The best restaurant in Dc and our favorite.
Very good fare & professional service
The atmosphere, food and service was superb. A truly enjoyable experience
Had to send dishes back. Ordered M-R came out WWD. Sauces were runny and the only notable dish was the creme brulee.
I know I’m contradicting dozens of very positive reviews but my experience this past weekend was pretty bad. Maybe Saturday nights are to be avoided? The food is okay. Not the best but far from the worst. But the service and attitude were unacceptable. After telling the server how I wanted the table arranged for a party of three, I returned from the ladies room to find I had been overruled by the maitre d’. Seems my optimum arrangement might get too close to the table behind. Okay. So maybe move the table behind a few inches? Then server took food and drink orders and brought cocktails within a few minutes. Okay. The problem is our appetizers arrived within two more minutes and after finishing them we got entrees within a couple more minutes. At that point we asked the server why we were being rushed. He denied we were being rushed but...we were, whether it was deliberate or coincidence. So I won’t return. I live in DC and thought it would be fun to return to La Chaumiere. But I was wrong.
I always enjoy it there and will be returning soon. The owner is also the host and he was fun to talk to while we waited for our table. The food is amazing and the co-owner/chef does an wonderful job.
First time visiting La Chaumiere and I was very satisfied with the outstanding hospitality and incredible food. My date and I each tried a seafood dish (salmon and trout) which were both superbly prepared with a great presentation on each plate. For dessert, we had the apple tart which is perhaps one of the best I’ve had! Would highly recommend this restaurant, as it has earned and deserves each and every one of the 5 stars in this review. Would be happy to return in the future!
Food was good - classic French and great location. Not as quiet as expected. Service was ok. Entrees weren't hot unfortunately.
Classic French cuisine and reasonably priced. Wine selections were also at reasonable price points.
What a wonderful, cozy place. Service was excellent - the waiters were friendly without being intrusive and the food was excellent. We'll be back.
We were a group of five, seated upstairs, and had an absolutely delightful time. The food was excellent, the wine perfect (we picked it ourselves, but it was still really good and there were plenty of choices), the staff attentive and knowledgeable. We did have to compete with a party of 18 that arrived about 45 minutes after we did, but we ended up making friends with them. It didn't impact our service at all.
Food is always delicious. The staff is very friendly and professional. The lovely atmosphere makes
La Chaumiere a favorite dining experience.
Lovely setting for classic French cuisine!
Simple wonderful evening - - - service fast, food exceptional. Apple tart for dessert was out of this world!
The food was even better than I expected.
As always, the food was superb and the service outstanding.
Best French Bistro in DC area
La Chaumiere is an absolute jewel. The food is wonderful, the service is great, and the ambiance is perfect for whatever occasion one has in mind. In the winter, the fireplace is definitely a major plus!
Great food. Great staff. A bit too loud
Friday night. Kitchen was overwhelmed and had trouble getting food out. When it did the food was fine. The long waits to order and get food was different from previous trips to this restaurant.
Service staff were on edge and rude. Seems like a reservation does not matter here, as we were made to wait when we arrived. Was sat in the front room which was awkward, and service was difficult. We ended up leaving because we were uncomfortable I’m sure the food is good, but the service is really horrid.
La Chaumiere is a timeless classic French bistro. It is our go to restaurant in DC for steak frites and a good bottle.
Exceptionally pleasant lunch experience yesterday. Superb service, from start to finish. Wonderful table in the heart of the restaurant, next to a very welcome fireplace. Everything we ordered was excellent. Carrot soup was a standout, as was the shad roe. I haven't had shad roe so perfectly cooked and presented in years. And for anyone looking for a quiet restaurant where you can actually hear what your companion is saying, this is a very good choice.
Wonderful. The best restaurant in DC!
Excellent food and service. Good ambiance and discreet service.
The food and service were great!
Food and service was superb. Noise level was high. We had a hard time hearing conversations
Food and general ambiance was good ... exceptional in some cases. Service was average and tightly packed tables contributed to noisy climate which detracted from any really sense of coziness.
The food was amazing, with great service... Very intiamte, plan on returning
This was the best food we have ever eaten. Fantastic from beginning to end. We received excellent service and enjoyed every aspect of the experience.
Disappointed that I made reservations during the first week of January for Valentine’s Day, only to be sat in the secluded room to the side with zero ambience. The ambience is what drives the concept of La Chaumiere.
Food was still good.
