Fun concept. Not a huge food menu, but everything we had was delicious!! Fantastic guacamole. For sure get the fish taquitos, they are fantastic!! Everything on the menu is designed to share so we had a ton of food and left all super full and very satisfied
I had Huevas Condesa and thought it was fabulous. My wife had the shrimp dish which she was told was not very spicy and she could not finish...too spicy. Waitress was attentive and friendly but menu knowledge was lacking somewhat. I would go back...I like spicier food but I will be alone.
Service was extremely slow and one of the 4 dinner plates was delivered 10 minutes after the other 3 meals and no apologies or credits on bill after spending 150 dollars on drinks, apps and main courses...Won't be going there again with my friends or out of town guests.
My husband and I had a great meal at La Condesa. The patio was great for outdoor dining on a beautiful day, we had a couple of cocktails but the La Condesa Margarita was our favorite! Really enjoyed the tuna ceviche as well as the masa dish (we got the one with mushrooms).
Our first Visit to Austin was topped off with some delicious foods. We ordered a couple things so we could try different dishes. All three plates were flavorful. The Acapulco ceviche fresh and delicious and they accommodated my no avocado request. The octopus was so tender and the lamb barbacoa taquito hearty and filling. There were two so we could split that order. Top it off with the flourless chocolate cake dessert and you will be happy happy!!
We have always liked La Condesa in spite of it's limited menu, because the food was very good and the margaritas were great. Since our last visit, La Condesa has changed it's menu. Unfortunately, it was not for the better. To be fair, we were there for the lunch menu, so I'm not sure if the dinner menu was as badly impacted. The tortas (sandwiches) are pretty bad now. They tout the home made bread, but that doesn't make up for the soggy tortilla chips stuffed into the sandwich or the overall lackluster taste. Their great soup is not longer offered, but the ceviche is pretty soupy, so perhaps that makes up for it. Good news is that the tacos and margaritas are still very good.
This is a truly mixed review, mostly good things to say but some not. First, the good. The menu is creative and interesting. They seem to pay a lot of attention to using good ingredients and nothing pre-prepared (they don't even serve cherries in the bar because they are "preserved"). The cochinita pibil was tasty. The guacamole we chose was excellent, as were several of the different salsas. The drink menu is interesting with some very creative drinks using tequila and mezcal. Our server was very nice, attentive and helpful. We were seated on time according to our reservation. Now the weak points: portions were fairly small and prices are moderately high. My main complaint is that the dishes were delivered to our table of 4 helter skelter, not at the same time, in fact several minutes apart. The server explained that their dishes were designed to share, as a justification for the delays. OK, I get the share-able plates thing but some of their plates really aren't that share-able. And trying to share the pork dish, for example, between four people gives everyone one small taco. And then you wait for something else to show up. So, the bottom line experience was fragmented and much slower than seemed reasonable. At the end, appetizers, 4 bar drinks and 4 share-able plates cost $140. I never have a problem spending $$ on good food and drink, but this experience left me and my guests less than impressed. Kinda sad to say that because the food itself was quite good.
All entrees were delicious. The special Saturday night was an exceptional red fish prepared with flair. The chulet (pasilla glazed pork chop) will make any meat lover very happy. The zanahoria, a mixed carrot salad, was fantastic and surprisingly a huge hit even with the meat lover of our group. Do not leave without trying one of the sorbets!
Love this place! We had a concert next door @ The Moody Theatre and we forgot to print our tickets. So we asked our waiter of there was a manager onsite that could print the tickets for us... sure enough... THERE WAS!! He made it so easy for us to give him our information and in about 5 minutes we had our tickets printedout. WOW. Thats awesome customer service!! Thank you La Condesa! This is a must try place!!
