We come to Georgetown every Thanksgiving for family get together. Dinner at Le Chaumiere has become a tradition. Food and service wonderful and noise level wonderful for conversation. For us this is a special restaurant. We will return again Thanksgiving week 2018.

La Chaumiere is the best french restaurant in the District of Columbia. Great food, wonderful atmosphere, and top notch wine list.

We had just been to Paris and had enjoyed a great deal of delicious food there, and so for a special occasion we decided to try La Chaumiere for fun. The menu was extensive and nicely seasonal. We enjoyed the escargot and some salad, and our mains (duck and sole) were simply fantastic. We ended with the chocolate souffle, also very good. The wine list is impressive and varied with many French selections. Highly recommended.

Another terrific evening marking a friend's birthday at La Chaumiere. She raved about the escargot and the mussels, and I again adored they trout almondine. The gentleman both gave high marks to their beef tenderloin medallions. The tables are very close, but cheery service and charming setting make it tolerable. And I recommend pre-ordering the yummy apple tart drizzled with caramel!

We had this recommended by a friend as an excellent place for French cuisine. Perfect for an anniversary dinner. Authentic in every way. We were told to order the chocolate souffle up front .....wonderful.

Went on a Friday night for my sister's birthday. Food was absolutely incredible and our service was fantastic. The waiter had great recommendations and did not bat an eye when we needed "several" more minutes to decide. It was cold outside and there is an open fireplace in the middle of the restaurant, so it felt cozy but not cramped.

This is a nice place where you should dress up a bit -- not a suit per se, but definitely not a t-shirt.

The wait staff was legitimately professional and French. The food was fantastic, seafood stew is a winner. The dessert was the highlight. Recommend for small group and/or date night.

There been such great innovation in the last 50 years in French cuisine in America. ZIn all this noise La Chaumiere has maintained as the only true classic French restaurant in Washington DC. The sauces, the dishes, the wine list( Wine Spectator awards since 1978) all are as well done as anywhere in the world. If you want to find out what sparked Julia Childs to inspire the very beginning of a food revolution that has transformed America and food you should go back to the basics. Every meal is a marvelous experience!

The food was excellent. The hostess asked about our plans for the evening and then assured us that we would make our show time which we did vey comfortably. The wait staff was attentive without being obtrusive. My only "complaint" was that we arrived a few minutes early and were not admitted even though there was a light rain. Being allowed to enter would have been appreciated.

A gem in Georgetown. I passed La Chaumiere many times. Saturday evening I made the call and was treated to a truly splendid meal. I started with pumpkin soup that was seasoned to perfection and just the right temperature and texture. My date had the escargot. I also had a green salad that was splendidly dressed, crisp and fresh. My entrée was venison medallions served with whipped white and sweet potatoes. The venison was sensational and cooked in a wine sauce that brought out the true taste of the meal. My date enjoyed the snapper, cooked to perfection. I wanted a bottle of Claret wine but the waiter recommended an exquisite red wine that complimented the meal. Espresso and wishing I had saved room for dessert. There will be a next time in the immediate future to re-visit this top shelf restaurant.

Great french restaurant. Whenever we are in Georgetown we eat here. For appetizers we had the pike quenelle and baked oysters, both delicious. For entrees we enjoyed the lamb chops and the special of short ribs in cabernet sauce. The chocolate soufflé is definitely a great choice for dessert.

Recently had dinner at La Chaumiere before catching a show at the Kennedy Center. The food was amazing (perfectly prepared rack of lamb), and it was a very pleasant atmosphere. Would definitely stop in again next time we're in DC.

We have been dining at Chaumiere for over 25 years. Whenever we are in DC we make reservations. The service is outstanding, the space just like dining in a small restaurant in Paris, and the food is excellent. The Dover Sole ranks in the top three I have enjoyed in the US, the U.K, and France. It is worth a trip! And the soufflés are amazingly good. Great, affordable wines.

The interior decor has the look and feel of a rustic thatched-roof cottage which matches the classic country French cooking. Very well prepared traditional selection of starters, mains and sides as well as Grand Marnier or chocolate souffle or home-made apple tart for dessert. Reservations are a must as every table was filled when we arrived on a Saturday evening, so book ahead to avoid being disappointed. Moderate noise level; enough buzz in the room to make it feel lively, but the volume is low enough for easy conversation.

LaChaumiere always satisfies with its classic French provincial cuisine. Ambiance is is fine--altho the chairs are too narrow: edges tend to cut into your legs. Doesn't try to be trendy , which is fine by me. Service is excellent: alert, but not intrusive. Interesting to watch the (upscale) clientele. I always come here when I'm in Washington.
