We cannot afford to go out to costly restaurants except for special occasions. My wife and I went to Paris 4 years ago, and almost always choose French Cuisine for our "costly special occasion" meals. this restaurant was the BEST we've been to in Nassau County....and about 25% LESS costly than the others. Everything was wonderful.....we will be back....as often as we can!

My husband and I loved the baked oysters. My Dover sole was good but not excellent. My husband had the duck also was good. Would like to have more choices on champagne by the glass . My first glass wasn't cold . My second was in a frosted glass much better. Service was good.

Made a reservation on opentable, all that was available was 8.30 so we took it. I did note that we would like to be moved to 7.30, I also called on Thursday and spoke to someone and left the same msg.
We walked in at 7:40 for drinks at the bar and were seated immediately. Well, it was a nice surprise but someone should have contacted us in advance. The restaurant was not even full so I count that against them. Service was so so, we waited a long time for someone to come to our table, then we had to request a cocktail menu, then wait to take our drink order and did not get menus for at least 20 mins after that.... isn.t that what the hostess does ?
EScargot delish, dinner and crepe Suzette's were good. I feel we were not treated up to the standard of a four star restaurant so would not think about going again.

Waiter seemed offended we didn't order drinks. Someone else brought our food. Nobody ever asked how our meal was. OK at best on all fronts.

Disappointed that souffles were not being offered even though they are on the menu. Souffles were one of the main reasons for coming here.
My halibut, that was on the specials menu, was slightly over cooked, but still very good. The duck was raved about but the tuna was not top quality and even a little fishy.
Loved the artichoke appetizer and the desserts were strange. Who makes bananas Foster with just whipped cream and not ice cream? Had to ask for a side dish of ice cream to complete the dessert.
And I think the staff needs a lesson about coffees. Oh, BTW, even though French restaurants are known for their wine, beer is a big part of Euro food. How about a few beers that are not bud, Miller or Mexican.

The appetizers were very good. We had the blueprint oysters, cream of mushroom soup, French onion soup and the escargot. The oysters were very fresh and the soups were delicious. They did a great job on the roast duck but the two fishes we had were over cooked. The waiter asked us if we would like the salmon split for the kids which was very nice but it would also have been nice if we were informed that a $10 charge would be tabbed on. All in all the food was good.

I was expecting much better for the price. The place was nice and i expected the food to be phenomenal. The appetizers were good. We had paté which was excellent but i am certain they dont make it there. Im sure the paté itself was store bought and it was garnished there. I could be wrong. The french onion soup was good but that is really hard to mess that up.
For entreés we had the duck l'orange which needed a lot of seasoning. It needed more sauce and salt. I guess they cater to their demographic (older white people who do not use much salt in their cooking.) We also ordered the NY strip. It was cooked perfectly but like everything else it needed salt. We had the salmon. The mashed potatoes were great. The salmon itself was cooked perfectly but it needed salt. I know what you're saying..there is salt on the table. Why didnt i just add more salt? Its different if the protein was marinated in the seasoning rather than just adding it in the end. Besides, it's a semi-fancy restaurant. Why should i have to season my own food? You may think I'm just one person and this is one person's opinion. There were 3 of us and the consensus was the same.
The desserts are good but like the appetizers, i dont think they were made there or hard to mess up. I had the Napoleon which was good. We had the creme brulé which was on the sweet side but still good. They had a merengue with caramel sauce floating in vanilla cream. That was good too. The desserts were probably the stars of the night and saved dinner. I could be wrong. They probably make their desserts there but people expect their entreés to be perfect more than appetizers and desserts.
All in all, if I was in the neighborhood and needed something sweet I'd go back. Other than that, i wouldn't go unless someone with no taste buds has a party there for the ambiance. I wouldnt recommend this place unless you like your food BLAND. And I'm leaving my full name. Im not hiding behind some nickname because im telling you the truth.

Went for dinner ordered 2 appetizers, Tuna Tartare and Lump Crab. Too much onion took away all the crab flavor. Tuna tartare was good. Tuna Steak for dinner was fatty and extremely salty. Would not return due to poor food quality.

One of the best continental restaurants on LI. Duck is excellent as are all entrees. Save room for desserts including Floating Island (ouefs a la neige ) as well as the Napoleon and fruit tart.
After 30+ years as dependable as always.

Dined at La Coquille tonight for a friend's birthday. Fabulous food and excellent service. Our waiter, Giovanni, was very attentive, and even bought us a round of after-dinner liquors. Try the raw or baked oysters for an appetizer, and the rack if lamb was cooked to perfection. Old World feeling in a lovely atmosphere. I highly recommend it! We'll be back.

Old world lovely restaurant. Service very proper and accommodating. Only issue was we (55 yr olds) were certainly the youngest folks there. Lol. Best Caesar salad I’ve had in a long time! Delicious dessert cart offerings.

This being our second time and it was not nearly as good as the last time .... one meal was wrong...and our waiter insisted it is what we ordered...we did not...and we did not want to wait for a new dish, the duck was dry and salty, last time it was excellent we both ordered that..
Perhaps this was just an off night, but that should never happen at a well established place..

After driving past the restaurant for the past 20 years or so, I finally made a reservation to celebrate my wife's birthday. What a great move! Everything that we were served was excellent and great portions! We will definitely make it a point to return in the near future.
