La Fontaine Restaurant
The reason for a 4 and not a 5 is because we asked if a dish could be sautéed instead of fried. The server hesitated. I asked if he could check with the chef. The server said no, they were very busy and couldn’t ask. The restaurant wasn’t even half full.
Great food and service. I haven’t been to this place since it changed management a while ago but I will definitely go back.
Very nice service for a party of 7 which was appreciated
This quaint little restaurant reminded me of Italy, especially at the end of dinner when they offered complimentary limoncello. The portions of our dishes were able and the food was delicious!
Best spot in Mtn View, great food, great service, great experience
This is my favorite go-to place for excellent food, lovely atmosphere, great service.
A great dinner before preforming arts! Great service ! Always attentive but not "overseeing" No rush to finish:-)
We're definitely coming back:-)
Service was a bit on the slow side but everyone was very nice and accommodating and the food was very good
The place had a nice ambience but few people and the bread that they give as a compliment had a hair stand in it!
Entrees were very good. Wine selection was very good to great. Pricing seemed a little high, but I don't feel like I overpaid. My only complaint, the minestrone soup was average to below average. It was almost like eating Campbell's Vegetable Soup. I liked it, but it lacked being something special. I do plan on returning.
There were 7 in our group. We got the table we had requested, and our server was BEYOND wonderful! She managed to get us all fed and out the door in plenty of time for our theatre reservations. 3 of us ordered the Branzino, which was fabulous. We will keep coming back!
La Fontaine is one of the more pleasant places to have lunch in downtown Mountain View. The 3 star rating is on a very demanding scale, where Michelin starred restaurants might get 4 unless they were truly phenomenal; so "Good" means Good - no verbal inflation here. The food is traditional French/Italian - tasty, satisfying and predictable without any fashionable affectations. Service is efficient, thoughtful and unobtrusive.
Our server was amazing and treated my children wonderfully.
The food was good, but overpriced. But it is a typical trendy restaurant in downtown Yuppieville, better know as Mountain View. Will probably go there again, because of it's convenience & because it the only non-Asian place on Castro Street. Contrary to most Yuppie's not everyone loves Thai food!
Food was good , nice ambience . Service was slow in the beginning ,even though we were the only table in the restaurant . Entrees arrived quickly .
Got to restaurant early and were seated immediately. We had the lamb chops, coq au vin, linguini with shrimp. We had to refrain from licking the plates. The food & service were excellent. A diverse menu. I have already recommended La Fontaine to friends. I haven't stopped raving about it.
It took the server 10 minutes to greet us. Table was missing utensils and bread plate and we had to remind staff to get us these one at a time. Not all of the menus were given to the table and all guests.
We had a nice Mother’s Day lunch with my family. Restaurant was surprisingly empty when we first arrived but it started to fill out later. Squid appetizer was amazing as was the lava cake. My gnocchi was so so. Pretty pricey for the quality of food but service was excellent.
Excellent service, excellent food in a vibrant area. Our server always had a smile on his face. Staff cleared our plates efficiently and kept our water glasses filled without asking. I enjoy coming here, especially on special occasions. Will be returning to enjoy another meal.
Food was mostly good. but the flies and peeling paint in the restaurant was a turn off.
The portions were small and the risotto was under cooked so we had to sent it back. The people were nice, but not attentive to us, even though we were 1 of 3 tables on a Sunday night. I had to ask the water to be refilled and they seemed to want to push us out by constantly asking if we are done with our food while we were talking. and eating
$100 for 2 appetizer, salad, 1 entree, and a desert seems way too pricey for this place. Would not recommend and I would not go back again.
You absolutely can't go wrong at La Fontaine, it is our go to place before we head over to the MVPAC.
My sisters & I enjoyed our time w/you on the 27th of April. Attentiveness was excellent & service was great.
La Fontaine is a very nice place for Sunday brunch. It’s quieter than most restaurants in the neighborhood, an easy walk after the Mountain View Farmers Market and the Eggs Benedict are a perfect dish for brunch.
We came here before a Theatreworks show so arrived around 5:30 before the restaurant was busy. The staff was very welcoming and well trained. I had reserved a table outside, but it was a little chillier than expected so we sat inside. We all had drinks, appetizers and a main course. The food was good - based on our meals, I think your best bet here is to go with pasta. I had chicken paillaird and it was a bit dry but the pasta dishes looked amazing. The portion sizes are generous without being huge. I feel like La Fontaine is a bit of a hidden gem along Castro Street and well worth checking out if you like Italian or French food.
Absolutely my favorite restaurant! Great food! Great Service. One tiny negative - its can get really noisy at times making it difficult to communicate.
Excellent business meal! The service by Judith was excellent and perfectly attentive. The meals were prepared correctly and were delicious. I recommend the Beef Wellington! Only downfall was the espresso machine was out of service.
From the staff, to the appetizer we had, the main dishes, to the outstanding dessert, everything was top notch!
Our meal and service (female server, Dani?) were exceptional, especially considering the size of our group (7 women). Everything was served promptly and correctly -- even the silly "extras" that some of the guests asked for. We'll be back! Our one annoyance is the noise level.
One of the last quiet places to have dinner with my spouse on a busy Friday night! Thank you!
The service and fare was spectacular!
I truly enjoyed my visit and will definitely eat here again when I am in the area!
I will be recommending La Fontaine to all!
Best Italian I’ve ever had, this place is such a treat. Best best best. Everything on the menu that I’ve tried, has been the best version of that dish, that I’ve ever had, anywhere.
La Fontaine is our favourite restaurant for special occasions. This visit was for my birthday.
First time there for a girl's night out and we were very happy with the food. Service was good but a bit slow but I think it was just Friday night!!
Nicest service ever. They were very attentive, but not pushy. I had an excellent lunch ever served by equally wonderful, pleasant people.
Just one little comment. In a restaurant with a French name, it would be nice to have a choice of a few more French wines. Luckily, there was a very decent Sancerre and that did the job.
La Fontaine is quite fun and I plan to go back.
Delicious octopus, perfectly cooked. Inventive entree (fish bowl). But an Italian restaurant that has no cappuccino? How can that happen?
We had burrata, grilled octopus, carpaccio and the special, halibut. The halibut was falsely advertised as "pan-seared", when it was prepared regularly fried. It was ok, but not outstanding, and the vegetables and mashed potatoes that came with it were lukewarm - maybe they're been sitting on the plate, waiting for the fish to be cooked? The burrata and octopus got very high marks. Nicely presented and flavorful. The carpaccio was good; just the right amount of, thankfully small arugula, capers, and dash of dijon mustard. Our servers were attentive and prompt, the general atmosphere is cozy and not too loud.
Service was horrible, our dinner took 2.5 hours for entrees and dessert. We had to track down the server just to place our order. The meat entrees all ordered medium came out cold, extremely underdone and purple in the center and had to be sent back. The coffee we ordered never came and at that point we just wanted to leave. The food feels like frozen items that are heat and serve. Never again.
La Fontaine has 3 of the most interesting (and delicious!) salads that I've ever found in a restaurant. So if you're trying to be good and eat salad, this place gives great choices. But I have to admit, I find it difficult to pass up their Sole Almondine. Buttery, with lemons and capers, perfectly cooked fish. Just add a nice white wine and it's perfect!
