La Fonda on Main Ratings and Reviews
We have been here many times. If not for that we might not go back. The main courses were good. The guacamole was WAY too hot and this is not typical. It was very noisy. The waiter was the worst we've ever had. Maybe they had too many tables but SOMEONE should've refilled my drink. We also had to go to the hostess stand to get our check brought to us.
Definitely worth the drive and best of the 3 locations. I live at the RIM and have visited that location a few times and went to the Main ST location for the first time after visiting the RIM and will only go back to the Main st even though it's out of the way. The service and quality of food is far superior and the ambiance is better too. I made friends drive from comfort to this location and we had such a great time. Sean was our server and had great recommendations for substitutes since some items we were interested were unavailable, everyone ate their entire meal. Portions are perfect too.
We loved sitting out on the patio under a huge oak tree decorated with colorful lights. What lovely ambiance! Great margaritas, chips & salsa and churros. The mains were just OK - mine was good (sweet potato enchiladas), but my husband didn't love the cheese-stuffed serrano chile he ordered. We would still go back just for the atmosphere and dessert.
Although i felt like I was ignored by the bartender, while I was waiting for the table, and there was a large group blocking anyone and everyone from having direct access to the bar...we were sat well before our reservation, and our server was Superman! He got us everything we needed, and he ensured our food was correct and fresh.
It was pretty loud but it wasn’t too bad. Will definitely come back! Love this place! Location is beautiful, even in the rain! :)
For the first time ever, my Chile relleno was awful. Soggy. Mushy potatoes. Overly spicy. The enchilada that accompanied the entree was soggy as well. Spice? Too much, resulting in an unpleasant after taste. There were 6 in our party. The other 5 lucked out. I was disappointed. And why all the empty tables when we had to settle for a 4:30 seating?? We were told there would be no seating at the 5:30 hour and yet, there were many empty tables when we left at 6:15. Tried to make reservations by phone and by Open Table. Were told the same thing. Something has happened to La Fonda. Please go back to the way you used to be—predictably good food and better customer service.
My boyfriend and I have enjoyed La Fonda on Main for several years. However, we have noticed on the last couple of times that the wait staff seem to be more robotic than 'real'. Also, our plates were served with the rice and beans mixed together. That's not how they usually serve the side dishes. Nevertheless, we will go back.
Great food for a Sunday lunch. Homemade tortillas was a highlight for sure. My waitress was refreshingly honest about something on the menu "that's a little weird." Her honesty was refreshing, but certainly took me aback. We had a great lunch. the only minus were the drinks. The margaritas were kinda run-of-the-mill--nothing special.
Very good authentic Mexican food, rather than just the usual Tex-Mex. Great service & nice atmosphere. Patio looked pretty, but it was very cold, so we dined inside--tables were a bit too close together in my opinion, which made the noise level more noticeable. Birthday dessert was on the house, too :)
Our first time to visit SA and not eat near the River Walk. It was good! I still like our usual spots better, but it was good. It's pricey-$15/person.
The queso was ok. The cheese enchiladas & rice were good! The churros for desert were good but the dipping sauces weren't. Overall it was good experience, not sure that I would go again unless near that area of town. Would recommend trying if your looking to get off the Riverwalk. According to our friend who just moved to the area and wanted to take us there, its rated very high for SA, I just wasn't overly impressed enough to think of it as the BEST. But overall it was good!
Our experience was outstanding. We arrived prior to our reservation time to visit the bar and have a pre-dinner drink. W e checked in with the hostess and sat down with our drinks to visit and people watch. We were able to be seated early. Food was outstanding. The service was attentive but not overt. Our server was knowledgeable of menu and the specials of the evening. One of the best dining experiences we have had.
My husband and I dined here for our anniversary. The restaurant is lovely and the staff is so friendly. We started our evening with traditional margaritas, yum, and the quest. If you haven’t tried it, order some. We love it. My husband had the enchiladas Sousa and I the sweet potato enchiladas and both were excellent. I recommend this restaurant.
A group of us visited La Fonda for a New Years' Eve group dinner. We were warmly greeted and seated right away on the back patio. The service was friendly and prompt and the prices were reasonable. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and meals.
The only disappointment was that they had run out of one of the specials on the menu - the Mar y Tierra entree - that 3 of us had wanted to try. We opted for other entrees any they were very good.
My husband and I eat here a lot. I love the food and the atmosphere is pretty. On nice evenings, the patio is lovely. The service is always good I have found the staff to be friendly and professional. I like the house margarita and always get the queso. It’s delicious! Also, sweet potato enchiladas are yummy.
