superior), the service was not great and the dining room was over crowded - with the staff moving around tables and disrupting the guests. They need to use the winter to update the restaurant - replace the old stained carpet and provide some space for guests waiting for tables. The guests eating on the patio had groups standing around their tables waiting to be seated -- not a nice night out.
First time at this BYOB establishment. Food was a nice assortment of Italian dishes, with plenty of seafood choices. My penne w shrimp was good, although would have preferred more of a blush sauce than red. Grilled calamari appetizer was good, although was expecting more of a grilled octopus. This was not my favorite. Would definitely try this restaurant again.
We had reservations but it didn't matter. We still had to wait. The restaurant was so crowded and loud that we could not enjoy our meal. There were three of us and we could not talk to each other without screaming. We were seated in a large room that hosted a birthday party for a large boisterous crowd of maybe 30 people. They had no business putting this group in a room with other diners. They should have had a designated space. It's pretty bad when the environment is so unpleasant you can't wait to leave as soon as you sit down. The food was okay, nothing special. You can get the same or better at a dozen area Italian restaurants without the circus atmospher.
My husband and I dine here as a twosome & with our 3 boys all summer long. It's a local favorite. The food is delicious, the host is always friendly & professional, but the service can be spotty depending on your server. During this particular evening our waitress told us the specials, opened our wine and took our order. Great start. However, she then brought out our salads & not a minute later, she brought our our hot appetizers. It was bad enough to have two dishes sitting in front of us at once, but we were seated at a small, 2 top table so we were forced to play "rearrange the table" to accommodate our 5 plates (my DH had the muscles which comes with 2 large bowls) This is a big NO-NO. The server should have paced our meal appropriately. It made us feel rushed to eat the food quickly. Oh and we had to ask for water, twice... the bus boy/girls should be bringing bread and filling water. Not enough to keep us away, but I hope they read this review and have a chat with their wait staff. Pace the meal so as to not make the diner feel like they're being rushed out. Thank you!! :-)
We had made reservations and as soon as we arrived we were taken back, it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was full plus there were people waiting outside. The waitress was attentive and friendly and the food came out in a timely manner and it was fantastic! Will definitely go back!!
We loved everything about the food, and our server was adorable. My reasoning for the four-, rather than five-, star rating was based on the fact that they seemed to run out of menus, and they kept trying to get ours. Several of the servers came to our table and grabbed our menus ; we had to grab them back and explain that we hadn't ordered yet and still needed them. We did feel a bit rushed to order because of this. Otherwise, it was a great experience.
A great spot just over the bridge from Ocean City in Strathmere. The food is very nicely presented and the quality is excellent. The best part about it has been the ability to be seated as soon as you arrive (with a reservation) and the professional wait staff service. This is a BYOB but we like saving the money on overpriced drink menus and considering that OC does not allow any liquor at all, it's a must to leave and make a short drive to Strathmere if you want to enjoy a glass of wine with your dinner. I have been three times thus far and never disappointed. A nice change from the mediocre dining in the area offering creative dinner specials and a full menu to choose from. Worth it!
