Everything was wonderful - the food, the service, and the ambiance, we enjoyed the experience.
La Chaumiere is wonderfull! We had lobster bisque to start -- very good and not salty.
I had the sea scallops on a bed of fresh tomatoes and garlic -- yummy!!!! just the right amount of garlic. My husband had the veal -- he loved it. We will definitely come back. We went on a Saturday evening -- very busy but the service is low key but excellent.
Sad to note the departure of La Chaumier's long-time hostess, who's replacement is utterly lacking in grace and warmth. I wouldn't say we are regulars, but we have dined here once or twice a year for the past 10—15 years. In all that time we've never had the pleasure, until now, of sitting against the bar counter. Not recommended.
We went to La Chaumiere 20 years ago and we enjoyed it so much that before coming back to Washington we searched whether the restaurant existed. We saw some not favorable comments but decided to go. Excellent decision. Food and service outstanding and the place keeps its character and charm.
Best bistro. Don’t know why we don’t come more often. Only quenelles in DC; great liver ; great sweetbreads.bring your own wine. Super place.
Never disappoints .. we love the food and the service !
A good restaurant for French dining. The atmosphere is warm and reminiscent of a cottage inn. Excellent service.
We were in want of French cooking and La Chaumiere filled the role perfectly. We enjoyed each bit and would only note that the dinner plates are large portions, while the appetizers and dessert plates were smaller (more in line with our expectations).
I had some expectation after reading all these reviews but it was just meh specially price wise.. The waiter was nice at first when there were not many people but when there were more people, he just kinda rushed to do everything. We ordered chocolate soufflé which tasted like something, he poked the spoon to put some syrup in it and it was just so insincere...Food was good enough but I wouldn’t pay that much for that, frankly speaking. It was just good to try somewhere new but I don’t think I will go back there again.
Tiny quaint place with good service
We have been coming to La Chaumiere for many years, and this marriage anniversary meal was simply par excellence! The briny oysters, sole meunière, Sancerre, and chocolate soufflé were prepared and served to perfection. The service was helpful and attentive, without “hovering. And our meal was a peaceful and joyous reminiscence of our memories and journey together. Thank you all for your effort to make this happen.
Perfect old-world French food. The chocolate souffle was fantastic.
The finest French restaurant in DC. It’s the kind of restaurant you wish you could find in Paris. Charming, great food, and flawless service.
Our favorite classic French Bistro in DC.
A triumph, as always. Most favorite restaurant in all of the DC Metro area.
La Chaumiere had been on my bucket list for twenty years. That I waited that long to enjoy a perfect French meal is a near travesty. When you're ready for the best, don't hesitate to make a reservation at this gem.
On a cold and rainy fall evening, I can’t think of a more comfortable place to spend an evening. Warm, cozy, country French in every possible way. Oh, and the rack of lamb was mind blowing good. My wife raved about the halibut special. I can’t say because she wasn’t sharing. :-)
Great food with great service and very knowledgeable wait staff. Started with the cheese board which was the die for. Had the salmon for dinner and ended with the apple tart. Great experience and left very satisfied
Great food and experience.
Very nice overall but waiter told us they had no way to process the Open Table voucher I showed him.
This is our #1 favorite restaurant in all of DC and has been for years. They never disappoint - superb food and service in a “country French” atmosphere. Don’t miss the tarte aux pommels for dessert. That’s worth the trip all by itself.
never disappoints///excellent food an dservice.. real neighborhood gem...
Authentic French atmosphere and food. Exceptional service. Highly recommend.
The extensive menu comprises many French classics and the food is very good and reasonably priced. That never changes. Service can be a bit slow and forgetful at times. It can also get very noisy at peak hours. But overall a rewarding experience.
Not impressed. Felt like a factory churning out mediocre food. The waiter rushed us the entire dinner, did not give any meaningful recommendations, and was not friendly. For the price and the michelin rating, this was nowhere near worth it. Glad I tried it so that I don't go back there again.
Definitely an older clientele. The food we tried ranged from gooey comfort food (heavy, rich sauces) to mediocre. Food tasted like it had sat under a heat lamp for a long time before I saw it. Service was very slow at times. The souffles, which I understood to be a house specialty, were terrible (and we got one of each flavor). Almost flavorless and definitely not worth dessert calories.
Excellent service, incredible French food with several unique wine selections. The ambiance is warm and inviting. We look forward to dining here again!
Excellent food, service and vibe
Lovely, intimate restaurant. Great service. Food was spectacular- classic country French. Onion soup and steak au poivre were fabulous and the shrimp and scallops special was luscious and delicious. Also, Nancy Pelosi walked by us to a table nearby!! Bon appetit!
Food was excellent, but service was slow paced, even at lunch with the restaurant not full.
The staff was awesome and extremely attentive to our needs! Food was average, I ordered the pheasant special and it was boring, my wife ordered steak au poive also just average but cooked perfect.
I love the food at La Chaumiere and this time you did not disappoint. The restaurant can be a bit crowded at times, but unless you are planning a building addition, I realize there is little to do about that.
Thanks for a great dinner.
Wonderful French restaurant in the heart of Georgetown. Small, cozy setting with a décor that makes you feel like you could be in a small restaurant in Paris. Waiters are French and have an exceptional understanding of the menu, food preparation, and their extensive wine list. A little crowded and a little noisy, but the food and service is superb! Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and experience.
Excellent meal and surprisingly reasonable price for bottle of French wine
Lovely French restaurant in Georgetown, classic dishes made in the classic way. Staff was excellent.
Quiet French Country. Elegantly comfortable. Friendly observant courteous staff. Knock your socks off food. No frills Authentic from start to finish.
Great food and a nice atmosphere. We went on a Saturday night and it was crowded and a bit loud but still excellent. Would certainly go again
Another merry celebration, this time three couples marking a birthday, and everyone enjoying great food and charming atmosphere.
Fantastic french food with generous portions and great ambiance
