Simply one of the best Italian restaurants in the US.
I will always recommend La Ciccia to ANYONE. We are fairly regular customers, going 3-4 times a year for the last 10 years. Lorella, the co-owner and Hostess always treats her customers as they were family. We are always remembered each time we visit. This includes our favorite table and favorite wine. They always remember our favorite wine. If they don't have it, they will recommend a wine very similar to our preferred. In this visit, the wine recommended EXCEEDED the one we had always preferred - so this is now our favorite.
As usual the food and service were superb. A new special appetizer of gnocchi was offered which was absolutely stunning n its flavor and texture. Massimo, the head chef and co-owner, is absolutely spectacular, especially with what he does with lamb.
Cannot recommend La Ciccia highly enough.
Great environment and great food and experience.
Max and Lorella are the perfect hosts!!
Returned with friends from Wisconsin, and they were most impressed! This in my neighborhood, and I return here and every time, it's just perfect.
Cozy & intimate. Waiter was so helpful & charming. Sea Urchin pasta & octopus stew were so delish! Pretty generous portions for entrees - we had to take some home.
Never ceases to amaze. Had an amazing meal here. Can't wait to go back.
Best place I’ve eaten in a long time. The service was incredible. The people were the nicest. It was an all around cozy and delicious experience. For the price we got a ton of food. If you miss out on this shame on you.
Superb from top to bottom. Fabulous food and just can’t find another octopus , pasta or prawn dish this well prepared in the new world
Service was attentive considerate and informative.
The owners are always there and always welcoming
We all had a great time
Great food and great wine.
I can make a case that this is the best restaurant in San Francisco. Yes, I've been to many of the 2 star places and even one 3 star but good food is good food and La Ciccia is probably the place I would choose to go if I was in San Francisco for just one night (especially a cold one, of which, let's be honest, there are many).
Everything here was amazing! I definitely recommend trying the pastas and the lamb!
Amazing food as always and lovely hospitality from all the staff and the owners. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wine list among a group of wine people.
Lorella the chefs wife is an attentive and gracious woman who only added to the wonderful dining experience. The food is frankly amazing.
The sea bass and squid ink were good. The portions are on the small size for the price. My fish was like 2 oz for $39. The restaurant is small but cozy.
Superb again. We love la Ciccia.
Did not like the food or ambience. The waiter was nice
If anything, La Ciccia is getting better! All the food we order was delicious as usual. The service was wonderful. It is our favorite restaurant in San Francisco.
Wonderful neighborhood Sardinian restaurant with world class food. Even if you are not a regular the family that owns it make you feel welcome.
A truly spectacular meal & evening! We literally felt transported to Italia - the entire experience was so authentic and extraordinary (as only true Italians seem able to accomplish). We were celebrating a 60th birthday - a very special occasion - and could not have chosen a better spot. Two thumbs as far upwards as the can go. Grazie mille!
Authentic and true to Sardinia traditional restaurant! Really enjoyed
Just as described. small, out of downtown and wonderful.
Outstanding meal of the year for us. The Spaghetti with Bottarga is our staple and we had 3 outstanding appetizers.
The ingeniously creative dessert was an orange panna cotta with BLACK SQUID INK. Who does that? It was really good.
La Ciccia is our favorite restaurant.
This restaurant continues to shine as the best in San Francisco. Best food. Best service. Best people. The warmth of the staff and the pride in serving great food is unsurpassed.
What a jewel. All Italian foods are not alike!
Great birthday dinner! We came from Philadelphia for the weekend and so glad we choose this restaurant!
Neighborhood treasure! Succulent complex sauces on fresh pasta. The octopus appetizer is a must-eat delight.
Excellent food, service and ambiance. I am a regular patron.
We love this restaurant. This was a special birthday dinner. We had grilled calamari, squid ink pasta (fregola), and branzino. Everything was extremely well prepared. Service was attentive but not intrusive. And the owner is so warm and friendly, you feel like you’re a guest in her home.
Wonderful food , not just the usual Italian menu, well prepared and delicious. A wonderful wine list with Italian favorites and wines we were unfamiliar with, can't wait to try some of them.
Love this place, I've gone twice in 2 weeks! .
The octopus soup and the prawns at La Ciccia are fantastic dishes. The wine list is great if you are looking for a bottle to share, and decent if you only want a glass. The service and staff are also pleasant. Unfortunately most of the food (calamari, squid ink pasta, pasta with roe, lamb) just doesn't hit the mark. The vegetables that accompany the dishes are also--how shall we say it--bad bad not good. A few gems mixed in with a lot of duds, but a nice spot nonetheless. 3/5
All of the food was excellent, especially the pasta dishes.
The best Italian place in town. The food is world class and the service is perfect. It’s nice and warm in there.
This place is vastly OVERRATED! After dining here twice, the apps, salads and pasta dishes have been “meh”. Most recently, my burrata with arugula was run-of-the-mill. My spaghetti had some mushrooms - it tasted so bland like something I could buy form a national grocery store chain.
Additionally, they can’t find the balance for my gift certificate, so there goes $60 down the drain with the hostile, aggressive attitude of the Manager thrown in.
Don’t waste your time or money here.
The food and service were incredible - La Ciccia was the best Italian food experience we've had in SF so far. The Bottariga and Calamari were to die for.
Outstanding, authentic Italian food and hospitality.
Owner was excellent, waiter was terrible. Didn’t give us specials and recited the menu when we asked for recommendations. We were fortunate to be dining with someone who had eaten there before and made solid recommendations. Food was outstanding and owner was very nice and welcoming. Great restaurant!
The food and service were outstanding. The restaurant has an authentic homey feel perfect for a date or dinner with family and friends. The service was fantastic and attentive.
We had a terrific dining experience for my husband's birthday. First, all the staff are so warm and welcoming, and they are so knowledgeable about the food and the wine. We were made to feel as if we were honored guests. There was a special supplemental menu featuring foods of Emilio-Romagna so our meal included one of those items plus some amazing Sardinian foods. Our Sardinian choices included flavorful calamari (braised in an oil and possibly vinegar sauce with some wilted greens - delightful!) as a starter, and entrees of grilled head on shrimp (large, tender and seasoned perfectly) with a vegetable side plus brandino (2 large fillets over a bed of chopped cooked tomato, onion and peppers). The food was so tasty and it felt as if we were in a small trattoria in Italy. We also shared a pasta from Emilio-Romagna that was incredibly good - spinach tagliatelle in a sauce that included mortadella and grated tuna heart - the sauce was a red-orange, it had a bit of a kick and it combined the saltiness of the mortadella with the brininess of the tuna. Dessert included gelato, a nice sweet ending to our meal. For our wine, our server guided us and we selected a white wine with a lot of depth of flavor - a Sardinian version of Sauvignon Blanc but with less citrus. The wine complemented all our dishes. Portions are generous and we left with enough for another meal. Although the restaurant is small, it feels cozy and we really didn't hear conversations from the diners nearby. We've been here a few times and each time we have a wonderful meal and wonder why we don't dine there more regularly. This is a spot worth seeking out because of the quality of the food and service.
