Always a great meal! Never a miss.
My first time at La Cuchara was a delicious experience. We went for restaurant week and the fixed price dinner allowed many options. I opted for the anchovies in garlic with herbs as a starter. Paired with some of the delicious array of fresh breads, these were great bites. My entree of Grilled Bronzino was perfectly grilled but the fresh green beans were the star of the plate. The fixed price dessert options were very limited. If the ice cream selection was included it would have been better. I rated service slightly lower as, after our initial seating our water never asked if we wanted beverages. We had to catch him each time we wanted something else or refills. There was a large bar crowd. This looks like an active after work meeting spot.
We went for restaurant week and overall found the food to be disappointing and overpriced.
They seemed understaffed given that it was restaurant week.
One of the entrances to the parking lot by the restaurant is extremely narrow but allows traffic both ways. It’s very dangerous. This need to be corrected ASAP.
The interior is beautiful and tasteful so I did like that, but the acoustics are poor, so it was very loud.
Overall, a lackluster experience. I would not return or recommend to others.
Restaurant Week is a tough time to judge a place you're visiting for the first time, but our table for four had a solid, positive experience. The menu was imaginative, the food was excellent, our low-end wine selection It was a busy night but out wait lady was attentive. We look forward to a return visit soon.
Great experience and food was delicious! I'll definitely go back, will probably sit in the bar area just to see what that experience is like. Granted, it was Restaurant Week so as the evening went on, our server was less attentive, the more crowded and noiser it became and we felt a little rushed towards the end as if other guests were waiting for a table. However, I would go back, again, and I've already recommended La Cuchara to others!
Great food had to wait a little long but was worth it. Was a little busy due to restaurant week but that’s expected. Great experience
Great service! Great food! Brandon (not sure if that’s his name-Brazilian guy-) was a great server and made the experience memorable. This was our first time at la cuchara and for sure will not be the last! A must try!!
Why would I write a review for open table when open table decided our reservation would not be eligible for credit?
The food was terrific. The service was not as good as we would like (had to ask a couple of times for sugar, they forgot a drink, never refilled water or asked about it). I'd still go again because the food was soooo good! And I think they were trying on service, the place was just incredibly busy.
Homemade bread is extremely worth it. Waiters are knowledgeable about the menu which is good because the cuisine is unique and not necessarily something most people will be familiar with. Get the patatas bravas. It's enough for the whole table and delicious!
We have dined at La Cuchara many times. It is always excellent; the best restaurant in Baltimore.
We love La Cuchara and try to get there as often as we can. Restaurant Week = even better!
Every item we ordered was divine. The service was also wonderful. Everywhere else I go - I compare to this gem and the others all fall short.
One of our favorite restaurants! Service is impeccable; food is wonderful, a varied and interesting menu with helpful explanations by the server; and we love the half- priced wine on Sundays (for wines of $100 or more). We have tasted some amazing wines we probably would not ave tried at full price.
Everything was great except the food was overly salty
Perfect mix of attention and food choices. The menu is varied enough and the food rich enough to satisfy any appetite or taste. The bend over backwards to satisfy the client.
Love, love everything about this place! The host was wonderful and mindful of the diners’ experience. Food and ambiance is like a European destination
Fabulous evening - loved our waitress and the food and ambiance
Great gourmet tasting dinner - the amount of food was perfect and every course was superlative!
Great food, great setting, not so great service from our waiter. She seemed put off by our menu questions and in a hurry for us to put in an order. All in all it was a very good dining experience and the food and ambience exceeded our expectations, the service just left us feeling a little disappointed.
This place is amazing, great food and wine. Good service .
We enjoyed our Christmas Eve dinner at La Cuchera. The food was delicious and the service was perfect - our server made suggestions and was around when we needed him. The sommelier made an excellent recommendation and was also there when we needed him.
Fantastic food and even better service! Can’t find a better dining experience in Baltimore.
We had great service, very attentive staff, but never felt rushed. Our wine flight, appetizers, and main dishes were excellent and we really enjoyed our experience. This is a super romantic restaurant I would recommend to anyone. I highly recommend that you make a reservation. Yes, I will go there again, and try out other wonderful options on the menu.
We have dined at La Cuchara multiple times. This was the worst experience not sure we will come back.
The menu had changed significantly. We didn’t think that on the current menu it was much to choose from, especially appetizers.
We ordered sword fish and it came out undercooked - had to return.
Drinks were lacking alcohol - had to return.
Waiters were very nice but not enough of them to help.
Lots of large parties. Which is not a problem if there are enough personnel
Great food with great atmosphere. Portions are HUGE, tasty, and well crafted
Best restaurant in Baltimore!
I used to lived in Pais Vasco, worked in restaurants there, and wrote a food blog. While this was many years ago, the food made a lasting impression on me. Unfortunately, La Cuchara did not. If you want a nice dinner, go to La Cuchara. If you want a Basque meal, don't go to La Cuchara. Sure, the pintxos were fine, but the Gilda wasn't even properly constructed, lacking its signature Guindillo pepper to be replaced with a roasted red pepper. What? There was Jamon Serrano, which you can find all over Spain, but where was the Txistorra, the Basque version of chorizo? In Basque Country, you can't get away from Bacalao -- it's everywhere. Yes, there were "Bacalao croquettes" but what about the ubiquitous Bacalao al Pil Pil? Or Bacalao Ajoarriero? Delicious dishes nowhere to be seen. If La Cuchara can't source Bacalao, okay. But what about using the fish that they can source and actually making it a Basque dish? Don't even start me on the desserts. Churros? Churros are quintessentially of Madrid. The Basques hate the Madrileños. Pot de Creme? I never saw a Pot de Creme in Pais Basque or Pais Vasco. Never. What about Pastel Vasco? It is SO delicious. What about Goxua? What about a Walnut Pudding (Intxaursaltsa)? What about a cheese course with nuts and membrillo? Finally, and this is nit-picky, but I don't care. Why "croquettes" instead of "croquetas"? Why calamari instead of "calamares"? I know this country is very much influenced by France and Italy but would it be so hard to throw a few Spanish words on the menu?
Fabulously fun craft cocktails and bar area. The food was imaginative and delicious! Highly recommend :-)
Relaxing atmosphere. Food was thoughtful and well executed. Our favorite dish was the Bocadillo with cabbage. My husband loved the fried noodle dish. Our server was perfect.. there when we needed something and gave us our space for date night.
This was our first time and first experience eating this type of cuisine. Our waitress explained the menu perfectly for us giving us recommendations as well. The entire staff who were working hard around the restaurant were all exceptionally polite and accomadating. The food is high quality and unique (at least for around here). I would recommend this place for those who like trying new things and appreciate quality food.
10 top 30th bday party, incredible service and food! It was perfect!
My daughter, son-in-law, and I went to La Cuchara before 6:00pm on a Saturday. We were greeted warmly, and our server attended to us throughout. Two of us ordered the lamb shoulder which was a generous portion with wonderful flavor. The swordfish was equally appreciated along with the sides. We enjoyed the frothy sangria and also the server-suggested wine pairing. It was a delightful evening, and everything surpassed our expectations!
Our waitress guided us through the menu, even though we had peeked at it prior to our visit. We had the Jamon Croquettes, they were phenomenal. We had a plate of charcuterie, amazing. Drinks were a recommended by our waitress, “False Idol” very tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Outstanding food as always but we were blown away by the exceptional service. After making our reservation, the restaurant called to check in with us about the menu on offer. At our previous visit, many months back, the kitchen ran out of the sweetbreads we had ordered. Everyone was very apologetic at the time. Now the restaurant wanted to know whether we wanted sweetbreads on this visit and saved some for us — even though they weren’t on the menu that evening. After we arrived at the restaurant, the managers checked in with us about the sweetbreads several times. The dish itself was superb (best I have ever had), but it’s the solicitousness of the staff that will stick with me!
Another amazing meal and outstanding service. The food here by far is the best in Baltimore. The menu changes daily, and their are always options for everyone! The dishes are creative and the service is world class. We love it here.
Love La Cuchara —- great staff who remember the little things that matter.... cozy despite its size. Good choices - small and large.... good wines — basically a regular weekly spot! Much beloved!
Great experience, especially if you are tired of the same old things. The menu was creative, and everything we had was delicious but different to a moderate or large degree from what we are used to. The Chef put a lot of thought into creating contrasting and complementary textures as well as unusual pairings of flavors that surprised us by how well they go together. Example of moderate - everyone knows pork and apple works - but pork liver and apple butter? Different and divine. Example of large degree: turnips and breaded veal shank, it was new to us and fantastic. Parking is free and with that I noticed the cost of dinner for two at La Cuchara was about the same as the Cheesecake Factory, which was a happy surprise. Only complaint was the crowd noise, but that's probably unavoidable for a large space full of happy diners. We'll be back!
Nice dinner with tasty dishes sever by a smiling friendly waiter. Love the Cava!
Sort of like eating at Woodberry Kitchen with a menu of spanish-ish foods. Not feeling the authenticity here. Perfectly good quality dishes.
