La Coquille Ratings and Reviews
After driving past the restaurant for the past 20 years or so, I finally made a reservation to celebrate my wife's birthday. What a great move! Everything that we were served was excellent and great portions! We will definitely make it a point to return in the near future.
Honestly, for a restaurant that considers themselves classy and elegant, I expected better service. At these prices, when the waitstaff is dressed in tuxedos and they are trying to give off a high-end vibe, they should not be auctioning off the food when it comes to the table, especially when there were only two of us dining. They should know who ordered what. Ridiculous. And the waiter shouldn't ask me what we're drinking when we ask for a second round of drinks. You already wrote it down. Don't be lazy. Check what you wrote and bring us a second round. Amateurs. Checking in was a bit unorganized with no designated area to wait, and the waiter kept referring to us as "you guys" instead of sir and/or ma'am. I get it that we were probably the youngest couple in the place by 30 years so he felt he could be a bit casual with us, but it was a little rude and assuming. I'm not your friend. This is the first time I'm meeting you and I'm your customer. Address me properly. "You guys" is how I would be addressed at a fast food restaurant. The food was okay, and the room we sat in was quaint and quiet. Probably won't go back.
The food here is always pretty good. Even though we were warned about the size of the foie gras serving, it was still much smaller than other places we've been to with comparable prices. Otherwise the duck a l'orange and Arctic char special were both very good. Service is always friendly and prompt.
La Coquille has become our favorite local restaurant
We brought friends who had never been there
Roast Duck and Liver and were very satisfied
I think they will return again
What else can I say that I haven't said before
I'll be in Florida for the winter but will return to this authentic French restaurant on the spring
My wife ordered the tenderloin and it was kind of bland. I ordered the steak frites and it had good flavor. The real disappointment was dessert. My wife and I ordered souffles. When they came my wife's was presentable, however mine exploded and it was leaking on the side. Needlessly to save I was not happy with the presentation of the souffle and sent it back and asked the waiter to make another. The older gentlemen waiter said it was not possible as they only have 2 ovens available, it was dinner rush hour and he was doing me a favor as they do not normally serve souffles on Fridays and Saturdays. This was not stated anywhere on the menu.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt and he offered something from the dessert cart. As my wife dug into her souffle it was practically undercooked and inside was not fluffly at all, just a leaky mess. When the bill came, to my surprise they had charged me for the dessert cart and i was furious at this point. After speaking with the older waiter he took off the souffle charges, but my wife and I were very disappointed with our experience as she mainly had a souffle craving and expectations were not met. We went there a few years ago so not sure what has changed. One thing is that they should fire their pastry chef as he/she cannot even make a decent souffle.
I normally don't give one star reviews but the experience that night was a complete disappointment and we may not return.
French food is hard to find these days but La Coquille is the place to go. This lovely restaurant in a small strip mall is great. It has a varied menu plus specials. My husband had the onion soup and the halibut special. He enjoyed both very much. I had the Cesar salad hand the duck a la orange. Both were excellent. My sides were wild rice and vegetables. For dessert there were many choices. I had the napoleon and my husband the chocolate mousse. It was a wonderful evening. I highly recommend this place for great food and the drinks were great too.
