The food, ambiance, and general atmosphere was wonderful. Our server was very disrespectful, however. We arrived five minutes early for our 9pm reservation. When we were seated, the server immediately came over and asked what we were having to drink before giving us a drink menu. When we ordered drinks, he asked what we wanted for dinner. We ordered appetizers and asked him to come back. He told us in a very rude manner that the kitchen was about to close and we needed to order now if we wanted more than appetizers. It was 9:08, the kitchen closes at 9:30 for orders. We then heard him having an attitude with other people who worked there. When he did take our entree order, he seemed like he was in a rush and didn’t actually wait for us to finish ordering before he snatched the menus away (9:11). He never came back to check on us. We saw him talking to other servers, but never came back to ask us if we needed anything, how our meal was, or for any other reason. Another server brought us our check so we could leave.

Everything was wonderful and it would have been the perfect night if our server hadn’t hurried us so much and been so rude.

I can always count on La Ferme for elegance and good food. In the many years I've been eating there, it's always consistent and never a disappointment. It's one of a kind!

La ferme never disappoints. My husband and I went for our joint birthday celebration on a Tuesday night. The service was good - not perfect - our waiter was in a long conversation with another table so we literally had to flag him down to get an after dinner drink but otherwise good.

Excellent french food, polite staff, romantic setting, but service with annoying hickups. Our order was lost, waited an extra 40 min (!!!!) for the desert. Not quite satisfied -- expected smoother service for this price range.

Good place for quiet lunch conversation with old friends; attractive dining room. ample parking. service has slipped since I was last there many months ago. Food was uneven. Good soup of the day. Roasted vegetable frittata very disappointing. overcooked and dry. sweet potato fries very tasty.

Hi. We've been to this restaurant three times in the past six months. Once for brunch on Mother's day, lunch with our kids, and the other night for dinner. Every time I've enjoyed the food, ambiance and decor of this lovely restaurant. When we brought our children, they loved how fancy it felt and I loved how nice the waitstaff was to them.

However, though the waitstaff is lovely, it seems they need a Maitre D' overlooking them. The other night we were completely forgotten by our waiter and felt less than good with his demeanor. There was a table of what seemed to be regulars next to us and the he seemed to be more concerned with them than with us. He passed right by us several times and never gave a quick check-in. He moved so quickly and with his head in the air, that I couldn't grab his attention. I should mention that it took a very long time for us to get our menus in the first place and when he did approach, he didn't seem to care that we were there. After he finished taking our order, we shared one of those eye-contacts that said, "yikes, we are an insignificant."

It was one of those evenings when we our water glasses weren't replenished and he never gave a nod to see if we needed anything as he rushed by to help the other table. He did voluntarily replace my bowl of empty mussel shells when it was full, but that was it. I observed another table finally stand up to go find a staff person to pay their bill. I heard her say (nicely), "I don't know what you all are doing back here, but we've been waiting to pay this bill." We waited a long time too. The other staff are very attentive when they are paying attention, but they don't seem to have a system of paying attention and there are gaps in their actual presence in the room.
Regardless, I would recommend La Ferme to others and I will go back, but I would warn them of the service and pray not to have that same waiter. He was an older gent with a pony tail and a (French?) accent. Sorry.

The service was pretty sloppy. Not only the food took forever to get to the table, and between courses, but the waiter didn’t bother to explain the delay, pour more wine, or simply ask whether we needed anything. I cannot wait to have more dinning options in Chevy Chase

If you like French food you'll like La Ferme ...it was a very good experience. My wife and I had dinner there on a Saturday night to celebrate my birthday.

The bar area is small but appropriate for a nice restaurant ...about 8 bar seats and three high-top tables for two. The bartender was pleasant without being intrusive ...he came over to us within just a few minutes of us sitting down. After that the service was very attentive without being overbearing.

The restaurant is a good size without being too large. We did wait a little longer than we're used to waiting before our server presented the menu and discussed specials. Then again, this is a fairly pricey restaurant so I didn't want to be rushed.

The food was excellent. My wife had a lobster bisque and I had the soup du jour -- split pea with ham. They were both very good. For dinner my wife had mussels and I had venison medallions ...both were excellent. We finished by sharing a chocolate souflee, which was quite good.

All in all a great night.

Excellenct authentic French food in Chevy Chase, MD. I'd kind of vaguely heard about this place but never really focused on it. My boyfriend loves French food so after reading some reviews, we tried it. Delicious! There were so many things he wanted to try that he had two appetizers and an entree. And still insists we need to go back at least 4 times. The salmon pasta appetizer was mouth watering. And I ordered the regular scallop appetizer but got the special - scallop with pumpkin ravioli and spinach; I was halfway through before I realized it wasn't what I ordered (scallop on top of corn and tomato salad) but it was delicious so I kept eating. He had the roasted chicken with couscous and I had a dinner special - espresso encrusted NY strip with red wine shallot jus, Parmesan truffle fries and green beans. He loved the chicken, and it was nice and moist and very hot. My steak and fries were terrific - great flavor on the steak and the fries were hot and crispy - but the green beans were just average. We finished with hazelnut soufflé - light, airy and not overly sweet. My only disappointment is that I left half my steak on the table because I forgot my doggy bag. We'll definitely be back and I've already recommended it to a friend!

Had a weekday dinner for my husband’s birthday. The week before we ate at Le Diplomate and to be honest the food and ambiance and cake at Le Ferme was superior. It’s a consistently good restaurant with a lovely atmosphere.

We are "LA FERME" believers. This restaurant, unlike so many, gets better with age. I had the House Made Taurine of Foie Gras for an appetizers. Excellent (although, could i get a second piece of bread?) My bride had the Mescluin Salad with goat cheese. Main course was rack of lamb and really the most delicious lobster risotto i have ever had. Top off with a Hazelnut souffle. Seriously, does it get better. All brilliantly served by our server Harusha.

We had a delightful evening with old friends. The ambience was great in a beautiful setting that reminded me of my years in France dining in quaint French village restaurants. The service was good and the meals were delicious and cooked perfectly to our specifications. We could easily carry on a good conversation without any disturbance from other diners. I had the grilled pork which was superb. The Pouilly Fuisse was a perfect compliment and reasonably priced. We and the other couple are sophisticated diners and eat out quite often. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our dinner (lobster bisque, chateaubriand, grand marnier chocolate cake). The service was outstanding. We were attended to promptly and graciously, but never felt overwhelmed or rushed. We asked for a quiet table and were placed at one that was (relatively) quiet. The waiter suggested that we sit side by side to avoid the noise of people passing by in back of one of us. This was a good suggestion, and even better because we could both watch as our main dish was prepared and plated. I've been to La Ferme before, but not for dinner, and it was my husband's first visit. We will return.

We had a great evening from start to finish. We were celebrating my husband's 75th birthday and wanted a quiet table (requested in my reservation). The host recognized this and mentioned it and gave us a choice of a couple of tables; we chose the corner one next to the piano player and it was perfect. They apparently somehow put a sound softener on the piano, so it was lovely and just the right noise level. The pianist is also very good and friendly.

Drinks, food, service, etc. was outstanding and we look forward to returning again, hopefully soon.

My husband and I have been to La Ferme a couple of times on our own but wanted to celebrate my son's birthday with two of his friends recently. It is such a high to go here. The ambiance is so great, the service impeccable, and the food just divine, and on this Saturday night the pianist played Happy Birthday several times much to our singing enjoyment. Everyone had a wonderful time, and we left very happy. Bless this wonderful restaurant!

La Ferme is authentic French. The dining room is beautiful with perfectly set tables. We enjoyed, among other things, Mushroom Soup, Trout Almondine, Mushroom Fricassee. The food is very rich and buttery, but then it is French, right? We also enjoyed a very nice bottle of Pouilly Fuisse.

We went to La Ferme to celebrate my mother's birthday. It's always a good option for the "older set." The service and speed of the entire meal was a little too quick for my taste but I'm sure others would find it appropriate. I rated the service a 3 for this reason. The food was good but I found the rock fish special to be very mass produced. I rated the food a 3 for this reason. On a very positive note they do have the best souffles!!

I always forget how good La Ferme is - maybe because it's in Chevy Chase. But the food is really outstanding and not as heavy as you'd think French food would be. My only complaint was that they sat me, my wife and my very elderly parents near a door by the patio where the wait staff went in and out, opening and closing the door constantly. It was also chilly, which didn't help. I'm not sure I would seat anyone near that door when the patio is open.
