My husband and I went there during a quick, first-time trip to San Antonio and this was our best meal in town by far (even though we liked the other Tex-Mex spots we went to!). As a vegetarian, the poblano with vegetables and cheese was excellent! We will be back next time we are in town!
A classic that blends tradition and new discoveries for foodies of all ages. Excellent Margaritas and a waitstaff that is knowledgeable, helpful and not too intrusive.
We go here every Father’s Day for brunch.
Super nice, great reasonably priced food.
LaFonda serves delicious Mexican food. They have traditional Mexican and Tex-Mex selections. The enchiladas are second to none. It's not as tourist-ey as some of San Antonio's river walk options. It is one of our 3 go-to Mexican restaurants in the area.
Great as usual!
As always... the wait staff was attentive and the food amazing. The only disappointment was the change in the menu item chicken milanesa. I go there specifically for that dish. The new one is good as well.
The food was amazing. The service was awesome. I had the raibow trout with chimichurri sauce and it was to die for. The restaurant is also super cute. Outdoor area has big gorgeous trees and lights. The drinks were also very tasty.
Seated immediately at a nice table. Enchiladas were very good. Great service.
I’ve eaten at La Fonda on several occasions and usually prefer to dine after dark and take advantage of their outdoor patio which provides a nice alternative to the usual indoor routine. The patio was unavailable so my good friend and I are inside and I was pleasantly surprised. Despite being full, the ambient conversations weren’t overpowering. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. I had the Yacos de Pato, which translates to roasted, shredded duck on homemade corn tortillas with a side spinach, mango and avocado salad. My friend has the Suizas, chicken enchiladas, and she couldn’t stop commenting on how delicious her plate was. Perfect restaurant for a date, a business lunch or friendly meal with friends. I recommend making reservations and if the weather is agreeable, opt for the patio at night, it’s worth the wait.
It was our first time in San Antonio and we were looking for good Mexican food. We’re from California and know what good Mexican food tastes like. I found La Fonda on yelp and we were not disappointed. Everything about La Fonda is well done. The atmosphere, service, and food was all excellent. When they heard we were from out of state they brought a free dessert of house made churros with dipping sauces. They were some of the best churros we’ve ever eaten and the dulce de leche and strawberry
Sauce was awesome. I highly recommend La Fonda, it will definitely be a place we visit on our next trip to town.
One of my favorite restaurant s in San Antonio! Love the atmosphere, food, and Margaritas in an old time special neighborhood! I am never disappointed here!
This was our first visit to La Fonda on Main, but it won't be our last. The food and drinks were great and the service spot - on.
Birthday celebration. Patio was lovely but there was an usually high number of flies, so we had to eat fast. Spoiled the ambiance, big time. They need bug control!
The recent renovations enhanced an already beautiful building with interior details to match the exterior design. Very beautiful.
Very nice menu! Great vegetarian choices. Great service.
We were looking for a nice Mexican restaurant for overseas friends that would allow my wheelchair husband access and give a good low level ambiance. Yahaira was our AMAZING server, she was just a delight. The food was fabulous and the drinks plentiful. We literally closed the place down with our talking and laughing and just reminiscing old times. Such a lovely place, peaceful and perfect. Thank you for the fabulous night
Our table was ready on-time. The service was impeccable. The menu was perfect for our party of 6, who all tried something different. The food was absolutely superb. Can't wait to go back.
Always a fantastic experience . The food is excellent and the service is outstanding.
We really liked the ambiance of the restaurant. The chips and salsa were great. The salad was very fresh and different from what you expect to see. It was amazing.
The food was delicious and came out very quickly!
Terrific as usual. This is one of our favorite spots in San Antonio and never disappoints us. We met friends from out of town there for a late lunch, and they were most impressed with the delicious food.
We traveled from out of state and wanted someplace off the River Walk are. We found this place and came back for a second meal it was so good. The food was really good, the prices very reasonable and it was a quick Lyft ride from downtown. Will go back again!!
When all of our party arrived we were immediately sat at our table outside with a high chair all requested and executed perfectly. Food came out very quick tasted great like always. Wish our server had a better control of his whereabouts and needs better execution on reading tables. Would have been a 5 star just the waiter wasn't up to the pressure.
The staff is awesome. The menu is unique. We had a wonderful time
We have been going to La Fonda since Bill and Jack Berry took over from their mother.
The Lawtons have upgraded it to a super fine restaurant and have kept all the ambience of the original.
Service was friendly. Festive atmosphere. Ceviche was great!
The skinny margarita was very bitter. Queso tastes like velveeta and the corn torillas are store bought. Very disappointing. Had been here a year ago and it was much better.
So sad after hearing glowing reviews to be disappointed by the meal. Service was the main factor. The server was condescending and seemed offended if I asked for a refill or checked in on why things were taking so long. Our very yummy appetizer was long cold by the time he brought more chips and tortillas. My main meal was bland but maybe by then I was just put off. The restaurant is beautiful though.
To start, the salsa was exceptional, just like the fresh stuff straight from the garden that comes from my kitchen. We had queso with steak and guacamole, the guacamole was exceptional, with sangria and margaritas, exceptional start to a great meal. Fish tacos and oak grilled steak fajitas were the main course. Even the corn tortillas were tasty. We were in town for a conference and told others about our trip outside of touristy downtown (river walk) San Antonio. They too enjoyed a great experience.
The food is awesome and the service is great !
Always, always top notch. Any one of our friends and family comes into town this is where we take them hands down, never disappoints
We sat outside for dinner on the patio under the great oak tree. Loved the breeze and shade and the overall ambience. We ordered margaritas on the rocks with shrimp and a pineapple salsa, followed by tampiquena steak and chili relleno that were cooked perfectly. Definitely want to go back
I love the ambiance, the food and the service. It's great for a special occasion or for just an every day brunch, lunch or dinner.
We had a lovely dinner. We chose the appetizers that were the special of the day for our meal. We paired sweet potato soup with Sopas. Both were yummy and left us very satisfied but not stuffed. We enjoyed with a red wine from Argentina. The location is perfect if you are enjoying a play at the public theater, only 5 minutes from the theater.
Excellent daily special choices--good value, presentation, and knowledgeable server. Nice to eat outside with plenty of fans and not too noisy. Overall a pleasant experience and highly recommended for date night or even a small dinner party. Definitely ask for seating outdoors; inside is rather dark. Oh yeah, the margs are terrific.
The food was very good but our waiter rushed us but will absolutely go back.
Anniversary, this is always our special place!!
Mother, daughter get together for a weekday lunch. It was perfect, grrat food and service, comfortable to linger and jus visit.
Great meal in festive setting with attentive, friendly service. Local favorite for Mexican food in an attractive setting. Only issue was the nachos (bean and cheese) are no longer (apparently) individual bites as in past. The La Fonda special is always a favorite. Will return.
