La Focaccia Ratings and Reviews
We met friends for dinner at La Focaccia. Our meal was absolutely delicious. My appetizer was a warm goat cheese salad with arugula, which was fresh and wonderful. My entrée was the branzino with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and it was superb. All of us were members of the "clean plate club" with our entrees. I fed my chocolate craving with a wonderful sundae consisting of a chocolate brownie, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, served in a parfait glass. Our friends shared the key lime pie, which they loved. The only negative to the evening was that it was a Saturday night, the place was packed, and it was extremely noisy.
LaFocaccia is the most consistent restaurant I have ever patronized. And I should know...I have been dining there essentially since the day it opened, twenty five years or so ago. There are never any surprises. Many of the wait staff are the same people who served me decades ago. Don't tell me that experience isn't valuable. It's worth is re enforced every time I walk through the door. If you seek an outstanding dining experience each time you show up, become a regular at La Focaccia. It is a uniquely fine restaurant.
Another great BYO with endless options for pasta, seafood, chicken and veal. We tried a grilled antipasto misto that was fabulous, as well as a Caesar salad. We enjoyed the pounded veal chop Parmesan which was a plentiful dish with just enough pasta, as a side, to satisfy. The dish was enough to share and so we did. Our other entree was the sauteed calves liver with onions. Growing up with liver on the menu for dinner, this was a comfort food and it did not disappoint. Always a great meal, with servers who are no nonsense. They are ever present and make sure your dining experience is memorable.
One of our favorite spots, where the food is consistently good, the service is professional and polite, and the dinner specials are great additions to the already very strong menu. We shared two starters: the fired artichokes which were fantastic--light and crispy, not heavy and greasy, and the tuna tartare. My husband ordered a pasta special and I had the grilled shrimp with white bean puree (my standard order!). The staff treats the guests like family and it is always a pleasure to return to La Focaccia.
My daughters and I have been celebrating my wife's birthday at La Foccacia for a number of years.
In addition to the delicious food, we always interact with the wait staff. Even though we don't dine there as often as we'd like, they always remember us. It makes for a very enjoyable dining experience.
This is a great restaurant. This is a restaurant where I frequently dine with my husband and friends. On this particular night, we were three women looking for a relaxing dinner. From the very beginning, I felt very rushed. I felt the staff was hovering to take our plates away the minute they thought we were done with our meal. When asked to see a dessert menu immediately after dinner, I informed the waiter that we wanted to relax for a bit before ordering dessert. The waiter seemed annoyed by my request. This was during the week where the restaurant was not at all busy, therefore, I felt there was no need to rush us through our dinner. All in all, the food is very good.
The food was good and there were a number of items on the menu which I would have been happy to order. Pasta's were fresh and flavorful. Salads were interesting, tasty and not over dressed. Soup was delicious. Waiters were unsmiling and surly. Restaurant was louder than necessary making conversation a bit difficult. Overall I would return due to the paucity of equivalent food quality in the area. Given the prices ($30/entree; $20/pastas; $14 /salad) the if the wait staff was more welcoming, warmer while serving and more helpful I would be running back.
Servers are great, attentive, and often times were trying to pull plates off our table a bit too quickly during the main course. This got a bit annoying.
Ordered two fried appetizers that came out mushy due to clearly low temperature frying oil. Wife had a pasta special she enjoyed, I tried and found the sauce didn't stick to the noodles the way I'd prefer but it was still properly cooked and had good flavor nonetheless.
I also had a special, the sweetbreads, that were horrible. They were accompanied by a diner style side of steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The sweetbreads had no sauce on them and were cooked to a mushy state.
It's a restaurant I'd probably give another shot to trying some other dishes due to the service and extensive menu, allowing me to avoid anything they require oil to cook.
Every time we visit NJ we include a night of dining at our favorite all time restaurant in the US! Even though we haven’t been locals for six years, they greet us like old friends! The staff is friendly, helpful, attentive and professional. The food is always amazing no matter the season or the choices we make. They have the best oysters on the half shell! We always bring a lasagna dish with focaccia bread back to Virginia for our son who reminds us “he needs it!” Thanks to Brian and everyone there for another wonderful meal!
La Focaccia ia a gem on Morris Avenue. Away from downtown Summit, it is worth the drive. Its namesake focaccia in the bread basket is delicious and tastes like you're in Tuscany. Appetizers and salads abound - the recent shaved Brussels sprouts and baby kale I had were outstanding - heathy and extavagant all in one dish. Their housemade pastas are tender, creative, and exciting. I also had the veal parmigiana special - it is sometimes deceptively challenging to make a simple dish taste so good. Desserts were tempting, but we were too full and completely satisfied to indulge this time. I love this restaurant.
My wife and I went for her birthday. I indicated on Open Table that it was her birthday but didn’t request anything special and they still brought a lit candle with her dessert. It was very thoughtful and appreciated. Thank you La Focaccia for a memorable meal.
Nice place - good food - folks that eat their seem to be loud and not caring much about others -the area is one that has some demanding patrons - the staff wants to please - maybe that is why
demands are met -also - be prepared to look for a parking spot - sometimes not easy to find -
We arrived late after a concert with our children (around 9). Our server seemed more interested in going home than in making it a good experience. Shrimp you can buy at shop rite labeled Jumbo Shrimp at $4 each were regular small shrimp you get in any shrimp cocktail. When I said something the server just shrugged and walked away. A black bass with artichokes dish came with plain broccoli, carrots and mashed potatoes (all things I don't eat-the dish was almost $40. The other food was very good and if he server had been any good, I could have actually ordered something I would like. A true sad disappointment on an evening we were supposed to celebrate my birthday and the concert. I couldn't wait to leave.
Service was great and the food was excellent! I had the Linguini with White Clam Sauce which was good but could have used a little more oil, browned garlic, and clam juice for dipping your bread. I guess I'm just used to the way we make it. Also the portion is good for a woman not a guy who loves pasta, so I was a little disappointed in the serving size. The appetizers and my wife's meal were more than generous in size and delicious.
Would recommend to anyone as far as the attention and food! Great Place!
