Dinner was superb.
Sorry to see a great place have to close due to the Waldorf Astoria renovation. Let's hope it returns in a few years.
This restaurant was a terrible disappointment. My husband and I thought it would be a treat to celebrate a special occasion. Instead it was AWFUL. The noise level was very high, the portions of food very small, the expense high for no value and the ambience poor - people dressed in torn tee shirts, waitresses not particularly devoted to serving you.Stay far away from this overpriced restaurant. The entire experience was a
disgrace. Don't waste your money . Stay AWAY
Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Each course was delicious and beautifully presented.
Inventive dishes, well prepared and served attentively.
Great Chinese food, real Peking duck here!
This place is way overpriced given the quality of its food and service. Disappointed.
i had very high expectations having read reviews and looking at the website but i was disappointed in overall experience. the restaurant design is elegant and refined but the service was not up to standard for a fine dining establishment. the food was pretty to look at but serving temperature and actual taste was a disappointment. i cannot say that i would recommend La Chine.
A close to authentic Chinese feast. Yum, the bbq duck is moist and flavorful, ma po tofu is delish, ribs, shrimp, dumplings all great.
Upscale Chinese with good service. Will go back next month when I'm back in NYC.
Found hair in our food. The waiter forgot our food. Under staffed for a restaurant at this caliber.
Service was excellent. Food was great - the eight hour soup was amazing! We dined for Restaurant Week and got upsold to also order the duck, which was excellent. We were not able to finish our meal and looked forward to having our leftovers today - only to find that we were given someone else's leftovers!!! Such a shame not to be able to enjoy the rest of the duck, the filet steak and the Szechuan chicken! Very disappointing for such an upscale establishment
The waiter did not give out restaurant to anyone. We have to ask to get it. The table next to us experienced the same. Do not appreciate that.
This restaurant is closing down in 2 weeks. The service was bad and so was the food quality. There was a group seated with a dog next to our table. The dog didn't stop barking. The only thing the restaurant did was ask us if we wanted to be moved to another table. Wouldn't recommend it at all.
good food....pretentious,often annoying waiter....condescending in attitude....
We went for the restaurant week menu (with extra roast chicken) and definitely worth it! Excellent food, environment and service! Really enjoy tonight. Strong recommendation and I want to visit la chine again!
Love the authentic good and service in a very nice atmosphere
Very nice place. But it's closing soon.
The food was not spicy, as the descriptions indicated, but everything was very good.
Elegant surroundings and wonderfully inventive execution of both traditional Chinese dishes and vegetables, fish and meats not often found on the Chinese menu. Great wine pairings and delightful cocktails.
Favorite restaurant in New York. Food and service are impeccable.
I found the ambiance of this restaurant was excellent. It is perfect for a group of friends who want to enjoy a nice meal and have a good time(not a loud bar scene). The music genre, the service pace and the crowd of the guests are exactly what i expected for a Chinese New Year's eve dinner. It is between casual and fine dining, so prepare yourself for a relaxing, fun and intimate dining experience.
Food there is yummy. It is Chinese food but obviously affected by French cuisine. It has Chinese elements with French delicacy. It is worth the value if you combine the food and the ambience . I think the cocktail is a bit overly priced.
would love to go back more often not just for special occasion if the price for the drinks can be more reasonable.
Good food but the table service is terrible.
Gorgeous restaurant, great service, very good food.
Excellent Midtown Asian Option
Had not been to La Chine before, and went for restaurant week in the evening. Very nice decor and good vibe, particularly given the locale. Food was well executed, however a little less than ambitious, and each course was better than the last. Fluke sashimi was especially good, though small in portion, as were the beef and chicken mains. Service was exceptional. Would recommend, particularly for someone not too adventurous or experienced as to Asian cuisine.
Very creative Asian food served tastefully on equally creative plates. Good service and quiet!
It is too bD this place will have to close soon, along with the ret of the Waldorf. Outstanding food and service, as good as it gets. We shared all the dishes on the NY Restaurant Week menu, and they were sensational. Will continue for 2 more weeks. Go while you still can!
It's the finest Chinese dining I've had in NYC. The food is superb, the setting is elegant chic and Chinese-inspired. I like that it's not too noisy and the service is 5 stars. It is on the pricier side.
I indicated in my reservation that I was celebrating a special birthday. On my way out I asked if they ever saw my comments. They looked embarrased but did not say much except they were sorry. Didnt like that- felt sloppy. At a restaurant like La Chine once you say something you should not need to remind the wait staff or hostess. Have dined here before- waiter was not knowledgeable or helpful with the menu. Too bad because the food is really delicious.
the food and service were excellent. sadly the place will be closing next month.
The ambiance was perfect for our party of 7. They had us in one of the 'alcoves' which are beautiful and spacious. Food was pretty good, but not as good as Shun Lee or Mr. K's. We tried about 10 different dishes: spare rib appetizer and sea bass entree were the standounts. Service was attentive although not warm. Server advised us poorly on their cocktail menu, but accommodated our kids well.
Atmosphere nice, food good quality but quite expensive. Had theater tickets and ran rather late and just made it in time, so allow plenty of time for dining here.
In spite of wonderful food, it took 15 minutes before a waiter arrived at our table, although the room was quite empty. He was busy chatting with another table. Infuriating.
It was an average dining experience. I wasn't blown away by the food as I was hoping to be, although I will say the duck was outstanding. Service was also less than I would expect for the price point of the restaurant and for a Waldorf owned establishment.
A very, very good, elegant restaurant with innovative Chinese food. Such a shame that it's closing at the end of February. Dine there can you can.
In the Saturday snow storm, my boyfriend and I ventured out for an amazing dining experience. Oysters - so delicious. Ribs - delicious. The duck amazing. Service impeccable. So sad this place will be closing during the Waldorf's renovations. A memorable evening.
Loved the "Ginseng" cocktail and the care with which it was made. We were going to have wine with dinner, but the spicy ginger flavor in the cocktail complemented the meal so well, that I just add more cocktails instead. The bartender was professional and friendly. The bar seating was comfortable. Our request for dinner seating within the lovely framed booths was honored (loved the velvet pillow). Our server, Jean-Jacques, was courteous, attentive, thorough, helpful and friendly. We enjoyed everything and especially loved the wanchai beef (entree) and long beans (side dish). We are very particular when it comes to hot food (i.e. it should be served very hot, not just sort of hot) - and this restaurant served every dish PIPING hot and cooked to perfection. If you are willing to avert your eyes when it comes to the prices and focus instead on the beauty and flavor of the food and the relaxing ambiance, I think you will love the meal and the experience. We enjoyed the close proximity to Grand Central Station for a quick trip home. We hope one day to try the Afternoon Tea.
The service is not like a high end restaurant. We wait for the beef over 30 minutes!! But they gave us a free dish as a sorry thing. The dessert pear is too sweet! The overall food quality and food price is good and reasonable.
La Chine restaurant is by far the BEST Chinese restaurant to go to. Amazing staff, great ambiance and the food is very authentic. I would recommend this restaurant to whom would like to have a very nice dinner and appreciate Chinese gourmet food.
Preis - Leistung Verhältnis stimmt überhaupt nicht!!!
It does worth every penny, and will be a lot of pennies. The smoked mackerel is just outstanding. Perfect fusion between French and Chinese cuisines.
