La Focaccia Ratings and Reviews
The food was good and there were a number of items on the menu which I would have been happy to order. Pasta's were fresh and flavorful. Salads were interesting, tasty and not over dressed. Soup was delicious. Waiters were unsmiling and surly. Restaurant was louder than necessary making conversation a bit difficult. Overall I would return due to the paucity of equivalent food quality in the area. Given the prices ($30/entree; $20/pastas; $14 /salad) the if the wait staff was more welcoming, warmer while serving and more helpful I would be running back.
Servers are great, attentive, and often times were trying to pull plates off our table a bit too quickly during the main course. This got a bit annoying.
Ordered two fried appetizers that came out mushy due to clearly low temperature frying oil. Wife had a pasta special she enjoyed, I tried and found the sauce didn't stick to the noodles the way I'd prefer but it was still properly cooked and had good flavor nonetheless.
I also had a special, the sweetbreads, that were horrible. They were accompanied by a diner style side of steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The sweetbreads had no sauce on them and were cooked to a mushy state.
It's a restaurant I'd probably give another shot to trying some other dishes due to the service and extensive menu, allowing me to avoid anything they require oil to cook.
Every time we visit NJ we include a night of dining at our favorite all time restaurant in the US! Even though we haven’t been locals for six years, they greet us like old friends! The staff is friendly, helpful, attentive and professional. The food is always amazing no matter the season or the choices we make. They have the best oysters on the half shell! We always bring a lasagna dish with focaccia bread back to Virginia for our son who reminds us “he needs it!” Thanks to Brian and everyone there for another wonderful meal!
La Focaccia ia a gem on Morris Avenue. Away from downtown Summit, it is worth the drive. Its namesake focaccia in the bread basket is delicious and tastes like you're in Tuscany. Appetizers and salads abound - the recent shaved Brussels sprouts and baby kale I had were outstanding - heathy and extavagant all in one dish. Their housemade pastas are tender, creative, and exciting. I also had the veal parmigiana special - it is sometimes deceptively challenging to make a simple dish taste so good. Desserts were tempting, but we were too full and completely satisfied to indulge this time. I love this restaurant.
My wife and I went for her birthday. I indicated on Open Table that it was her birthday but didn’t request anything special and they still brought a lit candle with her dessert. It was very thoughtful and appreciated. Thank you La Focaccia for a memorable meal.
Nice place - good food - folks that eat their seem to be loud and not caring much about others -the area is one that has some demanding patrons - the staff wants to please - maybe that is why
demands are met -also - be prepared to look for a parking spot - sometimes not easy to find -
We arrived late after a concert with our children (around 9). Our server seemed more interested in going home than in making it a good experience. Shrimp you can buy at shop rite labeled Jumbo Shrimp at $4 each were regular small shrimp you get in any shrimp cocktail. When I said something the server just shrugged and walked away. A black bass with artichokes dish came with plain broccoli, carrots and mashed potatoes (all things I don't eat-the dish was almost $40. The other food was very good and if he server had been any good, I could have actually ordered something I would like. A true sad disappointment on an evening we were supposed to celebrate my birthday and the concert. I couldn't wait to leave.
Service was great and the food was excellent! I had the Linguini with White Clam Sauce which was good but could have used a little more oil, browned garlic, and clam juice for dipping your bread. I guess I'm just used to the way we make it. Also the portion is good for a woman not a guy who loves pasta, so I was a little disappointed in the serving size. The appetizers and my wife's meal were more than generous in size and delicious.
Would recommend to anyone as far as the attention and food! Great Place!
This was out 3rd visit to La Foccacia. The food was delicious. Two of us had the special which was veal Osso Bucco with Risotto. The portions were very big but the good thing is that it was awesome in flavor. The veal was tender and moist and did not even need a knife to cut through it. The sauce was excellent and the risotto was great. For apps, 4 of us shared the fried artichokes, grilled vegetables, and a sampler with 4 oysters, 4 clams, and lump crab meat. On a bit of a negative note, my husband had the black linguine with seafood and although the sauce was delicious and the calamari tender, the shrimp were very small and spongey. They reminded us of the watery shrimp cocktail rings that can be purchased at the grocery store. However, we would still return to this restaurant because we've had many delicious meals there.
One of our favorite NJ restaurants hands down. We have been enjoying this place for many years and Brian and his staff do everything they can to make everyone feel at home. As a BYO, they have nothing to present but the food and they surely do that right. The standard menu is outstanding and the daily specials take things up a notch.
This evening was perfect with great service and wonderful food. Our friends were trying this restaurant for the first time and they were wowed. The pork osso bucco was fork tender and flavorful. The risotto was also spot on. Two entrees of liver and onions brought back many great memories of grandmas comfort dinners. I peeked at another patron's plate of veal chop Parmesan and knew that I had to try it. It was most definitely a winner, with a rich tomato sauce and just enough cheese. Decadent desserts with coffees, espressos and cappuccinos rounded out a memorable evening. We always look forward to dining at LF.
We've been coming to LaFocaccia since the very beginning...going on 25 years now. The food is consistently good, and the service is wonderful. Must be because many of the same wait staff has been there all this time. Their experience shows! Fun for a special family dinner, date night, or a girls night out. Since it's BYO, the bill never gets out of hand. Highly recommended.
