La Chaumiere desperately needs an update in decor. I was really disappointed with our table right behind the host desk. We went during restaurant week. The server was clearly rushing us so as to maximize seating The food was meh. We won't be back.
Delicious and great ambiance, though quite loud at dinner time with all tables full (and very close together). Planning to go back at a slower time to savor a long meal.
Great experience! Loved the food. Wish there were more affordable wine options...but everything else was wonderful. Would definitely recommend.
Wonderful, as always. This restaurant has been in existence for years and it's always packed. That tells you everything.
A great place for lunch or dinner. Excellent ambiance. Will return again and again.
This is my favorite French restaurant, their food is magnificent and the soufflé is to die for... I highly recomend this restaurant.
We waited over an hour after being seated for our entree - 45 minutes for an appetizer.
My husband and I enjoyed our dinner immensely! Everything was wonderful! From the ambiance and service to the food and wine, it was all fabulous!
Nice as always. Quiet so one can have a conversation. PROFESSIONAL waiters who have worked there for years and know what they are doing.
Feels like service in s bistro in France.
Nice atmosphere with fireplace.
Mousse au chocolat was a bit hard, maybe too cold. It’s been better in other occassions
The only place I know where you can get brains, soufflé's
and liver regularly.
Philipi was a funny, interesting and very capable waiter.
The food was delicious and service was outstanding
It is a wee bit cramped in the restaurant
This is one of my favorite places to eat in DC and a real gem in the Georgetown food scene. Food and wine were very good; server was pretty good but not our favorite. There are better servers on staff than him. My fiancée and I really enjoy this place so we will back.
We felt that we were overcharged on some of our items but it was not worth the hassle of going back to them for a few dollars. Otherwise a lovely experience.
What a wonderful experience!
It was my wife’s 53 Birthday and she picked this restaurant. Rene our sever was great . We were not rushed and the food was what great food is all it should be!
We will be back! And great gem in a fast pace world
The value for the meal is not there. Way too expensive to get an ordinary meal.
Excellent service and food. Rene is an awesome food server. Be sure to reserve for the bottom floor, regardless of the server.
Excellent menu with many choices for all courses. My colleague fully enjoyed the fish stew and I was very impressed with the salmon in puff pastry. The onion soup was good but I think that I make a better onion soup myself.
Nice selection of wines by the glass.
Service was attentive but not overly engaging.
Always a great meal and beautiful atmosphere - Thanks for the table next to the fireplace!
Always dependable. beautiful selection of French foods.
Awesome place, food and service! Always happy to eat there. Can't wait for next time
Always very good menu, food, and service and atmosphere.
I must admit that I liked the former recipe for quenelle de brochet and its sauce a bit better than the present one
We loved the NYE experience. Wait staff patient and attentive and genuinely positive. Special menu attractive. Enjoyed not being rushed out after midnight.
Food was great, but staff and servers could have been friendlier.
Great service and great food!!
made a reservation for new years eve based on a recommendation of a loved one. While simple from the outside what I found inside was a charming old world feel that made you immediately want to relax. The management and wait staff were very attentive during this visit, albeit they were clearly busy. The escargot was average but at least they did not spare the pesto in the butter as do some other places. Oysters were also quite tasty I am a fan of steak au poivre and they did a nice job overall with great flavors while our friends had two of the seafood entrees which they were quite excited over. I would definitely go back as you can clearly tell from the crowd that there is an established 'older' clientele that go there and the diversity of age leaned more to the senior rather than the junior generations. regardless, if you are up for romantic, relaxed and respectable, this is your choice.
We have been coming here for over 25 yrs, always on our anniversary, and what we value most is that it has NEVER disappointed us: excellent Country French traditional food, excellent service and a comfortable, quiet ambiance. Our favorite restaurant!
Our host/server, René was amazing. He was kind and patient and very engaging. The food was spectacular.
Consistently very special service ambiance and excellent food. Always have a cheese and Grand Mariner souffle. Although if you are a chocoholic DO NOT MISS the chocolate souffle. last time I tasted as good a chocolate was in a little restaurant in Old town Geneva, just off the Lake. Thank goodness I have a shorter drive to get such excellence right there in my lil ole hometown. Thanks guys for making the celebration lovely. People, listen to me, GO DINE at La C. Happy and successful New Year 2019
We have spent a number of wedding anniversaries here over the years and are always happy we did. This is a real old school French restaurant, and we can attest to that from many, many visits to France. Service is professional and respectful, food is very good, and prices are fair for what you get. Plus it's always a treat to be part of the scene in Georgetown!
La Chaumiere has always been near flawless every time I've eaten there. Cozy, warm , comfortable environment with sensational French cuisine. I've been lucky enough to be there for New Years Eve and Christmas Eve ( like this year ) and it's the perfect spot to bring back that old true spirit of holidays past. I felt much more Christmas-y leaving then I did going in . Everyone else did as well.
Thry have regular specials week nights all year round ( cassoulet on Thursdays!) so the place is a win-win anytime time of year .
The last of the Grand Dames serving high quality French cuisine! I've been going for years - love this place!
Excellent as always!
La Chaumiere was my guest’s choice for a dinner to celebrate her birthday. She had been there before — I had not. While the menu was vast and the offering appetizing, everything was way over priced. Made to order soufflés for dessert are a nice touch.
Restaurant was very lovely for our 1st year wedding anniversary. We were seated apart from the crowd for the 1st hour or so (for a more romantic feel) but then we’re asked to move due to a large party that had arrived. We didn’t mind and the manager offered to pay for the wine and dessert. Our waiter was wonderful and food was delicious! I have celiac disease and there were plenty of delicious gluten free options for me :) overall great experience
Excellent service, wonderful French food. We could not have had a better meal, and experience. Venison, rabbit and lamb all were impeccable. Soufflé was excellent. Lovely cheese selection.
To my complete amazement, La Chaumiere rarely (if ever) shows up on those lists put out by various local magazines featuring 50 or 100 “Best” restarants in the area. I’ve concluded that those lists are only interested in the new, the exotic, the trendy, the gimmicky and the strange. L.C. is none of those things. Rather, it is consistent, high quality, fair-priced authntic and delicious from the top to bottom of the menu. Discriminating locals love it, and don’t dive the slightest damn about the “lists”.
The chocolate soufflé is DEVINE, the Lamb Chops are out of this world!!
Excellent! Everything was superb! Exceeded our expectation. Thank you.
Nice old school decor, friendly and well organized service - so so food.
I had an excellent breast of duck and my friends had the beef Wellington- all excellent. The veal scallopinine was good . The Grand Marnier soufflé was strangely lacking in Grand Mariner flavor so was good but required more sauce. service was prompt and grea
