La Fonda on Main Ratings and Reviews
Great food for a Sunday lunch. Homemade tortillas was a highlight for sure. My waitress was refreshingly honest about something on the menu "that's a little weird." Her honesty was refreshing, but certainly took me aback. We had a great lunch. the only minus were the drinks. The margaritas were kinda run-of-the-mill--nothing special.
Very good authentic Mexican food, rather than just the usual Tex-Mex. Great service & nice atmosphere. Patio looked pretty, but it was very cold, so we dined inside--tables were a bit too close together in my opinion, which made the noise level more noticeable. Birthday dessert was on the house, too :)
Our first time to visit SA and not eat near the River Walk. It was good! I still like our usual spots better, but it was good. It's pricey-$15/person.
The queso was ok. The cheese enchiladas & rice were good! The churros for desert were good but the dipping sauces weren't. Overall it was good experience, not sure that I would go again unless near that area of town. Would recommend trying if your looking to get off the Riverwalk. According to our friend who just moved to the area and wanted to take us there, its rated very high for SA, I just wasn't overly impressed enough to think of it as the BEST. But overall it was good!
Our experience was outstanding. We arrived prior to our reservation time to visit the bar and have a pre-dinner drink. W e checked in with the hostess and sat down with our drinks to visit and people watch. We were able to be seated early. Food was outstanding. The service was attentive but not overt. Our server was knowledgeable of menu and the specials of the evening. One of the best dining experiences we have had.
My husband and I dined here for our anniversary. The restaurant is lovely and the staff is so friendly. We started our evening with traditional margaritas, yum, and the quest. If you haven’t tried it, order some. We love it. My husband had the enchiladas Sousa and I the sweet potato enchiladas and both were excellent. I recommend this restaurant.
A group of us visited La Fonda for a New Years' Eve group dinner. We were warmly greeted and seated right away on the back patio. The service was friendly and prompt and the prices were reasonable. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and meals.
The only disappointment was that they had run out of one of the specials on the menu - the Mar y Tierra entree - that 3 of us had wanted to try. We opted for other entrees any they were very good.
My husband and I eat here a lot. I love the food and the atmosphere is pretty. On nice evenings, the patio is lovely. The service is always good I have found the staff to be friendly and professional. I like the house margarita and always get the queso. It’s delicious! Also, sweet potato enchiladas are yummy.
The service was outstanding. Our waitress Alexandra, was well informed on all the menu items. She was very helpful in guiding us to the right selection for our pallets. The cabrito enchiladas were amazing. The flavors were numerable and worked well with each other.
The drinks were also very good. I suggest the El Rey.
Definitely a must when you visit San Antonio. A quick 12 minutes drive north of the river walk in downtown
We were visiting from Dallas and I searched best Mexican food in SA. It did not disappoint. The spinaca enchiladas were some of the best I’ve ever had. Our party of 8 from Texas, New Mexico, and S. California all agreed there’s a reason it’s been around 100 years.
We had brunch on a Saturday. It was our first visit. We were seated promptly and enjoyed the basket of pan dulce with our coffee. I had the beef soup and it was delicious. It was served with the bone marrow and vegetables that were not over cooked but retained just the right amount of texture. My husband had the fajitas and they were also good. The presentation and service were excellent. Overall excellent experience.
The food was good but not especially memorable. The least expensive plates were $14 but didn't come with any sides like you expect in a Mexican restaurant. The sweet potato enchiladas were okay but didn't make me want to come back for them. The ambiance was great and it's an interesting place to eat. Maybe just go for drinks and appetizers.
Dinner was fine except the waitress attempted to serve one dish (out of 4) that had hair in it! Rather than just return it, she was pulling hair out as she attempted to serve the dish. She had to be told to return it for a new serving. To add insult, no attempt was made to credit the meal or do otherwise to rectify the mistake. Very disappointing
Expensive for Mexican food. The food was tasty amx served in a reasonable amount of time cor a saturday night. Biggest disappointment is the fact I was served store bought flour and corn tortillas. I was told that "someone home made them, just not us" Even taco cabana presses their own flour...
