I always like to come here when in town. The Dover sole however was just okay and had a lot of bones. $600 dinner tab made the experience feel overpriced.

I hate to admit this is only my 2nd time to visit La Chaumiere. We came 3 years ago to celebrate our anniversary. This place is absolutely amazing!! The service is always stellar and the food is out of this world. We had a nice cozy table by the fireplace, which was very romantic. Our daughter was in town so we decided to try ALL of her choices. We started with some fabulous foie gras and escargot. The BEST foie gras we've ever had. This alone would be worth coming in and having with a nice bottle of wine. The venison, was scrumptious, the lamb PERFECT, and the veal OUTSTANDING! We all sampled each others' dishes and were thrilled. At the end of our dinner, we shared the Grand Marnier Souffle which was truly dreamy. I should be reprimanded for waiting so long in between visits. This place IS A GEM.

Overall a good dining experience. The onion soup was somewhat bland. The waiter should let the customer know the prices of the specials. One entree was $40. Nice place.

Amazing as always. Even after 42 years in business they are still one of the best restaurants in town.

Excellent restaurant, with classic French cuisine. Wine list a little high but wines are good.

I picked La Chaumiere for a romantic dinner, was really looking for great food and an old-Europe rustic feel. Found it at La Chaumiere, and along with a great waiter, we truly enjoyed our meal and experience. The restaurant was almost at capacity the entire Friday evening, but we never felt crowded or rushed, and always had attention of the staff without that feeling of hovering. It is not inexpensive, but we certainly got what we paid for.
Fully recommend La Chaumiere for romantic date night, or small groups of friends out for an elegant meal.

The food was underwhelming for the price. The mussels were under-done. The salmon was good but peppery which was not described in the menu as such.

A great classic French restaurant with outstanding food, wine list, and service. I go there every time I am in DC. The quality of food and wine, the ambience, and the pleasant service have not changed in 10 years (and that is a good thing!).

Highly comfortable evening meal -- excellent service (including description of specials) amid large number of diners, like us, enjoying the meal.

Came in from out of town and took my girlfriend on a date here. The maître d’ was, well, French. So no expectation of a warm reception, but not rude, either. We arrived during the height of the rush. The table was cozy and in an excellent location, though we had to wait a bit after our reservation time to be seated. The wait was worth it. Table setup was impeccable. Our waiter arrived promptly, the House Côte du Rhône was affordable but nice, and the food was superb. Despite the rush, wait staff was attentive, helpful, and extremely courteous. Overall, an enjoyable, warm dining experience, that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a diverse French menu.

I've been coming to Washington DC several times a year for nearly 20 years. I would rate this as one of the top 5 restaurants in the region. The menu is great, the food is perfectly prepared and is served without long waits and the servers are knowledgeable and willing to really discuss the food with you. The wine list is (like all DC restaurants) is overpriced, but there are a few good reasonably priced selections. I am so glad to have found La Chaumiere and I intend to go back again and again. The baked mussels, the cornish hen and the desert souffle are outrageous!

Very good food and wonderful fireplace--what we needed! The only thing was that our companions were charged for champagne, when they had requested prosecco. The (very nice) waiter may have told them that there was no prosecco, but they didn't understand this. They probably would have made another drink selection, if they had known.

We had a delightful dinner at La Chaumiere. The fireplace is so inviting; you feel like you are in a chalet in the Alps! The food was outstanding, especially the quenelle, which I haven't had since I was a little girl! Absolutely have to have the apple tart: Incroyable!
Will be returning for sure!

Le Chaumiere has been on the Washington scene for more than 40 years and is still a go-to restaurant! The food is typical French - both modern and old fashioned and the ambiance comfortable and cozy. My husband had the most delicious pike quenelle in lobster sauce and I had gravlax and also calf brains. Absolutely delicious! We have been many times and will definitely return!

Outstanding restaurant in all areas--food, service and atmosphere. Price was reasonable and the portions were typical of a French restaurant. We've already made reservations to return. Souffles were very good too. Parking at the Four Seasons Hotel directly across the street from the restaurant. Let the valet know that you are going to the restaurant, and he will give you a special ticket for the restaurant to validate. Parking is normally $20.00, but you pay the restaurant $15.00 (added to your dinner bill), and the restaurant validates your parking ticket.
