We love food in this restaurant, especially, soufflé; out of this world!!!
The food was excellent and our waiter was absolutely wonderful. We also loved the décor and menu selections. We will definitely go again when we are in town!
Teriffic. Great food and service.
Great service friendly staff, good food at a reasonable price. Nice atmosphere too
La Chaumiere provides a reliably excellent, traditional French dining experience. It has a very comfortable atmosphere and is usually packed with Georgetown regulars. The service is professional, the food is well prepared and presented, and the wine list is well chosen and good value. If traffic and parking were not so difficult, we would be regulars, too!
Great wine list. Superb night!
Second time there. I think it is my new favorite restaurant in DC. Had the mussels again and was disappointed that they weren't as big as last time - I think the smaller mussels ended up being overcooked. The Duck L'Orange was perfect. Reasonable prices for delicious wine.
La Chaumiere never disappoints on anything! Food & service are always wonderful. Every new person I bring there loves it!
A wonderful quaint French restaurant in the heart of Georgetown! The soft shell crab appetizer was outstanding and the quenelle was as good as those in Lyon! Service was impeccable! What a find!
A wonderful night. Our waiter was excellent. We started with the Emmenthal Cheese Soufflé worth the wait and so delicious. I had the Medaillons de Venaison and my date had the Pork Chop dish, both prepared perfectly. For dessert we tried the Chocolate Soufflé, devine! I can't wait to go back!
Meal and ambiance were very authentic. Service was wonderful. Never felt rushed and food was delicious.
Best soft shells in town!
Have eaten there while a medical resident at George Washington and for the last 35 years. I could eat there every night. A GEM of a French bistro. Food and servise are unbeatable. I live in Baltimore and come with friends every time we come to DC for a show. The sweetbreads and Dover sole are the best I have ever had. Love your bistro!
Great food, service and ambiance!
Calf's brain not up tp par
Busy week...short of staff
3 hour meal
My husband and I were visiting DC to see the cherry blossoms and decided to treat ourselves to French cuisine. I had dined at La Chaumiere several years ago and loved the atmosphere, so we booked a table. Wow. It was everything I remembered -- charming elegance, great service, and excellent food and wine. We enjoyed our experience so much that we just recommended La Chaumiere to our neighbors!
Only complaint is tables are all very close together!
This is our favorite restaurant in all of DC. We are from out of town, but we make it a point to come here every time we are in town. Dinner is absolutely perfect every time. Great atmosphere, great service, and great food. I'd give it six stars out of five.
My second visit and it was just delicious, delightful and wonderful! The quenelles are very special, as is the entire menu. Have to return to try everything else!
Very nice!
As soon as I walked up to the host's station, La Chaumiere's French country vibe helped me shed my work-day mood and prepared me for the relaxed, cozy and almost like being in Southern France dining experience that Chaumiere imparts. A waiter appeared at the table almost as soon as the four of us were seated. His welcome was warm and friendly yet very professional, He knew his menu and made excellent suggestions for appetizers that complemented our entrees. I started with fresh oysters served with a tomato based cocktail sauce. The hint of horseradish and garlic balanced perfectly against the light, freshness of the oysters. I completed my seafood themed meal with La Chaumiere's exquisitely prepared sea scallops. The chef seared their outsides golden brown and kept their meat moist and full of flavor. I started looking forward to my next meal at La Chaumiere before I finished my exquisite chocolate moose.
My favorite place in DC
La Chaumiere was wonderful! My step-daughter and I were enjoying 5 days together in DC and this was the perfect place to enjoy our last evening in the city. We had early reservations because of a play that night so the restaurant might have been a touch quieter than it would have bee at 8:00.
The ambiance reminded us of Paris except, fortunately, there was more space between tables! The food was excellent and reasonably priced by DC standards and the service was delightful. We both made a note in our phones that this restaurant was a winner and we will go back the next time we are in DC.
The food here is fantastic. The seating is cozy. If you’re going to be seated at a table with your back to the wall, you might want to visit the restroom before getting settled. Service was generally very good, but we did wait a bit for our check. Standouts from this visit were the steak au poivre and the baked oyster special dish.
Excellent food and service
I had lunch here with an old friend. Food and service were excellent, and the restaurant was quiet enough to allow easy conversation. Menu and specials offer several traditional French specialties.
Best escargot ever! And best desserts! Totally enjoyed.
Second time I've been there. Experience is great! Great wine selection. Terrific food and service. Look forward to going again when back in DC.
Great service and good food. Very accommodating for small children on a Saturday night by using upstairs seating area.
The food was very good and the ambiance was very nice, perfect for a quiet birthday celebratory dinner.
Exceeded expectations in every way. A great spot for a date night.
Wonderful everything. Classic French cuisine. Delicious. Impecable service. Charming atmosphere. Imagine yourself in France.
We had an enjoyable evening--great ambiance--but it is a loud place when crowded. We were there on a Thursday night and it was packed. We had a cheese plate as an appetizer--it was just OK. The serving could have been bit a bit more generous... Each of us really liked our entrees. Two of our party had the cassoulet (sp?) and I had the beef brisket. However, we shared a chocolate souflee for dessert and were all very disappointed. The worst we had ever had in a restaurant... And the service was somewhat slow due to the crowd I guess...
Great, as always. Our favorite restaurant in DC!
Always a pleasure as the food is very good and the service excellent- quick and good!
Martin was very super nice
The service outstanding
The food very well prepared
Calf liver cooked to perfection
Halibut superb
And my rack of lamb was succulent
Will return
Chef Patrick you are one of the best French chef in DC
Good job

This was our 2nd visit and La Chaumiere does not disappoint! We were celebrating our daughter's quarter century birthday (!) and everything was perfect! The food was splendid and sitting by the fire so very special! Merci infiniment Mariel! A la prochaine fois!
We were traveling to Georgetown and La Chaumiere was recommended by a friend of mine. The food was excellent - Trout Almadine was outstanding as was the Duck. A friend who had the Calves Liver said it was the best she had had. Wait staff is very professional - takes good care of you. The only non positive thing is the tables are extremely close but we had nice tables mates around us so it was not an issue. It has a very European flair. Would high rec if you wanted excellent French food!!
A Georgetown standby for decades, very cozy. Classic French cuisine, a little heavy in the old style, but well-executed. Wine list has a good selection, but no real bargains. The two of us had a very pleasant evening. Will go back.
Classic French food. Especially enjoyed the rack of veal. The tables are very close so difficult to talk quietly, but locals love the atmosphere in Georgetown. They could use an update on the old photos on the wall from 30 years ago.
