This restaurant provides a subtle accent to the elegant bistro décor. The lively bonhomie of the bar area warmly envelops guests as they enjoy a cocktail at the bar or dine leisurely while the chimes of clinking glasses and the Art Deco sconces in the dining room invoke the transporting ambiance of a bustling Bistro In the summer, enjoy an afternoon drink on the charming outdoor terrace while experiencing the spectacular urban sunsets and la joie de vivre.
The food was excellent and the staff were friendly. Prices were reasonable. One of the best onion soups I had in a while.
The host first asked how many, but then asked if we had reservations. If reservations were needed why entertain the idea of seating us? It felt disingenuous.
We asked to change tables to avoid feeling the draft from the door and he was visibly annoyed.
The appetizer and entree were good but the dessert was not good. We ordered an apple crumble but what came out was doughy.
The servers were nice and the prices were reasonable.
Damian is the best. Food was insane. Love this place!
Merci Anonymous ! Hope to see you sometimes soon ! Best, Damien
Brought my mother here for a Sunday night birthday dinner. The staff consisted of one young seemingly inexperienced waiter, the bartender, and a busser. No manager in sight throughout our entire meal. Despite being relatively empty, it took about 40 minutes for the waiter to take our order and an hour just for bread to arrive to the table. Our entrees arrived before apps were cleared from the table. And we weren't even provided steak knives for our steak. We made the waiter aware of these issues on two occasions. He offered to comp a dessert. But there did not appear to be a manager present in the restaurant to receive our feedback or adjust the bill appropriately. It was a very unpleasant experience.
Francesco, thank you for dining with us last night. I am truly sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience, please accept my sincere apologies. We were 3/4 full and I am sorry that Drew (one of my #1 waiter) took a bit longer to bring you bread, definitely not 40min. Your well burger took long as well because of the temperature. My Manager Will comped it since you mentioned it was too well, and offered a dessert. Again, steak knifes should have been given and I am very sorry. Best, Damien
Wonderful ambiance in this cozy neighborhood restaurant. A menu that includes Alsatian specialities like spaetzle and tartes flambées, and standards like a great burger and beautiful roast chicken as well. The fireplace adds to the coziness in winter, and the bar is congenial whether you’re in your own or with a friend. Great addition recently is a terrific jazz combo on Saturday evenings.
Merci Caitriona for the lovely review! We hope to see you again soon, Best regards, Damien
Great food and service was exexcellent
Mussels marinieres were terrible with strong bitter taste. French fries were overcooked. All the dishes came cold. A disappointment ...
Overpriced, mediocre food, filled with noisy kids.
Good afternoon BlueHillBees, thank you for your review. I am sorry you did not enjoy your experience with us at La Cigogne. I will definitely pay more attention to pricing & mediocre food. I will also strap every kids to their chairs from now on and prevent them from making any noise. After all, Carrol Garden is a wonderful community with lots of family. Again, I'm sorry if we couldn't perform well enough during your visit. Best regards, Damien
The best steak in the neighborhood, hands down. And with it's fireplace roaring, such a cozy spot for a winter evening meal. I don't love the giant TV at the bar, but you can sit out of range from it. Otherwise, really delicious food, friendly and attentive staff, nice and reasonable wine list. My idea of a great neighborhood restaurant.
Thank you so much for the lovely review Rosemary! I am very happy you had a wonderful experience. We hope to see you soon. Best regards, Damien
Le plat es très chère et on dit que c es un restant français et poutant
Bonjour, merci pour votre revue. A bientôt, Damien
Great food and ambiance on perfect block in Cobble Hill. A neighborhood gem that deserves a long life!!
Merci beaucoup for your lovely review, we hope to see you soon. Best, Damien
One of my favorite places to eat in NY. The food is delicious, the drinks great, it’s more than fairly priced, there’s live jazz, and a fireplace.
The food was disappointing as our tartes flambées came in cold, and the cheese was not even melted. We also were cold pretty much our entire dinner time, which further ruined our experience there.
Food was not good
My first time here and I was really impressed. Terrific service, lovely atmosphere. My quiche was very good. I was particularly impressed win the goat cheese salad. Most importantly for me, the place was relaxed and quiet, located on a pleasant street in Carroll Gardens. All in all, a really pleasurable dining experience.
Hamburgers were excellent, Quiche Lorraine was not so exciting. Creme brulee was very good. Cheesecake was a small round thing with chocolate squiggles.
We dined there for my birthday well the food was very good the service was terrible extremely slow and I had to ask for things multiple times more importantly it was extremely uncomfortable all the seating in the restaurant is very very hard. Heavy metal chairs with no cushions or pillows or bench seating just wood no comfortable seating available. I asked for my steak medium rare it was bloody and dripping all I could eat where the edges around it that were actually cooked at all they had to take it back and cook it again and it was still extremely rare.
A neighborhood gem. Food was very good and service was top notch. I had an Alsatian dish, the Spaetzle Poisonniere with generous helpings of scallops, shrimp, salmon, and mussels with just a hint of heat in a tomato-based sauce, which was excellent.
Always a good time here...a little taste of Paris!
Thank you for the lovely review Anna! Very happy you enjoyed your experience! See you soon, Best regards, Damien
Very friendly staff. Flatbreads and noodles are out of this world. Mac & cheese and pork entree and steak were to die for. I’m having trouble deciding what was better, the cocktails or the food?! Not used to a dark liquor cocktail ? Try the morning high. Light and sweet but hits you right where you want it to.
Terrific review Vincent:) Merci for sharing your experience and also thank you for visiting us! I ll make sure to prepare enough ginger syrup for the Morning High :) Best regards, Damien
Brought my parents here for brunch over the weekend and had a fantastic experience. Friendly service, great cocktails, delicious food, comfortable interior, and not too crowded. It's a bit off the beaten path but worth the trip. Looking forward to coming back for dinner.
Thank you Brian for the lovely review. It really warms our hearts to hear that our customers receive a fantastic experience here at la Cigogne! We hope to see you soon, Best regards, Damien
Went here for a first date. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Sitting out on the patio was very comfortable. The food was good, although the tarte flambee was not quite the way I expected it to be, it was still tasty! The bathroom was clean and neat.
All in all, I’d come back for another meal.
Bonjour Olivier, thank you for sharing your experience with us. I am happy to hear that almost everything was great, even though I believe our cook might have been a light shy with the creme fraiche, which I already have addressed the issue. I am sorry for the inconvenience and really hope to see you sometimes soon. Best regards, Damien Ps : dB Bistro is a great place :)
Overpriced, food wasn't good (steak overcooked and tough, salmon overcooked), and service was terrible.
Good morning Allan, I wanted to thank you for sharing your experience and also apologize for the poor experience you received. I really hope you will give us an other chance sometimes. best regard, Damien
The service was wonderful, the vibe is really low key, and the best part, my guest and I were able to sit outside so my pup could join. The waiter was extremely accommodating and brought her water to stay hydrated. The meal was lovely, we ordered a few appetizers and shared; the escargot, brussel sprouts, and walnut salad, were amazing, not to mention the apple crumble and great coffee for dessert. I can't wait to go back again.
Merci for the lovely review Jade! Hope to see you guys and the Pup soon! Best regards, Damien
Delightful neighborhood restaurant that is very reasonable and accommodating. Been there several times and always enjoyed.
Merci for the lovely review Nightmayer :) We hope to see you soon! Best regards, Damien
Very Romantic. Service was amazing. Food was great. Money well spent.
Love this place!!!!
Merci Marlol! We love you too! Best, Damien
Lovely brunch on Easter Sunday, the service here is always accommodating and friendly, food is great, mussels are a fav!
Merci for the lovely review SKJ4! We hope to see you soon , Best regards, Damien
Easy going. Consistent food. Nice staff
This restaurant used to be a great place in the neighborhood.. to wait 40 plus minutes for your food is INSANE.. and the excuse we received was.. oh.. we know.. if you know.. FIX it.. I live in the neighborhood and will never come back..
We really wanted to love this place -the ambiance is nice, but way to loud. Very hard to have a conversation. I have had better Tartes d'Alsace at a little place on the upper East Side, and our server, while sweet, kind of forgot about us a lot.
Also... is serving pinot noir cold a thing? I've never had a chilled pinot noir and don't care to again. Mixed drinks were good. All in all it was just ok.
Waited nearly 40 minutes for our Steak Frites to arrive and when it did it was mediocre at best and already cooling to room temp.
Picked this place for my boyfriend to meet the parents for the first time. The service was pretty great, though at times confusing. We had two people who seemed to be waiting our table, checking in at different points so I wasn’t sure if they knew who was really our waiter. And though that sounds great, it was very confusing when we asked a question about something on the menu and then they’d go check, or tell us something different than what we were previously told. Never mind about that, the food is really good. Mom and dad were happy with how their steaks were cooked, boyfriend loved the red snapper dish (me too!) and I enjoyed the mussels. The Brussels sprouts are perfect, tuna tartare is pretty good, but the best part was the Creme Brûlée. Drinks are just okay, I’d stick with a wine. For everything, we paid a pretty penny ($$$), but for New York it was not that bad. 9/10 would recommend.
We were greeted by a bus boy immediately upon entering, which is always welcoming. He promptly showed us to our table and offered us water. The waitress was right behind him, offering us the specials menu and explaining some of the "french" items that we didn't know what they were. Service was outstanding. Quick, friendly but not pushy. They let us sit and sip our wine for over an hour after we finished our meal, which NEVER happens in NYC. I would and will definitely return and recommend to friends and family.
Was curious to try this Alsatian based menu. The place is pleasant with a fireplacer and with very few customers on a Monday night, the noise level was low. Their menu is based on Spatzl (noodle dishes) and a type of flatbread. We tried one of each and found the food decent. with fresh ingrediants However, with very few customers the service was still poor. After specifically asking for no meat on my order and the waiter repeating my request, it arrived covered in bacon. Then I had to wait quite a while for a vegetarian version.
La Cigogne exceeded all of my expectations. A local restaurant that feels like a local restaurant, yet yields a Michelin quality experience. The Saturday night atmosphere was just loud enough to feel alive, yet not noisy. The quarters are cozy, but not claustrophobic. Each detail of the property is carefully designed and maintained and no doubt reflects the owners' intent to a "t". The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The fireplace is a very nice touch.
My wife had the "Spring's First Smile" cocktail and couldn't stop raving. The food was beautifully prepared and wonderfully effective. The foie gras torchon was fantastic, as were the mussels. The tuna tartare and salmon were amazing. The apple crumble topped off our meal nicely with some espresso.
This is a great, local date night destination. Reasonably priced and yet out-performing. I look forward to returning soon.
I’ve been here before and loved it. This was my second time dining and I was too pleased with the service. The server had to be asked twice to bring us water, her description of my meal was incorrect ( she stated it was lamb served with mixed veggies. I received lamb with cheese and raisins...) the table next to me was incredibly rude. I know this has nothing to do with the service but just reviewing my date here. One of the gentleman kept speaking about using the N word and how it should be allowed. They were both Caucasian, I am mixed race and was extremely uncomfortable. Overall I was not happy with this experience.
Had to wait twenty minutes for reserved table, food took a long time in coming and was inconsistent. Some good, some not so. That said, it was a Saturday and they comped a round of wine and handled it well.
Here for dinner on Valentines Day. We selected modestly from the menu and expect to come back again to try the spirit of the Alsatian cuisine. The servers were fine. In general we feel positively about the restaurant.
Took my family here. Everyone enjoyed it!
