We had dinner here on Valentine's Day. The food was fantastic from the lobster bisque, escargot to the seafood pasta and ribeye. Everything we had is amazing! From the moment we walk in we were greeted and seated immediately, to our friendly server who did an amazing job. Inside was very cozy but I didn’t like how it was sectioned off and had more of a house feeling than a restaurant. Overall it was another great dinner.
Normally one of my favorites but -as most restaurants on Valentine’s Day-kitchen was so busy our steaks came cold.
This is random, though. Any other time I’ve been there is outstanding in every aspect.
Great Valintine's Day dinner. May be the best place in town because do many places are crowded.
Jacking up the prices for valentines day, i get it. But multiply by 3 the cost of everything on the menu is just outrageous.
Valentine’s Day so the venue was very busy. Service was subpar and the lights were extremely bright. What we expected to be a quiet, intimate dinner felt more like Chili’s. Will likely try again but on a calmer weeknight.
It’s been awhile since I ate here and forgot how wonderful the food and service was. Will definitely be going back soon
The food is hands down some of the best in Houston, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere elegant. The artwork and decor are both beautiful. Come dressed up, you’ll feel you’re some place very special and your date will feel feel special, too.
An incredible meal on new years eve, my wife thoroughly enjoyed the seafood pasta and thought the rack of lamb was the brst i havecevrr had, a great meal.
La Colombe d'Or is a beautiful structure. It could be more beautiful inside if it was more nicely appointed but it is still very nice. The food was outstanding but the service was not polished in any stretch of the imagination. For such a gorgeous stately dining establishment you would think the service would be outstanding. It felt more of a friendly neighborhood type of establishment with the casualness of the wait staff. Will definitely return though because the food was outstanding!
We had an amazing time at La Colombe d'Or for my husband's birthday dinner. From the beginning to the end, we were waited on hand and foot. The food was DELICIOUS, we had wonderful wine, and the atmosphere was so intimate. We had a tour of the art gallery after our meal. We felt like we had a celebrity VIP experience and could not have asked for more.
I made a reservation for my parents' 45th wedding anniversary. The manager and staff at this restaurant were so lovely and helpful in making the night special for my parents. They had champagne upon my parents' arrival, presented them with the gift I left with the manager, and were very involved in celebrating my parents, who were visiting from out of town. My parents loved the food and ambience, as well. Top notch experience.
Love this place.
One of our "go to" fine dining options in town
Always the best.
Wonderful service, and food!!
The food is delicious and the service is always top notch. We took advantage oh HRW but would and will continue to order of the regular menu. Very much worth the expense. Highly recommend.
What a disappointment! La Colombo d'Or has been a favorite of mine for special occasions for years. I hadn't been there in a long time, but chose it to celebrate my companion's milestone birthday. We waited 10-15 minutes after being seated before we had to flag a waiter to ask about a drink and to get menus. While my food was good, my partner's was not. I had attached a note to my reservation indicating that it was a special birthday and would have hoped that the restaurant would have at least wished him a happy birthday or done something to make it memorable, but alas it was a quite forgettable evening.
Restaurant location is interesting due to the historic designation. A couple of unique menu items and food was well-prepared. Even though the service was timely, the wait staff was not particularly warm, nor did they make us feel that welcomed. Maybe that was due to their volume during Houston Restaurant Weeks, but certainly not my typical experience on the Houston restaurant scene.
Service was excellent and spot on. My steak came out almost Med well when I ordered Med rare. However they brought Med rare out and tasted great. Rest of food was amazing. Highly recommend
Great food, ambiance and service. Francisco rocks! We will be back.
Classic atmosphere and food. Attentive but not disruptive service. Confusion with splitting the bill for a group. A good option for restaurant weeks.
Simply excellent. Food was terrific, atmosphere elegant. Dress up, make it special.
Very nice ambience. Food is excellent. Not a place for people watching as it is seldom very occupied and does not have many tables to begin with. I usually bring my clients here for lunch and 100 per cent of the time they take a business card with them from the restaurant
The food and service are always great. Very romantic and quiet.
Some of the best food on Houston
It's a very nice restaurant. Convenient location, easy parking.
Food is great and service is even better. I will definitely come back again and recommend to my friends as well.
we were celebrated our anniversary with dinner. we had celebrated an evening many years ago as well. we were not disappointed at all. the food was great and perfectly cooked to our taste. The waiter knew when to approach our table and when not to. The best!
We went in at 6pm and we were the only ones in the restaurant for the two hours we were there I think the ship has sailed and we missed the boat wish I had tried it 10 years ago!
Superb experience all around! We were warmly welcomed, exquisitely served and cared for and the food was delicious.
My wife and I visited based on a recommendation from a business associate. The food, service, ambiance & setting were fantastic. Mario & Pedro provided great service & really helped to make it a very romantic evening. I highly recommend this restaurant!
always enjoy La Colombe d"Or and this evening was one of the finest. Please go, spoil yourself and enjoy fine dining and service.
My girlfriend and I went for Valentine's day and it was fantastic. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was wonderful.
Fabulous experience my wife and I loved every minute of it.
I made a reservation at La Colombe d'Or for my husband's 50th birthday. Our two children came in from college that evening and the four of us went together. They knew who we were when we arrived and we were seated quickly. The best part of the night was our server, Ascenci'on. After we were done with our meal, he took us on a tour of the hotel's empty rooms, art work, kitchen and ballroom. It was a very memorable evening and we'd do it again!
The food was average for nice Houston dining, but the service was EXCELLENT. We were warmly greeted and seated promptly. Our waiter was by far one of the best we have had anywhere. He was professional and welcoming. He even cut our daughter's steak for her so we could stay seated. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you want to be pampered.
My wife and I are relocating to Houston for work ( Energy Industry ) and were recently in town looking for real estate ahead of our move. This trip fell over my birthday and we were surprised by my mother with an evening at La Colombe D'or as a remote birthday gift - and what a great experience.
Now reviews to me are only useful when I can relate to the person reviewing. I've been to some of the best restaurants/hotels in the world, and am always surprised to see reviews that seem so polar opposite to the feedback I would have for others so lets start with the fact that I am 38, my wife is 30 and we've travelled to, and eaten at at 6, 3-star Michelin restaurants around the world in the past few years, just for the dining experience. That should say enough for those trying to understand our experiences/expectations. This restaurant was on the main floor of what had to be the most unique set-up I've seen. The building must be a historic landmark because it's nestled between two new modern apartment complexes and it felt like we were walking into old Texas - but in a good way. We walked in to what felt like a hotel front desk ( we only found out after that it actually a hotel as well ) with a beautiful old bar to the right, and a dining room to the left. The front desk person, doubled as our waiter and bartender for the evening, which felt great, but I would expect that would be hard to maintain if it was very busy. The dining room was small but stunning, and would rival a great Robuchon room, but with a touch of old money Houston. The wine list was great, the champagne selection was extensive and the food was outstanding - even the Fois Gras, which I never thought I'd see prepared well in Houston. Overall, the night was great and I expect to be back as it felt perfect for bringing a client to a nice lunch, or dinner. Now I haven't yet seen what else Houston has to offer, but if you have high expectations for your dining experience, this place won't disappoint.
Lovely and quaint. Old and traditional. Food was very well prepared and service was also admirable.
Everything was great except service. Wait staff was nice, but very inattentive. At this level of dining it is expected that wait staff are more aware of when drinks need refilling, time to move to next course without being promoted or flagged down.
A fabulous Thanksgiving dining!
With only 10 tables available, the exquisite service and delectable meal amongst wonderful art is memorable for us year after year. Sorry, we've never had the Turkey on Thanksgiving, but the huge portion of Lamb chops was unforgettable. There enjoyed the Snapper and ALL shared the delightfully "light" bread pudding.
