La Defense Ratings and Reviews
Delicious French food!!!!
It felt like home (I am French)!
And everyone was really attentive and nice.
Wine was amazing too.
I was also surprised by great live music.
Apparently they have it Saturday night and Sunday for brunch and dinner.
We had a really beautiful evening :)
I' ll definitely recommend it!
Wanted to try this place for ages. Weekends are quiet as it’s in a business district and busy on week days. Service is welcoming and friendly. Waiter patiently explained the menu and offered recommendations. Crepe with goat cheese is some of the best I️ have had. Ricotta pancakes are also excellent and light. They come with delicious banana, walnuts and syrup. Cafe viennois is flavorful and served in a generous glass with homemade whipped cream! Nutella crepe for dessert is generous, filled with fresh bananas and drizzled with just enough Nutella. This place had French rustic decor perfect for a birthday, date or friends get together.
Although OpenTable had available reservations at 9am, upon our arrival we were told the kitchen would not open until 9:15. That was not a major problem however when the waiter came by to take our order, he then informed us that due to a problem in the kitchen, neither of the Eggs Benedict dishes were available. I’m not sure what sort of kitchen problem would prevent them from making Eggs Benedict unless it was an ingredients ordering snafu and they didn’t have the ingredients to make it (but again, they seemed to have eggs, butter and bread so what was missing...english muffins? Lemon (for the hollandaise)? Canadian ham? Seems that a quick trip to Trader Joe’s could have solved the problem.). My friend’s said her cassoulet was good. Her husband and I had the pancakes. The kitchen was accommodating when I asked if they had blueberries and, if so, could I get some in my pancakes, however, when I got one third of the way into my pancakes, the inside was not fully cooked. Ick...nothing worse than the taste of raw flour batter. They did make me a whole new dish which was great. There seemed to be just one waiter and he was clearly overwhelmed because he never returned to check on us or refill our coffees during the meal. We only saw him again when he delivered the check. In summary, while I can’t pan them totally because they were nice and accommodating, the menu limitations, kitchen errors, delayed opening and insufficient number of waitstaff make me unable to recommend this restaurant until they improve their operations.
Terrific French bistro with good service, excellently curated and good value wine list. All of the classics are here and on a cool fall evening they hit the spot. Our go-to bistro near Jay st/metro tech-consistently good over multiple visits. Good outdoor seating on the myrtle promenade as well.
Spent a lot of time waiting on the server. Once the order was submitted, drinks came back pretty quickly.
The restaurant wasn't busy, but a few dishes on the menu were not available. When our food did ultimately arrive, it came cold. All 3 dishes were served cold. I did see the restaurant prepping for a shower (bridal, I believe) - so perhaps that's why they were distracted. I won't go back to find out.
Friendly and authentic feel, though staff-shortage in the kitchen meant service was a bit slow. We appreciated the gesture of a comped glass of wine in response to that situation. We found the interior air-con a bit heavy so moved outside and enjoyed the open-air feel of. a warm evening. Aperol Spritz was long on sparkling water and a bit short on Aperol/Prosecco, but all our food was excellent and Well-presented. Would certainly re-visit or use regularly if we lived nearby.
I made resaveration on Open Table for a small wedding dinner for my friend. On our arrival the manager greeted us and congratulated my friend on her wedding. (which was very nice). We all have different taste buds, but we all found something on the menu that was pleasing to each of us. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Will recommend La Defense to all my friends. -Kyle
We arrived during happy hour. The dining area surrounds the bar, so the noise level was pretty high. Lots of people enjoying Friday night. Food was excellent, but soup was lukewarm. Would go back for the food, maybe at a different time, or for drinks anytime.
We went on a Friday night around 10 pm so the music was loud and most people were drinking. Service was not very good at first but then the waiter realized we were waiting on him and he was very apologetic and sweet, and even offered us cocktails on the house. The food was great only the sauce with the scallops was ridiculously salty. The pistachio crusted salmon was delicious along with the apple tart, which comes with some ice cream. I'm sure if we went during a quieter hour the service, ambiance and music level would be much more appropriate.
Great place, but with two major drawbacks the night that I went.
1. There was a DJ whose music was FAR too loud and aggressive for the otherwise gentle ambiance. Any other type of performance would have fit in well.
2. The service was great, but my date and I were parched by the time we got out of there. Water pitchers for the tables would be welcome.
Service - While i was waiting on my friend, 3 different waiters walked by me without even looking at me for 15mins. Only once my friend arrived, they filled out our water glasses and asked if i wanted to drink something.
Food - I order the eggs benedicts which was definitely NOT that. No English muffin which eggs are supposed to be on. The ham was some hard bacon that broke into pieces when trying to eat it same as the "harsh brown", way over cooked/hard. Finally the Hollandaise sauce was not what they were serving, didn't taste anything like it.
We made reservations through Open Table and they had openings until 11. We chose 10 pm at La Defense after carefully considering a handful of restaurants in the area. When we showed up, they said they were already closed, even though they did see our reservations on the computer! If they wanted to close early then they should have updated their OpenTable account or at least called us and let us know! We went all the way there to be told they wouldn't serve us! How unprofessional! Probably will not give this place another try. Get it together, La Defense.
