La Fonda on Main Ratings and Reviews
Expensive for Mexican food. The food was tasty amx served in a reasonable amount of time cor a saturday night. Biggest disappointment is the fact I was served store bought flour and corn tortillas. I was told that "someone home made them, just not us" Even taco cabana presses their own flour...
Our dinner was fabulous. You can get good Tex Mex food here but the "Especialades" are the way to go! Our only complaint was that our table (reserved through Open Table) was right next to the kitchen traffic and the restaurant was not busy so we certainly could have been seated elsewhere.
Superb for lunch, dinner, or brunch. We are regulars who go at least once per month. Anything on the menu that you think you might like will be very good. The mixed drinks, margaritas and mojitos are as good or better than they are anywhere. A special place.
A San Antonio Classic, Cappy Lawton has transformed La Fonda on Main to a cozy eating experience with San Antonio Ambience. My parents and hubby as always ordered the Old No. 7 - Chalupa &Enchilada which was delicious and well prepared Tex Mex. They always do good things with fish so I ordered the Salmon ala Plancha which was grilled with spices , just med rare , as good salmon should be, served with a spicy fideo with shrimp, bay scallops, calamari tomatoes and peppers. It was unexpected and delicious!!! We finished with a delicious Sweet Potato Cheesecake for the Thanksgiving holiday. Delicious Margaritas and PERFECT service from Ezekiel!! Thanks Cappy for another delicious evening.
La Fona did not disappoint with our Pepita crusted Salmon over Fideo with seafood. It was
delicious and very unique. Our service was excellent and prompt. We try to go there often before symphony or jazz shows. They always get us out in time. I highly recommend La Fonda for any occasion.
Friend from out of town popped in for a day. We relaxed on the patio at this reliable restaurant and enjoyed a lovely lunch. First time trying the salmon with chipotle sauce. Very good but enjoyed the vegetables even more. Was expecting hohum steamed ones and received wonderfully grilled ones instead.
The service was great, everyone’s meal, except mine was fair to good. Not great, but good. My meal was terrible! I ordered the shish kebab over rice. The rice was fine and the skewered vegetables were ok. The pork and “steak” meat was under cooked and was full of gristles. It would appear to me that if you are serving 4 tiny pieces of meat on a $19.00 dinner, the chef would at least select tender and attractive cuts. These were not! I did not complain and picked up the check because the friends that we were with recommended the restaurant. We travel through San Antonio often, but we will not return to this restaurant. SAD!
