La Ferme consistently conspires to prepare superb food and to provide outstanding service. Wait staff professionals seem to be able to predict every request and never hover. All of this is accomplished in a classic, understated setting.
Great food really mediocre service. 35 minutes to order a drink after sitting down. Didn’t get better. Bar service was great should have stayed there.
Excellent meal. Our server, Pino, has been at this restaurant "forever."
Menu seemed expanded since our last visit with several memorable choices. All of our meals were prepared well and quite tasty. Portions were appropriate.
We did have the souffle for dessert but next time we would like to try the other options.
The food was the best we have had there in a long time. We remember when the menu would just have three or four listings and we'd bring friends and there was nothing anybody liked. That has all changed, the menu had numerous choices, they were all delicious (I had the oyster fricassee and the trout almondine) and the French cottage ambiance was, as always, a treasure. We especially enjoyed the live music from a very gifted pianist who played Gershwin and Irish songs (it was the day before St. Patrick's Day). We also remember when the service could be quite DeGaulian. This time everyone was quite cordial, and we had an excellent time there.
The ambiance at La Ferme is lovely. The food was quite good, except the French onion soup. It had a generous portion of cheese, but the soup itself was quite bland. It had neither a strong onion flavor, nor a well-flavored beef broth. My greatest dissatisfaction, however, was with our waiter. Although obviously very experienced, his attitude was one of distracted boredom. After taking our orders, another waiter brought our food, which is not unusual, but no one stopped by the table to see if we were satisfied with our orders. The original waiter never came to the table again. We had to catch the eye of another server in order to get our check, even though the first waiter was taking care of customers two tables away. Except for the unprofessional service of this one person, our overall experience was very good.
Lovely atmosphere and service. Quiet which is a rare quality these days. Food good and reasonably priced. Not a foodie place however.
The food we ordered was very good, but not outstanding. The service was very slow in terms of receiving our food. The ambiance is nice. The live piano music is a plus.
This was our first visit to the restaurant. From the moment we walked in, they welcomed us warmly and found a nice table for us. The service was exceptional. The food was fresh, delicious, and the presentation was lovely. Nice bar area. Piano was a nice touch. Great place and will visit again and again.
Haven't been to La Ferme in years. Thought I'd give it a try. Everything was fine and pretty much as I remembered it. Menu selections were terrific and I think the prices were reasonable. My service was very spotty. It seems like our server forgot we were there in the in the middle of the meal and had to be summoned to clear plates, refill drinks and ask for a dessert menu and a check at the end. Other than the service I give it 4 stars.
The servers do not welcome you, or make you feel that they appreciate that guests are dining at La Ferme. They simple show up at your table, saying what do you want to order? When you ask a question, they are a bit abrupt. On one dining occasion, it took 30 minutes to be acknowledged. The guests at the next table made a phone call to the host just to get attention, asked for bread and to place their order. It took a longer time than usual to receive a bottle of wine. On the first dining occasion, we thought our server was simply overwhelmed. But on our second experience, it was the same. Food was fine. Service was not.
WOW!!! We were blown away by the food, the decor and the wait staff. We drove 1-1/2 hours each way and it was worth every mile!
This restaurant is a neighborhood gem. The food is quite good and consistent. The service is outstanding. We especially like the fact that there is parking on the premises. The noise level on Saturday night was bothersome. We were seated next to a party of four who were extremely loud.
Loved the food, ambiance, decor, and service. Had a lovely date with my husband. My only criticism is that our dessert souffle was underdone and soupy.
Our first time at this restaurant and we can't wait to go back.
Always an excellent choice. Longtime Chef does a great job and keeps the menu at very high quality. This restaurant cares about its customers and it shows by the excellent staff-having been there for many years of great service
Loved the food, but it was (in contrast to Sunday's WaPo review) a bit noisy and service was slower>prompt
Great food and would go again!
We had a very enjoyable evening, with good food and good service in a very pleasant atmosphere.
The ambiance is really comfortable in an old-fashioned way. The service is very attentive and pleasant. Food is well prepared and very good, but not exciting for those looking for something different. Music is piano player and is in background so does not interfere with conversation. Pianist takes requests. Very pleasant spot for an intimate evening for two or for friends catching up on evening out.
Delightful experience, food was wonderful, service great. Beautiful old "farm house" setting.
The sun room was lovely on this surprising spring day in the middle of winter. Wonderful seafood dishes.
service was excellent enjoyed the food will come back
always love coming here, food, service and ambiance are perfect
Food was a bit of a mixed bag this visit with smoked salmon, quiche, and chocolate mousse cake being wonderful and onion soup and frittata being just ok. Malbec by the glass was very good but at $12 each, a bit pricy. Service was on point until our waiter got involved in setting up a table for a large party. I am biased, I like this place, even when everything is not perfect.
Always amazing! There are a few menu items that are difficult to find at other DC area restaurants and even more difficult to find well prepared. La Ferme gets it right every time.
First and last time there. Went for Valentine's Day dinner. They substituted the regular menu for a fixed menu, as I anticipated, but it was extremely over priced and a major disappointment in terms of what was offered. They should have kept the regular menu and just tripled the prices. There would have been a better selection. As it was, the appetizer, a crab cake was mediocre, the dessert, assorted miniature pastries a joke and tasteless. My entree, seafood fricassee was tasty but you didn't get very much seafood. Overall very disappointed. Will not return.
Overall a lovely place. Would definitely come back!
Service was a little rushed until we pushed back the second time. Sole with shrimp mousse was good but a bit under seasoned. Salads were excellent. Great table; love the fireplace and live piano playing. Always a good experience overall.
La Ferme is a pleasant French restaurant w nice ambiance. Lunch menu is varied, offering several fish options and specials. Tables have white tablecloths and a small vase of fresh flowers which is nice. Seating on the porch is very pleasant in the warmer months. Have enjoyed lunch here several times recently, and the food and service have been consistently good.
The piano music was not dinner music but just added noise.
Le Ferme was a great place to celebrate our V Day dinner. To our surprise we were taken upstairs to a table for two behind closed doors on a balcony setting overlooking the restaurant. It was cozy and private as the doors were closed the whole time. The menu was authentic and they also had a superb wine list. My wife and I had the chateaubriand for two. Cooked to perfection and the potato au gratin was creamy and delicious. Even though we had a potato side with dinner, you just have to order the truffle parmesan fries. Dessert.... the soufflé was out of this world with four different flavors offered. As for the service, we were well taken care of by various servers whom kept the wine flowing. We look forward to going back.
The service as well as the food were delicious. I plan on returning and would highly recommend La Ferme.
I have not heard of anyone who was disappointed by a special meal at La Ferme, unless they dislike French cuisine. The staff made us feel like special guests from start to finish, and the food and service were perfect.
We went to Brunch. The food was great and the service was perfect. I will be back
Service was great as was the food. La Ferme Lived up to expectations!
An old-fashioned delightful place to spend a cozy evening
This is a nice, quiet restaurant for cozy dining with excellent food and service. The price is slightly on the high side but I come here at least once a year and up to three times, mainly for special occasions. There is live piano playing (at least for the Friday evening we were there) playing soft music and accepting requests. The ambiance is quite nice. I would recommend wearing a jacket, pants and perhaps a tie however there are some individuals (who I deem as lower class) wearing jeans -- I do believe in dressing for the occasion.
The below picture is of swordfish steak over mashed potatoes covered with a socatash. Our two dinners and a bottle of wine and one dessert to share was approximately $120 without tip.
A lovely respite, with an appealing menu, reasonable prices, and affable staff. What more can you ask for?
Our lunch at La Ferme was most enjoyable. The staff was welcoming, the food was tasty, and the ambiance was pleasant.
