La Collina Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Our visits to La Collina are always a pleasure. Whether meeting friends, or simply as a twosome, we are never disappointed. Our favorites are fish dishes, always fresh and tastily prepared. We are planning 2 additional visits this month. Our request for a favorite table is always honored.
We had a most delightful dinner at La Collina. The restaurant was festive without being over the top. Although very busy, the service remained professional. We can't complement Anthony (aka in south Philly as Antony, not Tony according to him) enough--engaging and funny he soon got into the rythm of our nonsense. As expected the food was excellent.
The layout of the restaurant was beautiful, the valet was so kind and waited patiently for me to put on my heels & helped me out of the car. The service was good, my water glass was always refreshed, but the food was terrible. When the bread came out, it was cold & there was nothing special about it. It was difficult to spread the butter, and on an already cold, snowy day - nothing about cold bread starts your experience off well. I added shrimp to my fettuchini alfredo and it was extremely fishy. The setting & service was great, the food was not - and when you're paying for the food specifically, bad food isn't a place I'd re-visit again.
Fabulous atmosphere and excellent service. My Minestrone soup came to the table piping hot just as I like it but the taste was only fair. My wife had Dover sole which she really enjoyed. I had the veal which was very tender and tasty. The tomato sauce on my side spaghetti was quite disappointing however. No flavor to speak of and since I judge an Italian restaurant by the quality of its red sauce I can't give La Collina 5 stars. I will most likely go back for another try.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal there this past Saturday evening. The only complaint I would have is the shrimp in my dish and my boyfriend’s was tough and over cooked. Other than that, the service was phenomenal. Even the Valet driver. Our car was ready and waiting for us as we left the restaurant. We will definitely be back again.
I don’t know how this restaurant has great reviews. We went in for a special occasion and there wasn’t a single person dining and had around 15 servers just looking at you waiting and sitting at the tables talking to each other. I had seen so many great things written about the food and dining experience I was disappointed, to say the least. The person I was with ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and when it came out the pasta was burnt. It was AWFUL. When the server came back to ask how the meal was and we told him it was burnt he made us feel like we weren’t being honest. A few minutes later, the manager proceeds to tell us he tried it and it was definitely burnt and made a whole scene with all the servers. UNCOMFORTABLE experience and we still had to pay for the burnt pasta. So unfortunate.
We dined it was wonderful. Our waiter (I'm so sorry I don't remember his name) was fabulous!!! We ordered salads which were delicious and most of us ordered fish and our meals were more than great!!!! WE also had their rum cake and it was the bestest we have ever had!!!! It's always a great meal and the staff is absolutely incredible. They also have complimentary valet parking. Thanks for a great evening!!!!
I was at La Collina to celebrate daughter’s and my own birthday. It was my fourth time at La Collina and my server Mario detracted from my experience. He seemed a lazy and less than enthused to do his job. He also was not very attentive to the needs of the table. It took him a very long time to return to the table with the check and he asked me if I wanted change.
I was also not happy that the bus boy cleared the table before we were finished eating.
However, the valet is the nicest and friendliest person you will ever meet. He should be working inside the restaurant.
The food was delicious though. I will probably return and request another server.
We enjoyed a lovely multi-generational birthday dinner. Service was attentive. Everyone in the party enjoyed their selections, starters, main course and deserts. I did not hear a single complaint. The wine from the house vineyard was delicious. The valet parking was a nice service.
Uncomfortable start to finish. The wine and food were overpriced. It's the first time I ever saw chicken parm served without pasta. The waiter seemed preoccupied. He suggested the most expensive dishes on the menu. Then we heard another waiter offer his table more specials than were offered to us. The restaurant wasn't even half full, and no one at the bar. I guess that should have been a clue. The only good thing is that the valet was friendly and on the ball.
Thoroughly enjoyed my Veal Royale and Cesar salad; my wife enjoyed her halibut w/leeks. Stuffed oyster app was ok. Nice atmosphere and view. Service was very attentive but we did feel a bit rushed; there was little time between courses. We would've enjoyed a slower pace. It's the kind of a place to relax and enjoy the ambience. We recommend and will return.
My husband and I came for our 32 wedding anniversary. We had not been there for 29 yrs. at that time it was for my birthday. Valet and greeter were very nice and friendly. I even told both that it was our anniversary. Our server was not friendly at all and we felt he was rushing us. Came back numerous times to see if we were ready to order although no words came out of his mouth, he just would stand there. When we asked questions about the menu he seemed annoyed. When our food came, neither he or the manager walking around ever came to ask how everything was although they walked past our table constantly. We ordered desserts but no coffee so they brought the check without us asking so what if we had wanted another cocktail,I guess when your there a total of 50 minutes start to finish your expected to be done. What was supposed to be a relaxing night out turned out to be just an unfriendly place with good food. I will not recommend to anyone else
I made this dinner reservation as a surprise for my boyfriend as we have both always wanted to try La Collina. The bar was intimate. Enjoyed the piano player/singer very much. Bartender was training, which was a little awkward and took away from the intimacy, but was still nice. As our server opened our bottle of wine she asked if we were ready to order...I hadn't even opened my menu or taken a sip of my wine. Wasn't sure if this was her trying to give top notch service or rush us in and out. Personally, I felt rushed. The setting was romantic and I appreciated the overall ambiance. I had the diver sole which was filleted tableside and was delicious. The dessert cart was also impressive looking, but the actual dessert wasn't anything THAT great. Overall, I would go back and recommend La Collina for the overall atmosphere. I would recommend the elderly gentleman as a server who we watched engage with his diners exceptionally well and even came over to us to explain the view as he caught us looking out the window.
My wife and I went to La Collina on the night we got engaged and we've been there many times since. The atmosphere is perfect. It has a very old school feel. It's what it's supposed to feel like eating in an Italian restaurant. The servers are outstanding. They are knowledgeable but not pretentious. It goes without saying that the food is outstanding. The location may not be convenient for some, but it's located right off 76 so it's very easy to get to. I highly recommend La Collina!
The host greeted us by name, table ready. Water and condiments at the table immediately. Waiter (John) explained specials. Service was extraordinary, fish filleted at the table! No rush services, each course was given ample time to complete. Outrageous dessert cart! Brought right to table and served. La Collina is a favorite when we visit Philadelphia. We travel 100 miles and the food, service, and value are well worth the trip! Amore La Collina!
Time to gut and renovate this very old and very tired restaurant. It hasn't changed since it opened its doors 30+ years ago… It's old, looks dirty and tired. Food was terrible. Tortellini en brodo tasted like water. Melon and prosciutto… The melon was not ripe and prosciutto was tough, stringy and chewy. Won't go back until they change this place.
