La Chaumiere was a great place to dine! My wife and I went there for our anniversary. She had Duck and I had Venison Medallions and everything was cooked just right! The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable!

I do not live in D.C. but every time I visit I make a point to go here to eat. The restaurant is among my favorites in the U.S.

I have all positive things to say, but if I HAD to put one negative it would be the music choice. Was on the 70's channel which didn't really match with the restaurant.
GREAT salmon stuffed pastry, tho! YUM!

No bar to sit at for a drink before. We got there early before our entire party was present and they would not sit us at the table and we couldn't sit at a bar to wait. It was expensive too.

La Chaumiere never disappoints. The food is excellent, particularly the baked oysters. THe ambiance is buzzing and you usually see people you know. My only complaint was the the waiter was covering too many tables. He's a real professional but was overstretched and it was hard to get his attention. As usual they are slow to take orders, but it's worth the wait.

Very nice venue for dinner for a Mother’s Day celebration. We were seated in the back of the restaurant which was relatively quiet though a little cramped. Our waiter seemed knowledgeable and was generally attentive, though we had to ask a number of times for water refills. I had the Dover Sole which was disappointingly dry and flavorless for what I thought was a hefty price ($42). My husband had the fish stew, which he said was good, but seemed to have a lot of vegetables added in as filler. The wine list was decent, and had a number of well-priced selections. We decided to treat ourselves and ordered both the Chocolate Soufflé as well as the Grand Marnier one. They were served with a custard sauce on the side, which was yummy, but we found both soufflés rather eggy and tough — not the light as air confection we had hoped for. All in a perfectly nice evening, though the food could definitely have been better.

We come to la chaumiere every time we visit dc from nyc. It always delivers; good quality food, in a great ambiance. The menu is diverse, well thought and executed. We will come again, for sure.

We were attracted to Chaumiere based on reviews we'd read. The menu was varied, service attentive, atmosphere like a classic French bistro. The only complaint I'd have was that my meal, which was one of their signature dishes, Dover sole with a butter/parsley sauce, was rather bland and highly priced for the quality of the fish and just a little serving of delicious mashed potatoes which accompanied it ($42). As a signature dish, I'd expected more flavor, and perhaps a more tender and flaky filet than the one I received, and a bit more generosity on the serving size of the veggies.

We were in town to visit our son and daughter for a special occasion. Unfortunately, in the middle of our dinner we got a phone call letting us know of a sad family event. Some of our party had to leave. The management and our waiter could not have been more understanding and gracious. Some of us stayed to finish what we could of our dinner. They were so nice to us, and much appreciated! It's a classy place, the food was wonderful.

I really liked this place. Great food, great wine, and great value for the neighborhood, Georgetown, where it is located.

I got the beef medallions which were perfectly prepared with a bordelaise sauce that was amazing and elevated the dish from good to great. My server was excellent and suggested a wonderful Boudreaux that paired well with the dish.

My girlfriend got the veal scalopine and our server paired it nicely with a Pinot Noir. She liked her dish too.

We’ll definitely be back and probably as part of a party of four.

The four top tables were more spaced out than our two top. One piece of constructive feedback for the restaraunt, it would be to give that particular two top table where we were sat a little more space. We felt a little cramped.

La Chaumiere is a family favorite. We have been coming here for years. We love the staff. They seem to make every visit special and we are always treated well. This restaurant is the place to go for perfectly executed French cuisine. Before dining at La Chaumiere years ago, I did not know food could taste this good. I did not know that I liked sweetbreads or veal kidneys until I tried them here. The chef is extremely talented. If you come here for dinner, save room for the delicious chocolate mousse!

Georgetown Classic
For more than 20 years La Chaumierie has been a Georgetown/DC classic.
Serving French food in both classical and modern formats the restaurant is as true gem.
Nowhere in Washington will you find more knowledgeable, accommodating and efficient servers. The restaurant is a both a perfect special occasion and regular dining spot.
A must visit.

One of my favorite French restaurants is this Georgetown gem. We have been here numerous times when visiting D.C. La Chaumiere has many classic items on the menu. We started with a glass of champagne. Our first course items were onion soup which had lots of yummy cheese, and escargots which had lots of butter & garlic, of course! We both ordered the same main course, Cassoulet, because we both love it and they make it well. Cassoulet is a 3-meat casserole dish which is usually duck, lamb, and sausage. There are white beans and plenty of garlic & herbs in a tomato base. I Love it! And a glass of St Emilion, a dry French red wine, complimented the meal. They do make a delicious chocolate soufflé for dessert, but we were pleasantly stuffed. We ended our delightful meal with espresso. Looking forward to our return visit!

La Chaumiere provides a reliably excellent, traditional French dining experience. It has a very comfortable atmosphere and is usually packed with Georgetown regulars. The service is professional, the food is well prepared and presented, and the wine list is well chosen and good value. If traffic and parking were not so difficult, we would be regulars, too!
