We made our reservation based on the neighborhood and cuisine style. We had never tried LaFonda before. While the restaurant was a bit empty when we got there our fears were allayed by the incredibly friendly servers and the quality of the food. When we inquired to the flavor of an unfamiliar liquer on the menu we were offered a sample; which was fortunate because we found it not to our liking. The chocolate cake was divine!
I've eaten at many Latino restauants and the quality was sub par and expensive.
As usual great food & service.
Love their service Great sangria. Delicious empanadas...best Cuban style black beans and rice, fried bananas. The skirt stake w churrasco sauce and the seafood w yellow rice are outstanding
Great spot and great food!
A wonderful experience
, as always!
Food perfectly prepared. Impeccable service. Well-crafted mororita!
A long time staple in Edgewater. Moderately priced with attentive staff, decent food and the obligatory margaritas.
Wonderful food; appetizers so good you sometimes want to just eat them and skip entree. Shrimp and seafood especially good; lamb chop special a real treat.
Bea and her talented staff never disappoint. Been going there since they opened 15 yrs ago.
La Fonda exceeded my expectations. I had been looking for a good Latino restaurant since moving to Chicago a few weeks ago and I found a place that I will visit again and again. Their yucca fries were incredible and my chicken was tender, juicy, and tasty. My friend also enjoyed his meal; we both said we would be back.
Great food and great customer service. We loved it.
Family run and the owners take great pride of their food and the restaurant.
Great food and service. The taste was authentic and good. Looking forward to going back.
Food was great - service was wonderful. Make sure to leave room for dessert!
La Fonda is one of our favorite restaurants since our first visit! The staff is warm, friendly, and the food is always great. This visit we were with our 17 month old for a quick family dinner. They were very accommodating and kid-friendly. We love that there is such a family feel to this place!
The food was good as was the service. A bit pricey for what you get but overall a good experience.
Since we had our little boy, my husband and I get a date night only here and there. I'd been hearing about La Fonda for a long time but never got the opportunity to try it. We're so glad we did! The food was amazing! I highly recommend the arepas for appetizers. So delicious! My husband is normally not a fan of any kind of Latin food, but this place really changed his mind and he's looking forward to our next time here. The staff made us feel quite at home and even shared stories about their trips, experiences, and family. This is our new favorite designated date night spot, and we can't wait to bring our friends and family to experience the wonderful food, lovely atmosphere, and down-to-earth service!
The cazuela de mariscos is amazing! Easily the best dish there
Good overall. Staff was very friendly! Food was tasty, though for what I paid I might have expected a bit more. Still, I'll definitely be back, just maybe be a bit wiser with my order choices.
The taste and the presentation of the food was excellent. They also had some great cocktail options outside of the typical. Service was good, but ambiance was lacking. It was pretty empty for a Friday at 7pm, and felt too casual for a date with my husband. Simply dimming the lighting would have made a big difference. It was a great meal overall, just maybe not the best option for atmosphere.
Lovely quiet place with good service and very nice quality food
The food here is fantastic. High quality, fresh ingredients and very nice presentation. The decor is a little dated but service is super friendly and efficient. I recommend this place over some of the trendier type places popping up in the area.
Veteran fans of La Fonda. Has become our go to place for Easter dining as well as a destination for special celebrations. Will be returning soon to celebrate a friend's birthday. Food is well prepared and generous, and the moraritas are not to be missed.
Great Guacamole. Excellent Sangria. We had the SOBREBARRIGA and the CARNE ASADA. Everything was wonderful. There are other restaurants the serve the same type of food at better prices, but I don't regret going at all. The service was VERY good and the food was delicious.
The staff take great pride in the food and drinks here. It is a fun place with great flavors. The tostonachos are AMAZING.
They had exceptional service. Very accommodating for our guest! :)
The food was very and they were accommodating to our request.
Great food, as always. Friendly staff gives excellent service.
I called from Phoenix, AZ to purchase a Gift Card for my 12 year old niece to treat her mother to a birthday dinner. I must say Beatrice was my ANGEL!! She took care of everything. My niece was so nervous but excited that she would be able to pay for mommy's dinner. The restaurant was waiting for them and made sure the bday dinner was perfect! I received a text from my niece saying that her mommy felt it was the best bday dinner ever. I can't wait to personally meet Beatrice in a couple weeks when I travel to Chicago. It is my sister's favorite place to eat out there and from the pictures I received, I think it will be my favorite too.
I booked La Fonda on the recommendation of a friend, I wasn't disappointed. The food was batting higher than the price would indicate, and the drinks -- all that our party sampled -- were totally legit. I'm fond of the classic mojito, and La Fonda's did not disappoint (I had two!) The service could not have been more attentive and friendly. I'll be back!
I was looking for a cute and casual South American resturant to celebrate a birthday. We went on a slow night, we had the whole resturant to ourselves so service was great and they surprised my guest with a dessert for their birthday which was awesome.
Great food great place 😍
Excellent food -- friendly, attentive service -- nice ambience -- easy evening parking -- what more could you ask for?
Great service in a quaint little place. The food was very high quality, fresh and well prepared.
Definitely going back.
Good food.. Good service..
My boyfriend and I had the plato montanero.
Even their salsa was awesome, sweet then spicy.
Lechon was absolutely amazing, steak was tender and seasoned to perfection.
We will be returning to this restaraunt
The place was empty but waitress was not even friendly. Food was bland and overpriced for what it was. Will not be going back.
great food, the service is a bit slow, but it seems to be family owned so I am all about it!
Five of us had dinner at La Fonda early on a Saturday after a play matinee. Our group likes to share, so we started with a lot of appetizers and followed up with only a couple of entrees. The appetizers were more inventive then the entrees. The entrees were good but not particularly special.
The best appetizers we had were: Tostonachos Caribenos, Arepas Rellanas and Arepa de Choclo con Camarones.
The deserts were great!
The wine list tried to draw on a lot of Latin America, but the selections were modest in quality and price.
I definitely recommend La Fonda for the great service, appetizers and deserts
